that should have been honda 1 and 2..
lol
were the merc engines that big a factor?
maybe
the honda and mercedes engines.. same hp output.. wasnt the issue.. it was the team drivers getting stale.. if you were threatened with your job loss you would perform also.
but dont forget also, totally new cars this year, and honda/brawn have been developing they're car for over a year now
honda must be dieing right now
all that work
haha
Woohoo!!! time to change the forum name to OZBRAWN.com!!!!
:honda::thumbdwn:
gotta admit, it's an amazing story
LOL...
WTB:
E63 Half Cut - I'm doing a Merc conversion for my EG.
max doughies..
ozbrawn.com ftw
then I wont be ashamed to tell people im a member
You know what, at a glance it is but then when you delve deeper its kinda not...
Honda have been developing this car since early 2008... Honda has been bankrolling this team probably up until 3 weeks or so ago. This 'is' a Honda chassis (minus the engine). This car would have been little different (If at all) if Honda had of stayed...
If you want to see how a real new team will do on debut, (And not just one which took over another - This "other" being one with MASSIVE resources already put in place) wait until USGP in 2010...
If you follow F1 as closely as I do then you'll come to realize and accept that BRAWNGP or Virgin BRAWNGP, whatever it's called, will not last... They don't have the resources that Ferrari, Toyota and even Redbull have... I give them the first 3 months or so for the flyaway races then when they get back to Europe we'll see them coming back into the midfield or not as dominating as now...
By next year, mark my words, this team will be midfielders... (Note: If the salary cap does come into effect then what I said may not apply)
Why would their awesome run change in that time? They DO have the resources to be a constantly winning outfit. The fact remains that if they keep in points paying positions, or better yet place on the podium, sponsors will throw money at them.
Don't mistake this as just another 'Force India' or 'Spyker'. Ross Brawn is an EXTREMELY capable man with plenty of industry connections.
The same thing happened when Ken Tyrrell created his own team from scratch. No one thought it was possible to match the front running Lotus', and he proved them wrong. Jackie Stewart, under Tyrrell's guidance went on to win many a grand prix with that outfit.
its been said the merc block is around 50-60hp up on the Honda... that certainly makes a difference on the straights...
n the drivers have also commented on how 'drivable' it is.. the power comes in really smooth.... torque is also better apparently...
u cant forget that they still have one of the best facilities on the grid when it comes to development...
only thing they're lacking imo is funds... which im sure they'll get after todays results.... sponsors should be knocking on their door before the next round...
I see where you're coming from on this and I do agree with you that this may not be another B.A.R. 2004 season. Yes this is Brawn and not Nick Fry at the helm anymore (They should have kept Richards/Prodrive after 2004) but also remember, like I said earlier, this is not a BRAWNGP car, this car was created with Honda money...
For me, it's about the money and this teams past history on not keeping their eye on the ball (2004 to 2005)...
Only time will tell... I still stand by my judgment that Ferrari and McLaren (As well as Redbull and Toyota) will catch up in leaps and bounds after the first flyaway Grand Prix...
great job they did, shame it finished under safety car - I had a strong feeling this was going to happen.
agree with petronas.. this was essentially a honda win, chasis developed by honda since like sept 2007 i think it was, just a merc motor dropped in. Ross was fairly new to honda too, so it was all just starting to slowly come together.
just a shame for cam mcconville, i believe he was looking to get into the f1 car.
yeah wtf i hear cam mcconvilles name dropped here and there?
did he move from v8s?
when i refer to honda i mean the 'honda team' engineers, drivers, car, ross brawn included, all that is missing is the honda logos (you can say honda funded this team too - they basically developed the car/chasis bar the motor) all brawn did was basically buy the team from honda and change the name...
cam mcconville i believe was testing the car and was looking to become a future driver for them? not sure but im guessing something like that - can anyone chime in on this?
Typical Malaysian attitude
"mark my words" armchair expert right there....
It's an amazing story because it's about a guy who in November was told he'd have no job, the team is new, had no sponsors until yesterday and managed to come poll and 2nd and then finish the way they started.
isnt he nepalease?
haha
i dont care if he's a butt dwelling pirate from uranus
Its not quite that simple with the chassis development.
Yes Honda did have a good basic chassis, but I'm willing to bet that the McLaren Mercedes motor / gearbox would have had different dimensions & mounting positions from the engine / gearbox Honda was working on.
And in F1 this is one of the most important parts of the car it would have required a lot of work to make it fit and keep CoG and drivability the same and improve on it.
I'll bet that they spent a lot of time & money redesigning the chassis once they got the Merc engine contract.
Either way, go team Brawn!
Thats the first thing that came to mind when I was typing the msg "Mark my words"... Sounds a tad cocky...
It's amazing that Brawn got all the deals put in place to get an engine, to get an entry and to revive the team (And now a sponsorship deal with Bransen).
It was however not amazing that they did so well. The only thing that amazes me is that they married the Mercedes to the Honda chassis in such a short amount of time AND that they had so little track time before the season. (Massive kudos to the team for this) Everything else was already put in place, the engineers, the R&D facilities, the car... More than a year of development competing with 8 to 6 months, hardly a surprise...
