    EK1 Manual crunching

I've had my EK1 GLi 5sp sedan for a fornight now and when you go for third gear either quickly, when its cold, or when its above 5000rpm, it crunches. Only for third. I haven't really had the chance to have a look at it properly yet, just driving around the problem at the moment, anybody got any suggestions?

I think 3rd gear crunching is a common honda problem among the models getting old.

    1. Learn to shift properly

    2. Warm your car up before you shift 'quickly' above 5000rpms.

    3. change your gearbox oil to something better

    4. Worn synchro's

    5. New Gearbox.

Thanks for 1/2, lets just skip those shall we...

I think the issue is a combo of 3/4, when I get some time first thing I'm going to do is new gearbox oil and see where it goes from there.

How many k's has the gearbox done?

Check your gearbox oil level first and flush it out then fill it up with Honda MTF

I saw the receipts on mine said Gearbox and clutch got reconditioned around 150,000kms by previous owner.

So you might be in for a big bill

Ive got an original clutch, and ive noticed that when i start it in the morning, the 1st couple of gearchanges are rough, it feels like slippage.

However, after those say 4 initial or so gear changes it is ok. Have u guys ever experienced this?

No detected slippage during normal driving. I live in a hilly area, so i know it aint slippin'. Still, i know that the clutch has probably less than 2 years left on it.

171,000kms with original clutch, i hope that it lasts a while longer. I like 2 slip it in 1st. (as im sure all b16a owners do.... you have to!)
