Thanks for that:)
RAC came and said it was my alternator.. told him about the fuses under the steering column and he was surprised that a blown fuse could take the alternator out:/ so that was good:) Check engine light is still on but ill just reset the battery or ecu. Should do the trick.
Thanks again RPS.13
ok so turns out. a couple of minutes into my test drive today.. the same thing happened again.
Any idea on what would be blowing that fuse? or could it be my alternator being dodgy?
Check your wires, they may be shorting out. Over time some wires tubes tend to wear out, become brittle and crack from all the heat and elements, and may expose the actual wires. As you drive, movement causes the wire to contact with metal and short out.
This is just a thought tho, as that was what happened to my hid headlight wires (kinda ran them above the manifold. Wasn't a good idea lol)
What size fuse is it blowing? Any chance you could measure the current?
Fuses blow in 2 ways. One is a short which is obvious. Cable fault as above or alternator winding fault. The other is an overload. So as an example if it's a 10 amp fuse it will supply 10 amps forever. Go to 10.5 amps it will blow after a couple of hours. And the time gets shorter as current increases.
Could mean the difference between a shorted cable and a bit of water causing a high resistance earth fault.
What Tyre size will fit the stock ep3 wheels. I know the stock ones are 205/45/17. Will the 215/45/17 and 225/45/17 fit on the stock wheels?
yes both tyres will. 215 is a nicer width - will protect your wheels better from guttering etc.
Yeh I found with 205/45/17 on the stock wheels there was a slight stretch of the tyres. 215 is definitely better.
I kinda get a jerky type motion from my steering wheel anyone else experienced this also?
yo guys.
thinking my clutch is slipping :(
Was driving along all dandy no issues at all, then while I was in 4th gear the car would accelerate and rev normally up until 5k RPM then it would just free rev without actually accelerating as if it was in neutral. Thinking its most likely a blown clutch. Pulled over and tried driving round the carpark and it does the same through all gears. Put the car in 1st and apply normal amount of gas as releasing clutch and the car doesn't move, doesn't actually start moving until I'm at 4-5k RPM. Also can smell burning clutch, smells like shit.
Only question is - clutch? or master cyl? which I know is a common problem on DC5/EP3.
If I do replace clutch does anyone have any suggestions?
Looking at the Exedy Stage 1 Sports Organic...
Is your car lowered? Does it mostly happen going over bumps/bumpy roads? Steering bump is apparently common with the ep3/dc5 suspension set ups, something to do with the steering arm bracket and tie rods or something, can't really remember.
Other than that, it could be that you need a wheel alignment or/and balance.
Car isn't lowered but I do think the alignment wasn't done properly. Its not when going over bumpy roads or anything I just think the EPS feels kinda jerky and not smooth in motion cause I'm sure its not bump at all thats happening, I will get an alignment next weekend cause the wheel is slightly off centre.
When I do a left corner, the rear wheel makes some noise. My brake pads is due for a replacement. Would this be the case? Its coming from the right wheels.
Yeh its a 10a. Pretty sure its the alternator fuse so ill check it out in a few days when I'm home. Alternator might've shat itself. Which isnt good.. don't feel like paying an arm and a leg for a new one from Honda. Unless I can get on cheaper off the net haha.
Does anyone else think its weird there isn't a clock in the car or is it just me? Unless it's hidden or something? Gets really annoying when your late for uni lol.
No it makes no noises at all actually I've had it full lock both ways and there is no sound
check if your lug nuts are on tight?
Hey guys
I was planning to buy a new honda ep3 typeR but i am not sure what to look for?
Not sure how much power at the wheels standard but was thinking to put cams later on what do you guys think?
Hey mate,
Check out johno's thread. It's a great guide.
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthr...ide-EP3-buyers!
Why jump straight to cams? Are you looking at similar cars and thinking the power figures could be a bit higher?
If it helps my mate has a 2006 WRX (think they are 180kw??) which is pretty well on par with my EP3 (excluding the jump). Mine has only an exhaust and intake. With headers and a tune it might be in front even. Didn't test it on the road btw.
