How many of you don't use the "I-vtec" manifold cover? Is there any downside to driving without it?

I was serious actually. Does the car need to be at operating temp for it to do so? It just doesnt sound like it crosses over in first with the gruppeM. In second I can hear the difference thats why I was asking.

The engine doesn't know or care what gear your in vtec will engage without fail at 5800rpm unless: our not on full throttle. Or your oil is very low.

Nah my oil was sweet as I just changed it. Its more than half way between the two dots. So your saying unless your in full throttle it wont engage?

(on the ep3) depending on load , throttle position and gear ivtec will engage a range of "amounts"...not just ON/OFF. It has varible timing too (thats the "i" in ivtec)

Interesting I didn't know that. Must have been thinking about the old vtec.

So as I was saying before is there any downside to taking the manifold cover off?

That makes sense, seeing as in first its incredibly difficult to go full throttle as there is too much wheel spin and hopping so compared to other gears the intake note is not prevalent.
