Just a nice pic of facelifted EK9s.

Who knows what's under their bonnets.

Obviously it's taken in Japan.

Haha it wasn't obvious to me when I posted. They do look nice, as much as I would usually prefer white when it comes to car colours, I think that blue one looks so sweet with the white rims.

Looks so much nicer Mike:thumbsup: How do you go with gettin it up your driveway?

Surprisingly, the driveway hasn't been a problem. I just make sure to take it nice and slow. Some places are a bit scary, so I'm taking it easy. I've noticed some dips in the road can make it make a slight sound in the front, but I'm not sure if its the stuts compressing or slight scrapeage on the lip. *edit* - yes it was the lip, it has some new scrapeage on the bottom.

I've started playing around with the damper adjustment... making it firmer and firmer. It handles really well, everytime I drive it I get excited. Got a wheel alignment today and on the way home I came head to head with an EK4. We both wound it out, was awesome. I can take corners with so much speed now, it's given me new confidence.

It also gets more looks now, due to the tough stance. I'm lovin' it.

So what's next for the em1?

yea, it was lip scrapeage, I just checked it. I firmed the struts up to 50%, hopefully it should stop it from dipping and scraping.

What's next... jeez, I haven't thought about that. I'm just gonna save some cash up in the bank for now and think about that later.

The wheels are 16s.

17s are for riceboys IMO, but each to his own.

I'm not a big fan of my wheels, but I don't wanna fork out for new ones. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

found out what was scraping... it was the blood loose splash guard, phyew! I did manage to scrape a tiny bit a little tonight on a dip in the road in Red Hill. Just gotta be careful and learn which places are no go zones.

Mike that's fckuing nice man! I've noticed EM1's tend to be able to go very low on the front yet have some height at the rear.

With the damper settings, how far have you gone so far? And what do you think will be the optimal setting? Stiffer on the rear and softer up front or the other way round? And how does it feel when you get towards the stiffer settings? Do you find if it's very stiff you encounter more understeer (mostly due to shit Australian roads more than anything else)?

You and i have to get together soon, I like the sounds of a 'vtir night' lol, should be good. You got my number, text me when your free bro! :)

Ps that's almost exactly the sort of height i want my dc2 to drop to. Form with function. Who said you can't have both???

Mikecivic78
22-04-2011, 01:27 AM
I've been playing with my damper settings, I'm still working out what is the right balance. I'll let you know when I finally settle on a setting.

However, I imagine your coilovers will be different. As a general rule of thumb, should be firmer up front and softer at the rear, but don't quote me, I'm still learning.

I'm not getting understeer, it has great response/feel. Feels much less like a FWD, great tried and true Spring/shock combo.

Tomorrow I'm trying 75% firm front and 50% rear.

I used a fishing line an a hair dryer on my old car, that works quite easy or you can just pay a panel beater to remove it

So we caught up at Brett's. And snapped a bit of fishing line, the spoiler is not coming off any time soon! But the boys had a great time thanks Brett and Tim. You should have heard the stories mum got told over dinner when we got home!

Tim I think you should be scared mate. It's not gonna take too many mods before I can whip your car! We were pretty close I should think! The mighty Accord, complete with air conditioning! (But I do love your car, it's just so tight and well done).

Troy
03-05-2011, 10:59 AM
You'd probably win Mikey. But it's not the point. At the moment in my mind, Brett's Civic > Mikey's Euro. I just see how much work he's done to it, it's so nice and tight. Obviously if Brett wanted his car to be all about outright power then he would have done an engine swap long ago.

Actually I don't know, while you might have outright power (and therefore would probably win over the 1/4 mile), I'd like to see you against him on a track. The Civic is light, low, and handles extremely well (and I should know, I have ridden in it, sweeeeet).

Was a great afternoon, Troy i was very surprised with how your accord went if you did a few suspension mods an weight reduction it would be a hella fun car:), i was being cautious on that drive home cuz of cops an it being a public holiday.

Those traffic jams sucked on the way home:thumbdwn:

Troy
04-05-2011, 08:07 PM
Yes I was very late home, lucky the Mrs decided to cook up the dinner for me (it was my turn on dinner).

Some weight reduction, hhhmmm how about "uninstalling" the children and related peripherals I had!!!

