congrats on the purchase buddy, looks like you got a good deal. looks clean.
practice makes perfect! probably take the beast for a spin in the local carpark if you're not too confident on the road!

 have fun!

day 2 of my practice, i can actually make the car go from a starting position now.but slight jump.
Friend later explained to me going up a hill when your engine doesnt have enough power does damage to your valves =s.. (car shaking while going up hill)

Raztaz. will something bad happen if i put HID's in the stock headlight housings?
cos i have no idea lol, you'd have to explain to me since im new to modding.

I noticed the clutch friction point is higher than most vehicles I have driven. I actually stalled it EPICLY out of the driveway when test driving. I've also found that the little Honda engine responds better to a bit of revving, especially on a slight hill situation. My dad likens it to his work vans. If I apply a slight amount of accelerator as I engage 1st, I have found that it will get going a lot smoother and easier. Everyone drives a manual their own way, but my best advice is that if all else fails, floor the clutch so the engine doesn't stall, you can always try again that way. Also the brake/hand-brake on a hill start, don't wanna damage that Mercedes behind you!
On another issue, the service record before last, 165000, says mine got its oil replaced, however I am beginning to believe that the guy got ripped by his mechanic, the oil looks to me, someone that watched dad open the bonnet of a commodore all his life, as if its a few years old... unless 8000k is about time for new oil? Car seems to run fine but its a concern I would like some peace of mind with, so I am gonna get a new oil filter and some good oil for her next time I am out with my father.

I need to find a bolt for the front bumper too, the two that are directly under the front, one is missing completely. It doesn't effect it but it annoys me all the same haha.

OH and I polished up the paint, hard yakka, but well worth it, the fading looks so much better, the only real noticeable bit is the top of the rear bumper. But it now has an even shininess to it, which in sunlight actually masks the fading quite well
also removed all but the deep marks in the paint, some panels look like new!
I am definitely getting a new stereo and wheels with my next pay, I can't stand the wheel-barrow wheels it has on it! I slid on a roundabout the other day!

EDIT: I replaced my headlight bulbs with Narva Blue/Arctic (can't remember) that my dad had spare in the garage, we use them in the commodore and they give off a satisfying amount of white light for me.

yeah i also learned how to engage first today.rev to 2000rpm, let go at the clutch choke point slowly, then revv it to 3000
i still need to practice, it feels like so much accuracy is needed while taking off!

regarding your oil change, sounds like it missed a service but that shouldnt be too bad.
usually you'd get the oil replaced every 5000Ks or every 6 months if you dont drive hard.
I guess if you drive like a granny then you can replace the oil at an even later stage.

Reading about engine oil for a year or two has given me quite some information, facts, myths and so on.
-Black engine oil is sometimes regarded to be perfectly fine, but people use it as a visual sign to change engine oil.
-Mixing different types of engine oil, should be fine if the velocity of the oil is similar. Never thick and thin oil together like 10w40 and 20w50. 5w40, 10w40, 15w40 is okay i think.
-Branded engine oil is usually overlooked, people think the more you pay the better it is, where that is usually the case, sometimes that isnt correct. Castrol Magnatech is the same as Repcos generic branded engine oil. Just different bottle (they get their oil from the same plant+source)

what type of polish did you use? i used to polish my previous car with a bottle of liquid turtle wax, makes it look real good, but when the rain comes, you get the biggest sad face because all your effort just washes away lol..
I found myself polishing every 2 weeks due to rain and having to wash the car cos dirt was sticking to the car. Then i gave up. sold the car, got a Honda! haha

Trusty turtle wax, but I ran out halfway, my dad had a backup, Kitten brand... so half of the car is done with Turtle Wax, half of the car is done with the Kitten version of it, I made sure I did whole panels though. The Kitten stuff was a lot harder to work with. It rained today and didn't seem to change my hard work but I can see myself re-doing it lightly every few months, the first time was hardcore lol, I did 3 coats on the faded bits from my dads advice, but maybe he just wanted to watch me working my arse off. haha.
Guessing the previous owner drove like a granny cause that's what they were! Last service he didn't do too much, I think it got to 170000 and he decided to get the roadworthy and sell it, so it missed that oil change. I will probably get Valvoline something or rather, know of a recommended oil type for our engines? My dad is a bit of a Valvoline fan.

EDIT: Looking at the picture of yours, I think mine may actually have lowering springs... or something, may be stuffed but it rides alright... I could swear its sitting lower than yours does... Will have to take a picture of the beast when I get some time.

thats a very nice car man. very clean and in good condition to start modding. 4.5k isnt that bad.. i picked mine up for 6.6k 6 months ago with 170k kms and 12months rego. heaps of people say im an idiot for paying that price, but it was so perfect inside/out, and black ek gli's are hard to find.
pm me if u need some parts, i have some lying around but cbf making a for sale thread, ive got a intake (short ram) with a generic pod, rear strut bar and a genuine type r gear knob.

goodluck with the car and treat it well
