    DC5R Gearbox and ratios

How strong/good is the DC5R gearbox?

And how are it's gear ratio's?

More specifically, top speeds in each gear AND most importantly, what rpm it drops back to if up shifted at 8000rpm

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Is type S same as Type R?

According to that, it falls back to 5150 rpm when upshifting to 2nd at 7900 rpm.

Is that accurate? I thought it would be best if it went up to VTEC zone again??

    hmmm, this is sad

Vtec is not everything the engine would still be good without it. Just adds top end to a lower down engine. COnsidering you only have rougly 2k revs to play with in vtec its not relaly possible unless you want a top speed of 120k and have to change gears every 2 secs.

A friends B16A Civic always went back into VTEC zone
I thought all manual VTEC honda's would be designed the same way

Does the K20A give the same kick as older VTEC's did or is it a smooth changeover?

Reading this thread brought to mind some discussion about changing the ratio of the 6th. In my opnion and other DC5R drivers, leave it the way it is (unless your making it a track car). Anyways SPETZ Honda has designed the Type R gearbox and ratios very respectably, I've been driving my R for a few months now and compared to Nissan cars (e.g. S15), the gearbox is beautiful. I only find the RX8 gearbox to be better.

The Vtec is a nice smooth changeover, the older ones just clicked in and you could really feel/hear it. Not so these days.
