do any of you use the Honda FEO ultra synthetic oil for you EP3 engine? its only 5-30w.
Nah switched over to 10W40 motul, at the moment still using 10w40 angloil fully synthetic
thanks Johno.. I'll give it a try..
is that what most ppl use on their EPs?
i use Castrol edge 5w30. seems good.
depends on seasons right? thinner during winter and thicker during other seasons or other way round?
yeah Jonho i heard about the same thing..
0-40 in winter and 10-40 in summer..
i could be wrong....
i've been using 5-40
I'd thought 0w40 or 10w40 for summer and 5w30 for winter.
What the hell is that.
I was born in a generation too late :)
the first number means the thickness when cold. a lower number for winter would probably be better so they flow quicker on start up. and you should warm up the car before you go hard.
the second number is when hot so i'd use a thinker oil in summer than winter.
hey fellas.. is any1 here with the EP 3000 plates? PM me..
Hey does anyone know roughly spoon headers are worth?
what happened to that talk of us getting some ep3crew stickers for our cars? we need some i reckon :)
EP squad wouldve been nice. Gonna start packing for my jdm trip.
does anyone have j's racing front strut or c pillar? or knows how to install them?
im having problems installing the front one as the brake reservoir and the aircon line thing is in the way of the bolts on left side.
http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...StrutBrace.jpg
aircon hose goes into the brace as shown, might need to bend some things/remove brackets though.
I am kinda second doubting buying a EP3 considering the price for it... I am on first year of greens so no turbo for me. But the turbo cars are only 2-3k more than EP3, so i dno if i should wait until my fulls (Subaru WRX, Audi S3, Golf GTI). The WRX and S3 both have AWD so thats already worth the extra 2-3k. So why is the EP3 still so expensive :'(
Also i cant see the EP3 holding its price as well as the Audi and the Golf, so 3 years down the track the EP3 will be worth less than 15k
do you need a relocation kit for the reservoir ? or do you take the reservoir off and put it back after installing the strut?
thanks
If you owned an ep3, then you would know why its only 2-3k less than turbo cars....in most cases its quicker than them :) I have raced an s3 and a wrx and the ep3 holds it's own...the wrx i raced actually lost so bleh. Golf GTI is slower than an ep3, it's alot heavier plus no where near as raw and 'race' oriented. The only reason the ep3 is losing it's value is due to the very large increase in the amount of ep3's imported.
imo of course.
I agree wit twest.. go drive an EP3 and see the difference.. the balance and power in the EP3 is almost perfect..
the only GTI thats beaten me is my mates one which he remapped to 210kw.. I surprise the wrx drivers but I've cut down on guys who want to take me on.. I haven't taken on a s3 yet so I can't say which one is better..
I'm driving a stock EP3 and the amount of cars I've kept up with or sometimes get in front of is ridicules.. especially the work they've done on it and I'm stock..
also petrol wise its great but only if you use BP ultimate..
I also don't think the value of the EP3 drops that much.. 3 years ago when i wanted to get one it was between 28 and 30k.. now ppl still try to sell them between 22 and 24.. most importers will try to sell it to you for 25k..
well that's what I've seen since I've been looking for one.. to be honest since I've got mine I haven't thought about getting anything else..
I had a dealer trying to convince me to get a evo 7 or 8.. once he imported the EP3 for me and i took him for a spin he soon realized why I wanted the one..
Not everything’s about the racing!!
Design, function and the beautiful aesthetics of the EP3 sold me years ago, not to mention coming with a K20A straight out of the box.
They were out of my price range till just recently so the price drop was great news for me.
I also have an EG5 JDM B16A SiR-II TURBO running 13.2s on street rubber!!
Heaps faster than the Rex’s, Audi S3 or Golf GTI but I still opted for the slower yet nicer EP3.
AWD is completely unnecessary for in and around town or even the track IMO,
Plus the extra weight of the AWD running gear makes them a tad sluggish and costly on fuel
Now having said that, the EP3 is no slug in any case and can keep up with AWD turbo boys no problems.
Just lookup the Australian Rally Championship stages and compare times between the turbo AWD EVO or REX boys and the N/A FWD Civic Type-R
Not to mention the huge costs involved in service and repairing European cars.
Lukezen27, damoqupak and Twest thank you for your replies :) U guys always seem to be able to convince why i want a EP3 again :D
But tbh the back seats in the EP3 is a joke it doesnt even have headrests. If my friends just sat in the back of the car they would not think the car is worth 20g (especially if they dont know hondas).
I own an auto and i've only driven my friends manual from time to time, only learnt the basics (shifting and hill starts), i cant even blip properly to downshift so i dont think i can really go test a EP3 lol, the owner will think i am a time waster :(
yes the car doesnt come with all the luxrys of headrest in the back, but for wat you get its an amazing car, just test drive one then go test drive a wrx s3 or gti and u will feel a total difference, ive only driven the wrx and gti but imo the ep3 just feels alot better, and its not just straight line, cornering is another bonus, hence the car been made as a Type R its gotto perform on the track aswell
u can come test drive mine in brissy, u can buy it aswell :P its for sale btw
champ you'll be surprised how much space and how comfy the back seats.. yes its not as luxurious as the s3 or gti but for the cash you know the tuning of the engine and rest of the stock features is all honda type R unique and a lot of thought was put into it.. also its loaded with cup holders :]
its up to you.. i was the same.. didn't know if i should go the euro type r, evo 7 or 8 or the ep3.. skylines, gti's and wrx never got my attention way too many of them on the road... ep3 is still a rarity..