What I'm trying to say is don't get too caught up with figures on paper. EP is a machine :)
I know what your trying to say its weight over power the ep is quicker. but in terms of k24 would it be similar to a k20 if i put cams and to do the top-end? im in the market for one in mid june so im just doing a bit of research i didnt want to go turbo becuase i can easily buy a evo but i want Honda N/A.
or is there a differents between ep3 and the new typeR? im not sure the difference...
Took my bumper off the other day to restore my grill from its dull and charcoal look, and after fitting my bumper back on, the drivers side won't align well where it meets the grill meets the headlight. The passenger side is fine.
:(

Not sure if it was there before i took my bumper off cause i've only noticed it after putting it back on, but it looks as if it is bent. Previously I had a 4wd reverse into that area right infront of me (guy was a total ass, claims his reverse sensor and camera didn't see it and called me a liar, even when alarm went off). Maybe that could have made it like that. I've tried taking it off several times to adjust the brackets and headlight with no luck :(
There are quite a few differences as far as I understand it. This should sum most of them up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaYW1mUE8RI
I thought it was the headlights at first but there wasn't much room adjustment on the headlights since they have these tabs/bumps that have to slot into these holes in the bracket. I did however, adjust the brackets that support the headlight, but since the bumper also sits on those brackets it would go out of place if i moved it, if that makes sense...
My guess is that i may have twisted my bumper slightly out of shape since i recall taking my bumper off and forgetting to take one plastic tab at the bottom corner on the drivers side, leaving my bumper half hanging while i remove the tab... =.=
Oh does anyone also have any issues opening their fuel lid? I pop it and it wont open I had to wedge a credit card in there and pop the latch again until it opened, checked it out to see if it was a one off but it doesnt want to open with just the release. fuuuu!
^that happened to me when i first got the car, what I found was the metal tab that clicks the fuel lid close was holding it too tight, so i just bent it a little and it's all goods.
yeah there metal line-up strips under the head lights but the rest are plastic strips with holes where the bumper has little knobs that need to go inside the plastic strips with holes
I've take mine off many times without any issues but the first time it didn't line up as good as i'd likeed to so I removed and replaced and BAM perfect
Anyone heading out to the jdm style tuning meet at wsid tomorrow night. Ill be out there and it would be cool to see a few other ep3's!
Anyone here DIY`ed their roll centre adjusters before? If so, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest. How hard was the install and approximately how long did it take?
Anyone here run/ran 17x8" wide wheels with maybe 40-45+ offset? Found a nice set of BBS 17x8 45+ but wondering if it'll rub against anything in the inner sidewalls; I don't mind rolling my fenders, but wanna try to avoid changing my camber. Oh and tyres will most likely be 215/45
Oh and i'm also lowered about a little less than a finger gap
anyone know if the k20a (my ep3r) alternator has a built in regulator or not? Thinking that my regulator is shat itself so wondering if I could replace the regulator by itself or do I need to go for the whole alternator. (yes I know there's also the option of an alternator rebuild)
Also. Have a problem with my cat. The owner before me or in japan, they damaged the cat then re welded but doesn't sit right which is causing my whole catback to sit out of place which is causing the b pipe to touch the under body which cause that dreadful rumble. So question is, anyone know where I can get a highflow cat from? im running J's racing 60rr.
Thanks guys
one more thing.
Going to bed getting new tyres in a couple of weeks (225/45/17). Im now looking into a set of decent wheel. since stock wheels are 17x7 on 215's.. should I got up to 17x7.5 or 8 with the new tyre width?
^I'm also going to be doing that, as seen in my post above. 215 will fit, with very very mild stretch, you'll prob wont even be able to tell much. I'm just wondering if 17x8 will cause any issues on the suspension side...
Are you running any camber or lowered? Also any issues when turning on full lock?
You'll be fine with 17x8 paired with a 215/45R17 tire.. I run this combo (17x8 +35).
It'll look something like this:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7048/6...f162c58a02.jpg
I'm lowered on N+ coilovers (approx. 2 finger gap between fender and tire). I run camber front (-1.7) and rear (-1.4).. rear guards have been rolled.
Thanks symphorced.
So anyone have 225/45/17's? If so.. what wheel setup would you recommend?
