vtec not kicking in, in B16a in EG

i know i know.. befor you guys start saying, i will save you guys the hassle of saying "use the search button" cus i already have.

iv checked the oil, check and cleaned connectors to the Vtec solenoid, car sits on perfect operating temp.

i was going to do the self ecu diagnostic, but i cant find the blue connector to put the paper clip into...

what other things can i look at..

i was actually thinking of removing the Vtec solenoid and seeing if its dirty in there but not sure if that could possibly be the problem.

like i said iv searched this forum, but if ive missed it, and you know exactly where is the thread is for my problem, can you be so kind to paste the link...

    thanks HHHEEEAAPPPSS in advance

run a wire from the vtec solenoid plug thru the back of your bonnet & in thru the drivers window.
hook up a small 12v globe like 5W or similar to the wire,
ground the other side of the globe,
go for a drive & see if the globe lights up when u are supposed to hit vtec

do a continuity check on the vtec solenoid wire back to pin A4 at the ecu.

since the wire was added to do the swap, its highly likely its broken/bad joint/etc.

what engine harness was used for the swap?

i actually just tried to sus that out, but wasnt sure which wire was the Vtec wire into the computer. can you please tell me which ones the "A4" pin

what i was going to do is put a new wire driect from the solinoid to the comp so i know 100% its got full contact. that way iv narrowed it down to a fulty comp

    thanks

engine light has recently stopped working or has never worked since swap?

assuming u are still obd1,hold the ecu so u are looking at the wires going into plugs & the biggest plug(26pin) is on the left.
A4 is the 2nd pin from the bottom left on the 26pin plug.

before u go tossing the ecu, theres other inputs u should check first, but check this output first.

also, touch a ground connection to pin A13(7th from top left 26pin plug) with ignition turned on & see if engine light comes on.

    ahhhh i get ya..
i think the guy that wired it up, did it wrong.
what is the 1st pin for "a1" i think, cus it looks like he wired the solinoid to that :S
