Damn,that's Awesome!
I don't think I'll get in the 16's being an auto...
Hopefully I wont be workin' wednesday night,we can go then maybe?! :)
I will upgrading to a 2 1/4" exhaust too.
The collector on the header is 2.32"
2 1/4" Stainless steel Hi flow cat $120
2 1/4" Hot dog/resonator $80
2 1/4" Mandrel bent piping $260
Instal $80.
Total = $540.
Then will put the stage 1 cam in and when Andy comes up here, get it tuned with greddy emanage.
That's it,final plans are in and will be done!!! :)
Keen to go to the drags wednesday night?
Everyone welcome!
heck yes new cam Brett :), take heaps of pics of you installing it :)
have to replace my bushings still, waiting for a tool to arrive, then I'll be there :)
prob won't go til after my road trip tho
I might get Geoff to install it,a safer option :)
If I feel up to it wednesday I'll go,just to get atime b4 the cam.Pretty damn boring by ya self but.
Where's ya road trip to etc WOOHOO ROAD TRIP FTW!!!
heading out for a week or so just driving southbound
here and there etc
A man after my own heart!!
That sounds like the best plan ever, legend man!!
Just U and the girl?
you should be able to get into the mid 16s with those mods, i have stockies alloys on my 14s lol

So close to 15's WOOT WOOT!!
yeh i know i think i can do a bit better if i had a better clutch it isnt grippy at all also i needed a service when i went.
That's great news!
Calibrate the tps :)
Here's 'Typhoontimmy' run in his y4!
O,good :)
im considering getting a stage 1 cam also beeza. how much power are you guessing it would make?
When? Soon?
Timmy just ordered the hi flow cat.Geoff has the resonator and piping.Gotta buy a emanage and organise Andy!
ive just purchased an emanage but honestly i dont think ill go with a cam
It's just for fun,not for power,I mean the power increse will be a bonus but if it was power I was after I would have put the b18c in.
So just looking for a funner engine to play with.
I reckon I'll loose low end power with the new exhaust until it's tuned.I could be wrong but at least I'm prepared for that. The tuning will bring it back if it is lost.
out of curiousity has anyone increased timing by rotating the dizzy? i did it last week and theres nicer torque down low i reckon
Changing the dizzy angle? Beez done it
well i need everyones input over there . whichever would have the better turn out i guess ??
the more the merrier .
anybody who wants to see this meet happen feel free to add me on Bing so we can further organize this meet. because i don't wanna post a new thread when i don't really know where people would turn up to ....
hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has a bang for buck set up for around 2.5-3k? the car will be a station car. it is a 99 ek gli sedan granny spec and am itching for a turbo setup after hearing a turbo wind up ( havent heard one in years)
is it possible for 3k? will i need to get a ecu tune? im not sure about the power output on these and wont be expecting anything big but will be happy with 100-120kw atw ( is that too much or a d series). should i go kit or custom build? etc
Yeah,U can have a tinker with it,I'm running the MSD ignition system so it allows for 2 degree advancemant.
Increases performance,it rewrites a new Air/Fuel curve, completely overides the stock ECU's settings.A tuned car is more econonomical if U can keep ya foot of the gas ;)
Runs a lot smoother,I want a smooth delivery of power right accross the entire rev range.
anyone replaced their ICM here? if so how hard is it to remove to rotor screw?
Easy as,just get a big phillips head, honestly not hard.
Thanks for the info
ill buy one next week and try to install it, if i cant ill just get them to change it at work :)
It's easy as to change it,it's just the dizzy plug + the 2 wires that connect to the ICM.Just put it back together how it came apart (easy).
Give the 4 contact points a clean too,use a screwdriver to chip the carbon off then a little sand, sand the edge of the rotor too.
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119576
Thanks for the help Beeza
no need to sand the rotor for me, it was replaced 15000kms ago with the coil, dizzy cap, leads and plugs (before i bought it :)) dunno why they didnt replace the ICM lol
Your welcome, still good to give it a sand to get the carbon off.
