There's a lot to be gained from calling a mechanic, googling, trying the OH search engine etc. But the best advice comes from this community. If I need to know something I try to search here but it's hard to find the exact answer or key words sometimes.
Old heads need to realize that they are valued to the point that a noob wants to turn to them first for the best anecdotal information. Don't turn these people away! OH is a resource for all and should be used preferentially to google IMO.
The very lightheartedness you speak of is what's at stake when people choose to disrespect one another.

Who's to say a 16-17yo kid wants to come on and learn about hondas or even just browse around.
As cracker said,people need to chill and get off their high horses.
You can guide people without outright rudeness and insulting and if it bugs you that much then take a hike and leave