I dont know if you've seen this clip but watch it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaYW1mUE8RI
it's top gear's review about the ep3.. I was sold when i saw this clip..
but in the end it's up to you what you want.. do you wanna drive your mates around or do you wanna enjoy driving a car?
P.S. dont worry about manual.. you'll soon get a hang of it.. i was the same when i switched from auto to manual but you soon realize that it's not as hard as it seems.. just stay positive don't ever doubt yourself..
I saw ur car on carsales. Cheapest one on there except for a red one.
Wait so u were on ur full license and u chose an EP3 over an evo? Was it cos evo was too expensive?
Yeah i have seen the video, but top gear is more of a comedy show. Love the show, just started watching it from the start again. I basically search up civic type r EP3 on youtube every 3 days to see what new videos of the car is up lol. I wish people to upload more videos, i just cant get enough of it.
Was the EP3 ur first manual car?
Yep! A lot of us here are full licensed and choose to own the EP3....I myself sold a 400hp R32 GTR to buy the EP3 and don't regret it. But having said that there are some of us here that have had all types of car, unlike the P platers who only think about power and/or luxuries etc.
Owning a Honda Type R requires are certain understanding of the car as a whole......? May not make sense to you (it does to me).
If EP3 isn't your taste to begin with, I'd suggest that you don't buy one. Mazda 3 auto may be your friend if that's the case.
hey guys. finally took my car in for a new clutch on thursday, got a call friday advising of 2 busted engine mounts. Should i go for stock or aftermarket?
I seen some Mugen ones for $450. are they any good?
nah EP3 wasn't my first manual and yeah i do have my fulls..
the reason why i chose the EP3 over the evo is maintenance and petrol plus there's not many out there..
I'm just not the biggest fan of turbos i love the NAs.. If i was going to get a turbo i would of got the evo 8 MR but it was out of my price range and too much on petrol.
I totally agree with Nepolian. If you have doubts on EP3, you are likely better off not buying one because you will sell soon for a turbo or a luxury car.
To really appreciate it, you need a deeper understanding of the Type R. It's not a car anyone can buy and be happy with. I personally don't think you should take words from someone else to convince you to buy one because driving one and see it driven would already tell you alot. I believe that is enough to convince you. If it doesn't, don't buy one.
I bought an EP3 because I drove one, sat in one and also enjoyed the driving sensation from its type r siblings. Not solely because someone is telling me it s quicker than another sports car.
If you're looking for straight line speed, get a turbo and you probably won't need to have a hard life trying to defend Honda's are quick. This is one of the reason why some drivers don't own type r very long because they feel beaten by the more powerful turbos
car started to give a off smell today from the engine bay.Not burning , just a worn smell.
Clutch just about dead ? ffs.
Second gear chirpies are so yesterday Benny :)
does anyone know a yellow dc2r with numberplate sus-1*r? Little guy tried racing me in his HOONDA.
I thought it was funny, i want to contact this guy.
any of u guys got a set of oem engine mounts in sweet condition? none of this cracks and leaks bs lol if u do lemme no, i might be parting out the injen and innovative mounts so gotto find myself a set of stock ones
You can have mine for $50 dude - will be a couple of weeks before I take em
Out tho. will perfectly suit the part-out - to sell situation !
sweet ben cheers, condition still good yeh? as long as the hydrolic one is sweet
yeah all good. just OEM dude. anyway send me a pm in a few weeks time when i got em off
never new injen made mounts :S u mean innnovative right? hahaha
took the baby down the strip for the first time tonight, was nice weather, cold and dry best time i got was 14.1145 on a shit 60ft 2.215, i managed to get 2 runs in properly and 2 fuk ups, first one was 1st gear poped back out which im not sure wat happened, second one i miss shifted 2nd
wat rpm u guys launching at, i no the car is worthy of getting into the 13's
On street tyres, launch around 4-5k with hint of clutch slip. Couple of us in Sydney have gotten 13.9s with cat back, sri. So potential is there but no room for errors :)
I've got a faint chirping noise with my clutch.
Exactly same symptom as this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdVJ5vnO6Jg
Noise stops if i lightly rest my foot on the clutch without depressing more than 5% of the depth.
Does any know how to fix this?
After doing some research, my speculation is that it's either my clutch release bearing is wearing out or my clutch master/slave cylinder are having issues.
I do know my clutch fluid are a bit dark, perhaps bleeding it with new fluid may fix it?
I really hope it's just the old fluids or clutch cylinders. Otherwise fixing the clutch bearing would mean taking out the gearbox to reach it :(
Yea will be doing gearbox fluid soon as well but i doubt that will fix it.
Shifting is still smooth as is but will definitely bleed the clutch fluid and do the brake fluid at the same time.
Does anyone know much Litres is needed to do a full brake flush?
one bottle (500ml) if you're good. Two to be safe :)
Which one of you keeps writing off your cars, my insurance went up $200 this renewal. ughhhhhh...
you guys hoon too much down south. i actually got a reduced premium this year lol
LOl they are better drivers up there. They don't crash and have accidents like some of the Sydney folks here.
Its general knowledge that cars are more expensive to own, register and insure in Sydney....
Qlders are lucky!
BTW....Thinking of selling my recently acquired FL front bar and lip. PM for more details!
yes qlders are always better LOL jks but its tru look at state of origin? hahahaha
That ! Just ! Happened !
Sydney peeps, anyone up for trackday before it warms up??
Open day at wp?
Will be once the sump n clutch n mounts are
In George !
