    Wiring troubles

Hey guys, I just purchased for myself a Pioneer AVH-P3350BT deck. Being a complete newbie to car electronics, I invested $100 on a wiring harness for the unit to the FD plugs. Everything connected nice and easy however when I turn the key the unit won't turn on. Connecting the stock HU again works fine though.

Can anyone please help me diagnose the problem?

Note: I have also used an antenna adapter for FD->pioneer and theres a wire poking out of it (other than the antenna male plug) which i think is for the power antenna. I can't find anywhere obvious to connect this wire. I also did not ground by screwing to a clean metal surface because I can't find any (apparently the harness takes care of this though)

    incorrect harness.

compare pin outs of new unit and oem unit.

Okay guys I tested the HU by connecting it directly to the battery and it indeed works. However when connecting it to the car through the harness it does not work. I think X3 on wrong harness (though everything fits perfectly..). I'm just worried I didn't ground it correctly.

my main worry comes from that second ground lead with the screwable end. Does this matter or will the other black lead take care of it? Btw there are 2 black leads there is also a control box connected to the harness for my steering wheel controls

You need to make sure there is a ground.

doesn't matter where it comes from, you need that negative to complete the power circuit. You also need to make sure the correct wires are going to the correct pin outs.

Sounds like you don't know what you're doing.

take it to someone who does.

    Lol..

Just ground that wire with the crimp at the end.

Ground it to a good grounding source.

That harness u got is that the one that came with the HU in the box?? Or did u buy dat from elsewhere?

Dw mates, it was just the first time I'd seen an extra ground coming out like that so I was confused. Got it all sorted though, turns out the harness was faulty and the seller replaced it for me. Everything works fine

The extra ground apparently is a 'just in case' measure.

    glad it's all sorted.

I doubt it was a faulty one. Probably sold you the wrong one and said it's faulty to save face.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I remember, the US model and the jdm(aus) model have different wiring.

They could have unknowingly sold you the US version, which could have explained your issue.
