our cars are capped at 180 at the factory? I didn't know this. All I know is the last marking on the speedo is 190, and thats where VTEC kicks in on 6th gear. My needle kept going, all the way till it was hovering over the odometer screen. I figure that to be about 220kmph.

Maybe the previous owner got that chip you guys mentioned??

The damn dyno played up and they also measured in hp.

I got 164.5hp (Cai + catback) in 4th (speed limiter kicked in using 5th) which converted to around 123kw.

As a comparison, a Toda 2.2 stroked DC5R pulled around 184hp, a CL9 with ecu, Gruppe M, full exhaust pulled 167hp but with a lot less in the mid range than me.

We were overlapping our graphs and he only beat me because my car was running rich over 7000rpm.

Yes. All Japanese cars by law are limited to 180km/h. Unless you of course have an R35 and are on a racetrack in japan

One other thing I'm curious about, is why are the cars Dynoing so low?

Stock, these cars should make ~160KW at the crank, if the literature is to be believed. FWD cars should only lose about 10-15% of their power through drivetrain losses, so we should be seeing stock dyno runs at about 136-144KW at the wheels, but we don't.

As Philip posted above, he's getting 123KW WITH mods, which is roughly 23% drivetrain loss (performing the calculation using the STOCK quoted power for our cars). That kind of drivetrain loss might be expected from a 4WD but I don't understand why its so high for us, unless our cars never made the power in the first place. Either that or the tires used arent in the best condition and can't put the power down, but that seems unlikely.

Can anyone explain this to me? It's something I noticed and it's kind of bugging me.

I think firstly this particular dyno reads low.

Also Japanese manufacturers dyno their engine without accessories so they would usually read higher.

I am not too concerned with this number itself. I am more concerned with how my car compares with the other K engined cars that ran today. Pity there wasn't another Ep3 there today...

As a rule of thumb, its usually about 25%. Which is quite spot on! I know a couple that have pulled about 120 stock.....DC5R's are usually 105-110 (147kw) and DC5S pull 110-115 (154kw).

One must remember that a chassis dyno is a tuning tool which is only really comparable on the day.

You only need to compare this with a car which has similar mods to you (on the day).

Heres an example.......Lets say Person A has pulled a PB run of 150kw and Person B has pulled PB run of 140kw.

Now say......on a particular dynoday Person A runs 142kw and is disappointed because his PB is 150. But Person only pulled 133kw.

Both cars have dynoed alot lower than their PBs and one would ask why? It is because it is a different day with different condition etc.....Ideally a chassi dyno should be enclosed in a controlled environment with temp and humidity control etc to keep the variations at bay. But due to the sheer cost, not many people do it!

Given that both cars have a reading loss which is similar, one would conclude that on this particular dynoday, the reading of the dyno has changed for many reasons, ie...recently serviced, software upgrade, environment etc.....

Also......modding NA cars is alot more difficult than people think. Its not about how much you spend, but how you do it!

I think Kaze got 123kw with catback as well!

That would only be measurable on the day. Who knows, you'll probably make 130 on the next dynoday

Dont let a dyno tell you whether you got gains! You know from driving the car yourself

Haha butt dyno is more accurate!

As I said I was happy with the result.

Apparently the intake temp was 31degrees when I ran....
