OK, so heres what Saturday did to me..

First up I went over to Peters to see the Blue Flash! Its such an awesome car, sounds great, and was lots of fun shooting up the road (I am the first Ozhonda passenger!)

Peter was fantastic, he helped me out with an auto box he was pulling from one of his project ED's, and I had a twin-gearbox DA9 for a while, reminded me of my Alfa GTV as they had the rear mounted gearbox

So, after getting home and unloading, it was around 4pm and time to start work

As a comparison, here are the two boxes, the EG is the one on the left, I did some measuring, its around 25mm longer (engine to end) and 50mm wider Firewall to front of car) so its no wonder I had issues, its amazing what a small amount of length can do

Finally after a couple of hours stuffing round, the engine is in

Then it was just a bit of mucking around to get the mounts lining up, and now the engine and box are back in and all happy to have 4 mounts again

Around 8pm, cold as hell outside and everything is in, tomorrow I have to just put the axels back in, and the gear selector cable, and its WIRING HELL time

Does anyone have a picture of the spacers I assume are under the injector rail?

    Cheers

    The Auto Box

Hey Chris, I couldn't have done what you did! Home from my place and got it all in same day. Excellent work. That's dedication.

I was a bit stiff and sore after yesterday's engine pull but it had to be done sooner or later. Your need of an auto box kick-started my next project!

    D15B4 out of the ED6:

Torque converter. Never seen one of these on an Honda before.

I removed the original bonnet and replaced it with the one I got off Acclude. First step.

OOhhh now I got an empty engine bay to play with:

Good luck Chris and if you need help with the wiring let me know. I got plenty of wiring diagrams now.

[I'll transfer these photos to my new build thread soon along with some other stuff I found on the little Civic]

    Honda S24A Gearbox

My research shows some info on this box Chris:

    Description:
    4 Speed Automatic Transmission, FWD

    Fits:
    1997 Honda Del Sol
    1996 Honda Del Sol
    1995 Honda Del Sol
    1994 Honda Del Sol
    1993 Honda Del Sol

    Part Number: M24A
    TAG ID: M24A, S24A
    Speed: 4 Speed Automatic Transmission
    Drive: FWD

The S24A designation means it was manufactured in Honda's Suzuka plant (as opposed to an S20/M24A which would have been built in Hamamatsu.

    Ratios are

    1st: 2.6
    2nd: 1.393
    3rd: .975
    4th: .772

    final: 4.333

Very confusing as I also found the S24A fitted B Series engines like these photos I found in NZ:

Not much else on GOOGLE though.

    Hey all,

First off I must say thanks again to Peter, info like the above on the gearbox is invaluable, when I saw the B16A connected to one I thought "hhmmm, wifes EG......" but I know she would rather get a newer Civic than have me stuff round with hers hahaha

Anyone need an Auto box???? fits in EG's lol

Well, today I put the driveshafts back in, and the headers and exhaust. Got under the car and connected the gear selector cable, and the bottom torque converter cover plate. Then it was stuff around time to put the alternator, powersteer pump and aircon back in, luckily I was able to do the swap without disconnecting the aircon, so its still gassed and ready to go. Got new fanbelts from Supercheap, but I have an issue with the power steer pump, the pully is v-belt, and my crank pulley is ribbed-belt (grooved?)so now have to see if I can swap the PS wheel, as I dont want to do the crank-pulley.

I need the spacers for the injector rail, so if anyone has a set, PM me, same goes for an ECU to engine bay loom for an EG (Auto if thats critical)

Put the bonnet back on to stop the rain getting in, as only the engine bay is under the carport, but maybe tomorrow night I can drop the car back to the ground as I have now finished everything mechanical that needs to be done, I only have to mount an ext fuel pump, filter, and then start WIRING HELL

I was a bit lazy with this swap as I didn't take the radiator out, but next time I will pull the car apart more, I saw that made things much easier when Peter was doing it.

Hope to make a big start on the wiring later in the week, but It won't be as pretty as Peters end product, I just want mine running ASAP, then the DA has to be sold.

    Cheers

    Chris

    No need Chris.

Go to Auto One at Seven Hills Shopping Plaza and get them to order you in a BOSCH Ribbed V-belt. They are about the only people in western Sydney willing (or able) to order this from BOSCH. See post #278 for info.

This belt (3PK790) has a V profile but with the required grooves in it to match up both ends. Saves you swapping things out. Just check that the length is the same as yours - the one I got you have to extend the power steering arm out to its full length for it to be tight but it does work.

Thanks Peter, will have a look for that belt, could be easier than canging the pulley..

I have a list of little bits and pieces I need, will go to PnP and have a look this week, need a DA9 throttle cable, the original has to be bent to much to fit, and a wiring loom from ECU to injector loom plugs, injector rail spacers, that kind of stuff, but at least mechanically it's all back together.

That place we know is cutting up an EF9 in a few weeks, B16A halfcut!!! should ask them to look for other fun bits

    Cheers

Yeah, I think so, but thats the idea right, we all help each other and Honda becomes the dominant car manufacturer worldwide

I just cant wait to finish so I have a fun little run-around before I get my next car, and once I move house next year one of these will be my next build project

Must prepare wife with lots of wine before this aquisition lol