Anyone done a rear engine mount on a d-series before, benny?
help?
was considering a skunk2 IM. thoughts?
d16y4 right?
No,U cant,I bought a skunk2 IM and b16 TB and was gonna do it but learnt I couldn't.
This explains it best:
I wouldn't bother with a ebay 'custom manifold' either, more than likely it flows crap.
The best U can do is bore the stock TB out to 60mm,from 56mm and port match the IM + bored out,but in saying that, will it work? Unless it's tested on a flow bench,U wont know.
U can get the TB bored out to 60mm for $195,U can port match the IM yourself with a dremel easily because it does not need to be perfect just larger than 60mm,but would U get gains from it???
Nothing is impossible,I mean Dyno Dave got ricer's d16y4 running on Hondata!!!!
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61690
Anything is possible.
Just need the help.
Greddy e-manage will be a hell of a lot simplier though.
Great gains can be had with an aftermarket IM and TB,sucks we cant use it.
Here's an example of a ebay d-series IM:
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l2...2/img3045w.jpg
If U compare Honda's design to this, this is absolutely crap.Looks all BIG and SHINY though!!!
I cannot see air 'flowing' though this design and I feel it's a very poor design.U would be better off spending the $200 on boring out the y4 IM.
Yonas can get all the port work done.Bear in mind, there's port work and there's port work,so feel it out first if U go that route.
ive decided against the manifold. dont like the reported gains versus the price of them.
ill just wait for my emange to arrive and go from there :)
+ a cam :)
There are great gains to be had with a bigger IM + TB.
so no turbo kits are good for 2k?
I wouldn't say that, my bud OEK40 on bc and here has just that and it gets impressive numbers, everything was bought from china kits on ebay in his car
WOW,a K40! :)
lol nah no k40, biggest Ive seen is Tim's 2.15L but have heard of 2.6L kits
yea Sherwin's lil ek1 sedan with the ebay kit is bullet proof, built is years ago running over 10psi daily driven and raced every blue moon
If you're getting a $2g turbo kit from ebay it's like flipping a coin basically. It might be a decent turbo where you can just buy a decent dump pipe and stuff and just use what seems decent but you won't make good power with reliability as you would with a solid brand.
But that said, sometimes you get lucky and make some nice cheap power with cheap kits :)

what u guys think of this
wow that is an impressive package. quality is usually 50/50 though. could go either way.
honestly im considering going turbo but id personally buy a cheap 2nd hand quality turbo and couple it with cheap ebay parts such as a cast manifold ive seen for about 150 plus a cheap intercooler and piping package to keep costs down. at least that way the vital components will be good quality
"FREE NEW LAMBO DOOR KIT WITH BUY IT NOW PRICE $899!!!!!"
i lol'd
looks like a decent price for the kit but unsure about quality
I'm no mechanic and all those pieces makes my head hurt lol
But I've seen that package on Ebay before and thought it looked good. You could always just replace the turbo or dump pipe
Those exh manifolds are prone to cracking around the welds, so your better off with a cast iron item. The kit has no dump pipe, so your going to have to get that fabricated.
I always look for the kits with dump pipes cause i plan to fit the kit myself. IMO for a stockblock setup ebay turbo kits are fine, the only trouble i hear about the turbo is if your running over 15psi, so stock block i wouldnt run anything passed 10psi.
hey whats up guys.i blew my gearbox not long ago and i was thinking of getting the breeze gearbox and slap it on my d16y1 head with the d16y4 block, i was just wondering if its gonna work?
yes itll work mate. Are you running a Y1 ecu? all D16 blocks are similar, so you can use the Y4 block with Y1 head, as long as your not using the Y4s ecu. gearbox will be fine itll bolt straight up....
