My guesstimate is that the CU2's seen with different tyres would probably have had tyres replaced locally..

YOu may be rite, they locally change tyres here, but why they change it? Or may be it comes from factory different tyres for different batch?

My understanding (and this comes from others in other threads) is that for the CU2, the base model wears Yoko Decibels (17's) ex factory whilst the Luxury and the Luxury Navi wear Michelin Premacy's (18's) ex factory.

Have a look at this headlight pic from netcarshow pics database of the newly updated Euro lux nav. You can clearly see DRL's are there, however this is probably a European Accord Euro where DRL's are mandatory. If we do not have them on our Euro lux nav's them we may be able to do a retofit of some type...?

I'd like to see the DRL's switched on though.

Maybe the UK version might get it since the DRL are now mandatory in Europe.

what's illegal is if you use the wrong tyre on your car, eg: using <98 load rating on the CU2 for 18".
i'm planning to get tyres from tirerack too, and I'm wondering if there are any extra taxes or import duties involved. The price of a set of tires should cost about A$650, well under the GST threshold. Are they any other taxes involved?

    thanks.

technically any personal import under AU$1000 (based on exchange rate they use, not what you pay) excluding shipping costs, is not subject to custom and gst. that's my interpretation of the info below:

    http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp

however, i've been buying things fr USA (tyres, wheels, high flow cat downpipe, h&r sway bars, etc..) and kept them under $1000 with the shipping just to make sure i don't pay extra 15% of customs & gst.

just a note, some tyres the savings can be up to 50% of local price yet some are only 0%-20% cheaper.

eg: continental sport contact 3 in 225 40 18, 92W, landed from tirerack is around US$1058 + $50 bank fees + $60-$80 fitting and balancing = au$1122. locally from Taleb / Tempe Tyres the same set would cost $1000-$1120 fitted and balanced. (i think they must be getting pricings from Conti Aust).

but local retail for Michelin PS2 is $540 from Jaxquickfit and best quote i got was $370 each / $1480 a set. I paid AU$998 for a set landed.

Does the PS2 > Conti Sports?

What about in comparisons to the HP?

How did you pay tiretrack with this bank wire thing?

The PS2 should be similar to Primacy HP, thread blocks and wall thickness are similar. but the PS2 does not come in 235 45 18.

i think you are looking at the Conti Sport Contact 2, $656 for a set right?

i had Sport Contact 2 in my previous CL9 and Mk6 Golf 118TSI, and was pretty happy with them. they were grippy in the wet. was a bit noisy when new but became quieter as they were worn in. ride comfort should be similar (only 1 layer of ply on the wall on the Conti SC2 and Michelins PS2 / Primacy HP, meaning softer sidewall).

I'm currently on Advan AD08 and it has steel insert on the wall, very sharp steering response, a bit noisy and ride is bumpy but i like it

also, being non directional it means more options when rotating them around.

with directional tyres once you get feathering effect / sharp edges on the threads they become noisy and hard to fix, eg: Kumho KU31. with non directional, just flip them around to smooth out the sharp edges
