noob - Tyres too wide for the wheels?

I just bougth the new Bridgestone Potenza RE002 - 235/45R17 tyres fitted to my Accord Euro with 7" wide wheels.
Didn't do much research before purchased the tyres.
What i read from the internet is 235 tyre is too wide for 7" wide wheel? The recommended wheel width for 235 tyre is 7.5 - 9" (i have asked the tyre shop, they said it's OK).
Should i change my tyre?

Original tyre is 225/45R17 which is more expensive than 235 tyre (aroudn $100 for 4x tyres)

The mods are gonna close your thread, cause your advertising parts. Just keep them for when you upgrade your rims?

Learned your lesson, do some actual research first. You should ask for a refund.

Either get wider rims or change the tyres for narrower ones.

This is what happens when you try to be cheap. I've Learnt this the hard way

Did you buy the tyres from the same place that fit them on the rim and then on your car. Did they select the tyres for you after viewing your rim/specs of your rim? If so, that is technically illegal to fit an incorrect size and there may be action you can take.

If you haven't had them fitted yet, just go back and exchange them. Any decent tire place should do it no worries.

I selected the tyres myself, can't totally blame them.
However, they said it's OK to fit.

Anyway, i have bought a new set of wheels (7.5" wide), so now problem solved.

Hah - I ran a set of 225/50 on stock 6.5" DC2R Rim's (15") -- Needless to say it wasn't a good combination... Remember, wider doesn't necessarily mean more traction (as the contact patch theoretically stays the same size, just varies in dimension for a given weight / tyre pressure)

... Usually wider is to change the contact patch and to lessen sidewall deflection so the tyre doesn't overheat...

I actually found that generally, the specified OEM tyre size wasn't far off the best tractive compromise... But guessing you did it simply for price?
