    ok then apologies for the misunderstanding so you are saying I could buy a JDM BLACK TOP B18C and whack a red rocker cover on it and call it a type R and no one would be the wiser....how do u tell the diff then..????????????????????????????????????????????

    I have a non type R B18 and it says 'B18C'

    you tell the diff by the intake manifold. lsd in the gearbox, rev limit
    snapping 2nd..

    the " black top japspec engine" has a snail looking type intake manifold. easily spotted out amongst the rest.

    Just check the engine number to see if it's genuine type R or an SIR.

    the non type r and type r have the exact same engine number as stated above

    type r engine should print PR3 on the head (on top of the headers near ps bracket)
    JDM B18C(SiR) should print p72 on it
    snapping 2nd..

    To help ID Type R Head/engine:

    The only sure fire way to determine if the head is actually an ITR head is the green paint behind the distributor, which is the paint they slab on there in the factory when they select the best looking ones to go out for machining, and the minor portwork on the intake ports, and larger intake valves.