Man, I found something nasty on my car:
RUST! nek minittt. Back of the muffler:
Attachment 21813
Bottom.
Attachment 21814
As you can see, The back of the muffler is rusting and has cracked. I think it's been there for awhile since I've always noticed my exhaust had that spitting air sound. It was only today I found out that air was leaking out of it when i placed my hand behind my muffler.
Is this just a simple weld job at the muffler place?http://static2.ozhonda.com/forum/images/misc/pencil.png
what muffler is that? Spoon?
If that's a picture of the muffler then it's definitely not the stock one.
^Apexi N1 exhaust. Muffler looks shiny as new
and yes it's a picture of the back of the muffler
Good excuse to upgrade! Take it to an exhaust shop and see if they'll weld it up - would be much cheaper than buying another one.
Haha, an upgrade is always nice, but unfortunately i'm tight on money atm :( Time to find a good exhaust shop around Brisbane
Also, i'm looking to buy a set of wheels from someone in Melbourne, and have been quoted online by e-go to freight it to Brisbane depot-depot for around $55 does that sound about right? Thought it would be a little more than that. Wheels are 17x8 with 255/45 tyres on them. Busfreight (greyhound) quoted me $120
Hey guys can anyone guide me on something here?
Seems that my steering rack is playing up, can anyone confirm how the rack is greased up? Does it require the removal of the rack itself? And is there any DIY that shows how to do it?
Im hoping I wont need a new rack, can these things be reconditioned?
Thanks
Thanks again Phillip Lee!
Here you go JDM EP3 - http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthr...-steering-rack
Yeah should be alright. Apparently the steering rack squeak is common in the ep3's!
I think they can straighten that up when they do wheel alignments
Yea, get an alignment, exact thing when i got my car; wheel was at 11 o clock position going straight. Alignment fixed it
The thing is I would have thought they would have done an alignment when I got my Tyres fitted, unless the compliance dude was dodgy and didnt do it....
But what about the fact that the steering on one side feels stiffer than the other? Is this due to the grease issue? Or the fact that the wheel wont centre itself all the way after turning a corner?
Usually most tyre fitting places won't do an alignment unless you ask for it specifically, they'll just balance your wheels with the new tires. I'm 90% sure that an alignment will fix your wheel not centering issue.
as for the steering issue, that could also be due to your alignment as you're fighting against the wheels to keep it straight.
Hmm ok I asked the guy at the workshop to grease up the rack and I asked if he did the alignment and he said he didnt do it cause he didnt want to do things without asking me first. Seems odd cause they do setups for race cars and stuff there and the guy is scratching his head about this and he took it for a drive. I'll tell him to do the alignment and hopefully I'll have no problems.
What workshop is this?
He would have charged you extra if you wanted an alignment. Fitting tyres does not mean free alignment.. if only it were true! :D
Ok, so I started at the start and got to page 938 before I gave up reading . . . . have learn't a shedload, thanks guys.
Cant wait to pick up my EP3 from IMG on Saturday morning, driving it straight home to the Sunny Coast so I can pull it apart and see how it works . . .
Congrats! I think I recognise your username from TOCAU. You use to drive a silver Sportivo?
You will love the EP3. You will love it more once you add an intake.. ;)
I did Spookz, I sold it about 2 years ago and bought a sensible family car . . . needless to say that it didn't take long to get bored with it! We have a family Camry already, so I'm really not sure what I was thinking, selling that Corolla was the worst decision I have ever made. I was dead set on buying another one until I started looking at newer Civic Type R's on carsales and stumbled across an EP3 . . . the rest, as they say, is history.
As for the intake, if you remember my Stroller, you know I'm not shy on the mods . . . can't wait!
Thanks for the welcome mate.
Hi Everybody
anyone know how long it took IMG to do the compliance on their ep3? cause i just bought an 05 but now placed in the waiting game =[
Due for a major service soon, anyone know what model spark plugs do EP3 use?
I got these for mine
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o01_s00_i00
Pretty expensive haha, 21$ per spark plug :\ guess i'll get em online.
Anyone know if the DC5R and EP3R have the same driveshafts? both AUDM and JDM?
icebox so your the one that bought the 05 ep3 @ img on saturday?
