205/35/16 doesnt exist or rare as far as i know. I wouldnt go any higher than 205/40 if you plan to lower it and stuff.

indeed 205/35/16s are rare, commodore spec imo. i'm running 205/40/16 but i'm not happy with it, i think 205/45/16 fills the guards the best.

I have 205/45/16's and it scrubs hard on 38+ offset. It was eating the tyres sidewall so i rolled the guards and raised the car to a 2 finger gap. Readjusting it again tomorrow.

does the offset affect scrubbing? or is it mostly radius and width?

offset is how far the hub is away from the centre of the car.

so if theres too much positive it can interfere with suspension as it pokes into the car, not enough and it could poke out the side too much.
but the wheel diameter shouldn't change much if u put on new rims because then it means u should get new tires that would make the cars overall wheel size the same, otherwise it affects the speedo.
mainly make sure the car isnt too low cos if it is then too little offset can cause them to poke into the mudguard or something.

hopefully someone else can help me out here im abit new to this too.
    but mainly its car height

how it affects the speedo depends on the wheel size and tyre size. it can be calculated via.

legally you can go up 2 sizes from stock, and 2 inch in width, as the cops look at the sticker inside your car.

also if anyone is after some 16x7 buddyclub p1 sfs with red stripe, +42 perfect fit for the jazz, give me a pm

Yes offset will determine how much closer or further it will sit from the guards. Height, rolling diameter and width play a part too.