I admire very much Brawn, Fry and Rubens (Never been a Button fan).
And... what buggs me is everyone is hyping this team to be "new"... It is NOT new (in the sense that everyone thinks anyway), the only new thing about this team as of now is management and engine... Honda money has always been there (Up until a certain point anyway) and now being replaced with new money...
We will see the effects of Brawns leadership as opposed to Fry and Honda soon enough...
Yeah lol... I'm not familiar with any native Malay culture/attitudes...
Like I said... we haven't had a new team (Built from scratch) since Toyota in 2002... Wait until USGP...
i lol'd at that polish fag (the one who crashed 3rd last lap) who actually thought he would have one if he didnt crash. wat a fukn moron. stupid ugly ass nose too
http://www.formulaf1.com/wp-content/...s-gargamel.jpg
would have one?
you mean won?
lol we commented on his nose when he took his helmet off, bloody tool
I was there with my missus and once again, a handful of ferrari fans show there typical un-sportsman-like stinky attitudes! I had my Jenson Button flag and they were bagging me and my missus throughout the race! at the end of the race we held the flag over our heads proudly... lol EAD fagggzzzz...
but it was a great race... and weather was really good! So happy that I was there for Button's 2nd career victory... Honestly I didn't think I'd ever attend a race where JB would win! lol Brawn team ftw!~
This guy says it like it like it should be said in the media...

Honda's Two-Year Strategy Is On Course
Forgive the intrusion to the "incredible fairytale" proclaimed by Eddie Jordan, but, upon reflection, the Brawn GP story is not the romantic tale of plucky underdogs making good that some elements of the F1 media are intent on depicting.
Brawn GP are not the new boys on the block. They are the massively-resourced Honda team operating under a new badge and with a considerable budget. Their figurehead is the most-celebrated engineer in the team's history. Their drivers are both established race winners. And they've been working on this car for over a year.
Where precisley is the romance in that? And where's the underdog? There is, undoubtedly, a novelty factor in finding another team at the top of the pile but, in general, Brawn are being portrayed as something they are not.
As Martin Whitmarsh remarked, Brawn are effectively reaping the rewards of "a strategy" devised by Ross Brawn 15 months ago when, in his own words, "we decided to virtually drop the programme for 2008 and concentrate on 2009."
Some might consider that strategy duplicitous. Not so; it was a business decision, and one made easy by the full horror that was the unfixable Honda. There's no polishing a turd, after all. But there's a flip-side to consider. McLaren and the like should have no shame - and suffer no repercussions - from copying aspects of the Brawn, including their controversial diffuser. "We had 15 months to look at the regulations," remarked Brawn at Melbourne. The rest of the field, busy racing to the maximum in 2008, had no such luxury.
hamilton 3rd! trulli been relegated!!
Ross Brawn is the instigator of all this success...
And this team was competitive at one stage in their B.A.R. Honda guide under the watchful eyes of David Richards/Prodrive (Same organization which ran the Subaru WRC teams) - 2004, they came 2nd in the constructors championship, beating McLaren & Williams (who were part of the "top 3 teams" at the time)
lol @ ferrari anus expansion
Button's gf (the girl holding the Button flag walking with his dad after the race) is hawwwwwt
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
very good observation aaron
agree with petronas...this IS honda. I don't think you can blame honda for pulling out, they are more interested in the well being of Honda, then Honda F1.
This car has been in developement for almost 2 years whereas other teams had 6 months, probly shorter for title contenders. I think if there wasn't such a massive change in the rules, they'd still be behind.
We'll see if they can keep up developement on the car. A few years back when webber was at williams, the car was competitive at the start of the season, but fell backwards badly cause they couldn't develop the car anymore due to funding. The big boys (ferrari, mclaren) just storm ahead.
Remember there's still an appeal on the rear diffuser. Did a bit of reading on it and it seems very grey. It may be legal, but also against the spirit of the rule changes. Pretty much everyone has followed the rules EXACTLY and made a diffuser with the measurements stated in the rulebook. But Brawn (the genius he is) made the diffuser within the regulations AND also added "hole" in it to allow air flow from the front to pass out of thus generating more downforce. With the increase downforce, there's argument that their design is causing disturbance in the air, which is making it hard for the car behind to overtake, which is what all the rulke changes are about.
I think you couldn't have asked for a better start to the season, all the overtaking were great to watch, the effects of KERS are more evident in a race.
I watched the first 30 mins of the race yesterday before passing out due to exhaustion (not boredom).
How lucky was Barrichello to retain his 2nd spot finish after that shocking start?!
Good victory for Brawn none the less... ex-Honda so i suppose we can go YAY
Whats everyone's thoughts on the new Kerrs system?
Loved all the overtaking that was going on because of it :)
Certainly more evident this season imo!!