Always pays to be cautious, I would love to give it a proper burn on a race track. It's just too dangerous on the open road, I am driving in and out daily for my work and there are always just so many people out there who should not be on the road. Not to mention dangerous cars as well.

Also tell me about that megarazin contraption you had hooked up to your battery. What is the theory behind it? Where did you get it from? Did you say it was $100?

Yeah i know way too many stupid drivers around the gold coast lol, Everyone is just in a rush...

It's a condenser the pivot mega raizin what it does is supply a stable voltage too all the electrics in the car, I was very impressed after a few days of driving, Improved the audio quality, has much better throttle response, has a smoother idle, an something me n beez noticed it had a deeper exhaust tone.

Introducing the latest and most advanced member in the RAIZIN family of products, our premium model "Mega-RAIZIN" or "Purple RAZIN", born into a lineup which since 2003 has won praise from the world over for its quality and proven performance enhancement. By increasing condenser capacity and through improve-ments made to circuitry, not only has voltage stability been enhanced, but our newly improved voltage meter means improved voltage supply which in turn means no loss in battery life or performance and the possibility of reaching 100% performance.

Pivot Mega Raizin VS-M Voltage Stabilizer

Probably nearly a year back it started off a Gold Coast Honda group which i've kind of put aside for a while due to business.

So i went to the work wear store today to get some new boots, whilst i was there i also got a price on some motorsport shirts. Guy basically said 30 per shirt. or discounts on multiple shirts.

I was just wondering who would be interested in a Mechanics shirt with some sort of logo for ~$30. To wear out and represent the group for oh cruises and meets but also for going to JDMST/other meets.

If theres some interest ill post up the shirts.

Troy
14-05-2011, 07:51 PM
Ah yeah not too bothered about that. My car isn't really that great for photoshoots right now. It's not running properly so if you have mechanic skillz come and fix it for me. It just keeps cutting out. My dad replaced the ignition module inside the distributor (apparently this is a common problem) but sadly it hasn't gone away...

Mad,psyched!

The 18th of June is the next practice day at Lakeside,it's a saturday.

Did Jeff in his black datsun catch and overtake bigtone?

Jeff's car is fast! High boost...but could he use it out there and take over the b18c7? :)

Mikecivic78

I didn't see him overtake, but the Datto looked fast. I have a couple of videos of the datto through hungry corner on my camera. I only posted 3 on Youtube, but I have about 10 vids stilll on my camera.

So how much for practice, do you know?

July 8th @ Lakeside looks like the best option. Lakeside is a difficult track, but that's what makes it so good. If you can go hard there, you can go hard anywhere. Full lakeside day sounds like the go, but hey, QR sounds good too!

We should post an event thread when we decide on the place and date.

Gahh.. For an extra $400 you can have a SET of SR3's.

SR3's are brilliant. Shit all over the later model (SR4) Recaro's. Plus, that seat looks like arse. Literally, dirty as fcuk.

Mikecivic78
31-05-2011, 09:29 PM
yea, it does look crappy. I think I'll pass.

Sr3s for 1000. Where can I find them? + rails would cost an extra 300 each = 1600 bucks. Maybe I might consider it.

Sr3s are pretty flat and unsupportive though... more style than substance IMO.

My main aim for the car is streeter and part-time weekend track day warrior. I'd be happy with just one seat. The bride seat looks dirty, but look at the bolsters, that would really keep me in my seat on the track twisties.

Vvvtec
31-05-2011, 09:33 PM
Sr4's are flat and unsupportive... If you think sr3's are bad, try the 4's... SUCH a step back from the previous design... Sr3 FTW.

Just keep an eye out Mike, I've seen sets in great condition go for just over a $1k.

Sounds awesome, but only prob with buying seats is interstate shipping for seats is expensive (they are so large) and used seats def have to be viewed personally. Might be even worth a cheap flight to view them perhaps.

I'm gonna se if I can source locally, but I'm not ready to commit to but right now anyways.

Yep went to a few different pubs there at the time. There was a local band from around that area... The Karpis Cronies. (http://www.mp3.com.au/TheKarpisCronies) Seems they are disbanded now. I used to follow them around and jammed a few times with them on stage. Man that was the good times. They would always come out to the Great Western Bar in Penrith on Wednesday nights, they had a jam night where you could rock up and play.

