Need some Bass on sony speakers
I have an aftermarket sony headunit, 3-way sony speakers and 6x9, which came with the car when i bought it. there was also an amp and sub but i removed them.
my problem is, there is no bass or very little that its not noticable even when I put the bass up to max on the headunit. Iv searched and they all seem to lead to getting a sub and amp or spending hundreds which i would prefer not to.
Im not after sub quality bass just about the same as newer cars like the FD civic has. I wanna get some info/opinions/experiences before spending on anything.
In terms of budget the most cost effective the better.
Thanks

so you took the amp out, therefore your speakers are now not amped?
-
the amp and sub was originally connected using the stock oem honda cd player, I took the amp, sub, cables out and replaced the stock HU with an aftermarket sony.
I left the 3 way speakers and 6x9.
Im unsure exactly where the problem is as the bass is barely noticable, i just want the amount of bass the newer stock cars come with, as currently a friends late model barina has better bass.

just hook up a sub not that hard
-
Maybe the speakers should be amp powered? maybe the HU is designed for the amp?
-
i took out the sub and amp cuz i didnt want to run it or need that much bass, plus i dont have a false floor in the boot so a sub is out of the question.
what I want to know is:
Is the sony 3way speakers and/or 6x9 the problem ?
OR
The headunit problem?
OR
will just running an amp give it some bass? from memory when i took out the sub and just left the amp powering the 6x9 there wasnt much bass either, so wrong amp problem?
-
speakers running off a head unit, wont sound as good as ones running off an amp.
they wont be producing as much power.
if you want some bass, i would amp the speakers.
dont put the sub in..
more than likely, its both the head unit and speakers.
for a really nice, clear sounding system, you need speakers amplified.

if you had the 6x9's amplified and they werent playing much bass, i would try tuning the amp.
-
were those speakers there from the start

The stock FD audio system is the level of quality im aiming for, they seem to sound great without an external amp. do you know the specs of the system?
hmm I was thinking the HU might be the problem but want to be sure before I waste money. dont have the model no. atm, it was the cheap mp3 one with aux jb-hifi was selling
