I believe newer civics have remote boot release, an extra key button on the fob.

If the civic is a little older then you don't need this extra button as this device is a "modulo counter"...that is it counts how many times you pressed the door open button within a small time span. If pressed twice with that short period the device outputs a pulse which is used to operate the boot release.