Well im planning to get one of those kits some time this year. Im not going for lots of power, as beeza said previously i just want something fun to drive, & stun some unexpecting ppl. Not alot of turbo civics here where i live either so i guess its the unique factor aswell. Not like 'oh there goes another civic with a monster tacho & fart can'....
yeh know what ya mean keep us posted on how it goes and which kit you get etc, you should start a build thread. have u planned roughly how much it going to cost ya
Kinda, im trying to be as budget as possible. Last night i came across a DIY piggyback for the Y4 ecu, so now instead of using the AFC hack i can tune it properly myself.
Turbo kit shipped from USA ~$1000aud
CA18DET injectors (370cc) ~$100aud
Piggyback ~$500aud
I may even get a walbro intank pump. For now anyway i will leave the exhaust how it is, its a 2.25" now anyway. 3" exhaust later on, press-bent so its much better on the wallet.....
I've just got other crap to do first like the gearbox, new clutch & lightweight flywheel, new ignition leads, one of those ground power kits & i may be able to sneek the piggyback in so its outta the 'to do' list....
yea man im running a d16y1 ecu. thanks for your help ay. i just to make sure because i dont want to waste my money on something that wont work. lol thanks again man
im guessing one of those ebay kits?
just read the whole thread. Been slowly getting back into the honda scene, seen a fair few ED build threads with d16's. I've got an ED3 with a d16y1 at home. It was running but was smashed. I can't get my money back on it, so i've recently bought an ED6 off a forum member. Body's alright, got a few dents, but no rust except for under the guards.
Plan now is to pull out the d16 from the ED3 and put it into the ED6, convert to manual & EFI.
Why bother? Because i remember running my car ages ago and it was fun to drive, very rev happy. With the car smashed it left a void that i needed to fulfill. Plus i wanted to learn more about some hands on work, i know a bit of theory. My mechanical skills so far include and oil and filter change haha.
So far i've disconnected most of the parts from the engine bay, harness, hoses etc, took the radiator out. If all is well the old auto box and d15b will be out this weekend.
i find it funny how STILL any ebay turbo kit fall to come with any sort of engine management. Surely if they wanted to make something more attractive they would include an EMS before lambo doors or oil coolers
so dont get an ebay kit?
Honestly any no name brand kit you usually get on ebay is mass produced low quality shit that will only cause you problems in the future. Spend the money on something that has a prooven background and you will be much happier in the longrun
There are certain ways to tell the quality of a non-branded turbo. Auto Salon did a feature on this in January I think.
Generally the idea is that any money you save buying a cheap turbo only increases the risk of problems later.
hey guys just a quick question. i want to replace my gearbox from a D16 to D15 for a shorter ratio, but the problem is that i dont want to spend too much because my clutch is cable. Do you guys know a specific D15 gearbox that is cabled so that i don't need to convert it to hydraulic.
aren't most D15 gearboxes cable?
i have a ED but its converted to d16 engine. lately ive been doing some research about final drives. i found that an integra ZXi ZC motor has a 4.4 FD, but my concern is that im not even sure if this car is actually available in australia
Something to do.
Grab a spare head for $50 and port it with a $30 dremal from bunnings:
http://www.d-series.org/forums/engin...rted-head.html
The one on the bottom of page 5 is what ya wanna do.Ya dont wanna change the shape.U just want to open up the intake and exhaust ports a bit,4 on each side, take off the carbon and a little bit of metal, just a bit to simply open it up a bit,not to change the shape and disrupt the flow.
Mill a bit off the head aswell to bump up the compression a bit,$80-100.
Replace the head gasket, valve seals and uprgrade to a bisimoto cam, then swap it all in.
While your swapping the head in U can use the dremel to port out the Intake manifold ports a bit and do the same with the headers, wont take long.
Also bore the TB out yourself best ya can with a file,I did yesterday, will post pics soon. It's still 56mm but flows better.
All this will cost $700.
This is a GREAT cheap way to gain power,to port out the head as described above without the fear of mucking anything up.
The downside to doing all this is that your fuel bill will go up 20%
In the states guys are going from 44-46mpg to 36-38mpg.More air = more fuel.It takes fuel to make more power.
