Just back to this for a sec. The reason insurance is cheaper is most insurance companies will insure the car for market value. So that means they'll only give you what the original car is worth. So in most cases it'll be only a few grand.
To get agreed value you either have to be with a really good insurance company (which will mean you need to be over 25), or you pay a bucketload in annual fees (where you'd probably pay the value of the car twice over before you get in an accident).
so they wouldnt cover for the value of the engine?

Not if it's insured for market value. Which places like Justcar will do. They tell you this when you get a quote.
Ask for agreed value and you'll have to show heaps of pictures of everything and have an assessor come out to take a look.
If it's someone like Shannons where you have to be over 25 and prove you're an enthusiast then they're a lot more lenient. You just explain to them what is done, what you'd like it insured for and they will work out the annual fee (providing all mods are legal and certified of course).
I got a quote through JustCar years ago and they wanted to insure my car for something like 3grand with a $600 excess. Asked for agreed value due to mods and after mountains of pictures and an assessor visit they wanted around $2k annually with a monster excess....
I'm with Shannons now. Agreed value, unlimited legal mods and much much cheaper.
well, technically the market value of an ek with a b18cr would be higher than the average value of a dead stock ek cxi, but i guess they wouldnt take this into account hay?
oh well, i need to save up before anything so we'll see what happens at the end of the year
market value is based on a stock car. Modifications are only included up to a certain value. Which is typically stuff all. Jump on www.redbook.com.au for a rough idea on market values. They really aren't very good.
Chau didn't even know you had a DC2R, I knew you had sold you Sedan to Mr Willz, And now you want to sell?? PM me pics of you car and selling price... Is there a for sale thread on here?
