Your mechanic must be very happy every time he sees you. The thud is normal and happens because the main shaft on the transmission is spinning with the engine, so when you push the clutch in the transmission has to stop when you engage first.

You coulda saved a packet and done this...http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthr...gear-for-s2000

    Haha nah dont think so.

To start with bout 4 weeks ago, the diff blew, and the pinion had a massive chunk missing from it (saw it myself). Couldn't move the car anywhere, so then bought the crown & pinion from honda and got a rebuild. Only after i had it rebuilt, i noticed that the thud noise was coming into play, but its possible that because ive paid a wealthy sum, i guess im but paranoid. Drive shafts had to be changed badly as well.

The diff didn't blow if they didn't change the centre?

It sounds like the CW/Pinion broke...in which case you could've just got a mazda/kia cw/pinion for less.

Your driveshafts being changed sounds like overkill. the CV Cups coulda just been swapped from left to right or driveshaft spacers put in...

Which other crown/pinions are interchangable with the S2000's?

Help on noise around the diff area pls

    Hi Guys,

I`ve been searching and reading other people's blogs but not 100% sure if anyone has the exact same problem as me. I`ve got a 99 s2k and I`ve recently started to hear teeth grinding noises in my rear left. The noise is constant and occurs even when I`m driving straight and not turning or braking. The noise amplifies at about 40kms onwards.

Initially, i thought it was the wheel bearings, bald tyres, or brakes scrapping (really sounds like this) but after peds suspensions looked at it and put it on a hoist running, they pointed out that the noise was coming from the diff. The prev owner changed the diff oil recently with Motul and I`m thinking could it be the different oil thats making the noise? The diff doesn't make the knocking noise but just the teeth grinding noise. Also the diff was serviced at the start of the yr and bearings changed by the prev owner's mechanic.

I would really appreciate any help here pls!
