Alright guys, had the car up on jacks tightened up the front left shock, seems better, but while on the jacks noticed another problem which ill get fixed.
When I spin (not steer) the wheel back and fourth just a couple millimeters, i get a clicking sound, which isnt there on the other front wheel. I'm guessing this is the wheel bearing issue, so I'll get that checked out by a proper mechanic later. I'm glad I've at least spotted this now, having read some of the stories people have regarding failed wheel bearings.
Access to the steering rack boots is a bit harder so I probably wont attempt to do it myself just yet.

if you have a whining sound while u're driving, then that will be the wheel bearing for sure, if you spin the wheel, and there is a clicking sound just when u started spinning it. It can be your driveshaft, there are gears or bearings in the outer driveshaft. u might need a driveshaft rebuild prolly.
but yeah, get it checked as well.
