My S2K eats timing chain tensioners.......

Hey guys. Well after the timing chain rattle appeared at 55k I replaced it with a new one. Now at 67k the noise is back again. I have tracked the car twice, but otherwise I service her every 5k.

Has anybody else been through a few chains? They are $220.00 a pop, and it seems like they just don't like high RPM???

    James.

Could be the high RPM during trackday. Honda tensioners are weak. For the price you are paying, why not go Toda timing chain tensioner?

when my chain tensioner was replaced under warranty

they changed a few items. not just the tensioner

one of the things from memory was the timing chain guide. the noise is the chain hitting the guides and a new guide should keep the chain in place a bit better

perhaps look into having that replaced also. but it could be expensive so it may be cheaper to just keep replacing the tensioner every 15km or so

the dealership told me that had i done the job privately with them and not under warranty, the whole thing would've been close to $3k

Hmm, I don't see a Toda tensioner listed for F20C... Only K20A. What's the part number of your Honda OEM tensioner?

If it is 14510-PRB-A01, then the Toda one will work.

I think it's 14510 PCX 005 so no good on the Toda K20 I guess. Has anybody heard of a better tensioner for the F20C? I am happy to pay. Just don't want to keep replacing the damn thing!