My best was singing and playing bass with the house band, "I Will Survive" by Cake. Damn I miss those days. $6 jugs!

Nice one mate! I'll come over and we'll swap cars so u can feel the new sussy on mine and I can try out ur new setup.

No new plans for the em1, apart from saving up for some good, used red recaros (they must be red). I'm in desperate need of more supportive seats, especially for when I hit the track.

Insurance is up for renewal in 30 days. Premium is up ($854 - WTF?) and value has gone down. They wanna give me a value of 7,500 for the EM1, can u believe that? I gotta weigh up my options. If my car is written off or stolen, I stand to lose some serious money. Dammit, I'm gonna get onto it now.

Ultra Racing's Fender bars will spread out the force of impact and strengthen that particular section, it will also prevent further damage and will offer stable handling. This is recommended for users with aftermarket shocks/coilovers. Cool cool sounds interesting Brett. You've got these now and noticed an improvement?

Just a quick question for you all. I may have found a cheap set of coilovers for my car. They are used but do not have any info on the mileage they have done already, I am assured they are in good condition and no leaks. What I am wondering is the fronts are Tein brand and the rears are KYB brand, like matched pairs to make the kit or something. Any particular reason why this would not be recommended? I should think it would be alright but want some opinions.

What else would I need for the car, I keep reading about control arm kits and stuff. Do I need these now or can I get them later? Do I need them at all?

For sway bars I have been looking around, my car already has front and rear lower sway bars (I'm guessing from standard) so thinking about saving for upper bars as well?

At the end of the day just looking to improve handling, if I can lower it some as well then that's a secondary benefit.

Thanks guys.

KYB what and TEIN what? Find out the name of the models. And then find the spring rates/damper settings. Do your research man to see if they can be matched well.

What do you mean control arm kits? You mean camber kit? It's only advisable if your dropping it more than 2".

As far as sway bars go. Find a thicker Rear sway bar. That'll improve ur handling performance the most as a start. Get upper bars later. Strut bar should be the 1st one for upper braces.

the more reinforcement the better

but remember more bars = more weight

If I was worried about weight, I'd be skinny like Tim. :D

the front are tein HA with cusco adj camber top, rear a kyb, made from alloy, so lighter, both are coilovers. coilover in gd cond, no leak at all

Thanks Mike, have asked those details for clarification.

So for the rear sway bar, you mean lower right? A thicker one will improve handling?

And for strut bar 1st for upper braces, you mean the front strut bar that goes like over the engine or thereabouts? I wouldn't mind one of these, they look cool. (I mean, I want the handling improvements, ahem)

Yes, and yes again for both of your questions.

Troy, a larger diameter rear sway bar will drastically improve handling. It will eradicate understeer to a large extent. Basically, the best way I can explain it is when you go into a corner with some speed, the rear of the car will effectively 'push' the front of the car around the corner. It kinda feels like the car is on a pivot, the front just goes where you point it, and it feels like the rear of the car is pushing you through the corner. Now couple that with a lower centre of gravity, aswell as a firmer shock setup (coilovers) and you will also negate alot of the body roll that you feel when taking a corner quickly.

Strut bars (the cool looking bars that go across the engine) will not do much on their own. They are the finishing piece in the suspension set up.

Get yourself a larger rear sway bar to begin with (and those coilovers if you can sus them out and get them for the right price) and you will never want to get out of your car. It will transform it 100%.

But yeah, you won't believe the difference a larger rear sway bar will make.

These look well used and might be a bit shagged. What are the spring rates? And how much do they want for them? I wouldn't pay too much for 'em.

OK brakes are just slightly starting to shudder on heavy stopping, time for another brake service. Last time I was told the discs will be too thin to skim again. So I am looking for new discs and pads.

I have been researching pads and like the looks of EBC Greenstuff Premium 2000 (http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/greenstuff_brake_pads/greenstuff_brake_pads_2000.shtml). Need to get some quotes up though, then need to look up some good discs. Want to get some with proper venting this time.

What do you guys use?

lol screw rotors and pads, you won't need to slow down with cornering ability you'll have with these bad boys. Unless it's a stop sign or red light... or a car park.

For $300 they look like a good deal, but can you save enough money in time to get new pads and rotors? Or can you drive conservatively enough?
