    Fitting rails to race seats

    Hi guys,

Just new to the honda scene, recently got a 1994 eg i think it is civic...

Just bought 2 autotechnica seats and want to no how to fit them to rails. The standard seats i have now are just one peice so cant use them and dont no what to do? could i use 4 door seat rails cos they would be 2 peice?

    Need some help, thanx!

If you're fitting to the stock rails, you might have to do a bit of chop work.
Alternatively, you could buy appropriate mounting brackets to fit.

The stock EG mounting brackets / Rails, are 2 pieces, by the way. But the bolt holes probably won't match the seats you bought.

basaically what hes saying is that the location of the rail mounting holes on the stock seats are different to the autotechnica seats. So, if you want to use your new seats, holes needs to be re-drilled on the stock rails. In addition, i dont know for eg civics but for ek, i think the rail needed to be cut/shaved so it sits flush with the base of the aftermarket seats, too much effort and u will regret it when u want to put your stock seats back in. You have two options, buy universal rails, or buy recaro rails (but make sure they fit your seat first)

When you modify the OEM rails, just make sure you don't cut away and weaken the seat belt buckle mount.

You will need 2 plates that connects the left and right rail. I'd get this cut out of stainless steel to an appropriate gauge - lighter, thinner, and strong

Use only high tensile bolts and stainless washers when bolting the items together...Its a seat, you don't want these parts breaking in the event of an accident.

technically, you will need an engineer to certify the safety of what you've fab'ed

^^ Absolutely. Especially if you have comprehensive insurance. Better yet, get someone who specialises in this type of fabrication to do it for you. For peace of mind!

Its not a matter of a "show car" finish, rather that its done properly because your seat is what supports you in an unfortunate event. You don't really want this to fail.

^^ Good description - only thing is, I wouldn't be using aluminium of that thickness there..its not strong enough. I've already bent steel thats thicker than that shown in the pic...Maybe I'm just heavy..beefcake! BeefCake! BEEFCAKE!!!