****ing OATH
TOYOTA GOT FKN RAPED
TRULLI kicked 25seconds for overtaking while the safety car was out
he is know in position 12 ROFLMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo
AND HAMILTON IS FKN 3rd ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
what a champ from 15th to 3rd
18th ;)
Hamilton was last on the grid yesterday arvo.
good race, Melb is a great track, can't wait to go there to watch it in real life one time :D
still cant get over Branson can just buy a team and win instantly... lol
far out, I didnt know the next race was this weekend, awesome
do you guys reckon jensen button still has his NSX ? since honda don't own the team anymore ?
yea, you get to keep all that merchandise (it should be included inthe contract)
one guy in Moto gp got a bike for every season win in his contract :D
honda shuld sign on as a sponsor...
it was funny seeing brawn gp suits with no sponsors on em...
branson is one lucky guy...
90% honda chassis + merc engines = good stuff!
hamilton goes on for a solid 3rd... who wouldve expected that!
Im def going to watch the next race
if vettel is getting penalised 10 grid positions for Malaysia, how come nothings been done about rubens? Pretty identical, except he got away with a slight damaged wing.
i think vettel also helped jenson by taking out kubica, he was a MAJOR threat to the fairytale. as wouldve been kimi if he stayed on the track and also he had KERS to help with the overtaking.
anyone else notice the other commentator (not brundel) sayin "Beumi" over n over.... he musta said his name bout a hundred times....
gave me the shits...
but yea cant wait for Sepang next week... should be interesting to see how they go on a 'real' racing track... the KERS cars should hav more of an advantage than they did @ melb considering Sepang has a few more straights ...
im cut cf got 3rd but ah well
woooo
management midsem then straight to watching friday practice for me!
the more i think about it, the less im impressed by hamiltons 3rd place, he just got lucky
he only made one or two passes, evry1 elses mistakes and collisions leading to their retirment or getting penalised that shoved him up into 3rd place..
as for brawn, i want more info...but it seems that this is basically a 100% honda outfit, except for the merc engines
and i would love to know y brawn decided to go with the MERC engines, prob coz MERC wanted a part of the pwnage car honda had made
i now think that Melb GP results would have been the same if Honda had stayed on board with their F1 team....
well honda was one of the first to start testing their new car for the 2009 season...
and they should have done it a long time ago... complete redesign of the chassis...
but its good to see a 90% honda car (chassis) doing well so far.. and good that they went for the mercs... ferraris suck balls
it would be good to see honda semi sponsoring/helping out the outfit aswell... hopefully..
Honda was one of the first to start development of the 2k9 car... but they were actually the last to test it... well not honda.. they had already left... but Brawn...
Honda has given a fair bit of money behind the scenes.... without their support Brawn wouldnt be competing this season...
but in no way are we gona see a Honda logo on the car.... n merc hav made it clear that in no way should their brand be compromised.
really? dang =(
bloody mercs... lolz
currently Brawn will be reaping the benefits of honda money & developement from last year. But as time goes on, they'll start to look like a private team e.g. force india, williams. They just won't have the funding like a manufacturer to develop the car.
When Minardi was around, Paul stoddart said they had $40-50 mil to spend a season, and that's mostly money from his company. Whereas ferrari, mclaren, toyota, could spend that in one race.
Sad to see Honda's impossible dream come true... Just... With no Honda logo's and a rival powerplant...
That's f*cked...
Is it just me or does everyone else here think Nakajima is rubbish..? We know why he's there but still...
he is rubbish, but y is he therE?
same reason y sato was there.
one thing that stands out for me was when he had 3rd in the bag but went for the glory of 2nd and took himself and rubens in the ferrari off the road...hahahaha
=
i dont get why, when he was set to finish 3rd quite easily, he tried the foolish maneuver of going for 2nd place, which resulted in them both crashing. hahaha
I just got beck from Mel guys and all I can say it was bloody good, it was worth flying all the way from Perth, and I will definitly do it again. Very good race and goos result for us honda fans cos pretty much it's half honda half mercedes that won hehe, anyway Hamilton did very well and he proved that he will be up there again, and Button proved that he is good driver if he has good car to drive, feel sorry for honda cos this could have been golden year :-(
and I managed to get this photo
http://photos-h.ll.facebook.com/phot...11_2012069.jpg
hehe fully sick, I had seat at fangio grandstand so view was very good (start, pits ect) just so good and also australian GTs was good, all those supercars :-)
it was practically 90% honda 10% merc
Yeah i got back from Melbourne yesterday, The merc engine makes a distinct popping noise as it downshifts, brawn were also using the "front diffuser" , I think its adjustable by 6 degree, I noticed the cars with the diffuser were more stable through the corners, which has cause a stir in the rival camps. Virgin stickers were tacked on Saturday during Quals and werent there on friday during practice. Ferrari with the KERS system was a suprise, safety cars (C63) were also hot sounding cars. Nothing can truly replicate the awesome sound of a F1 car, its a must do in real life. I heard from friend that brawn has axed 230 staff from its team today.
theres murmurs that the BRAWN wasnt showing its true pace in melbourne....
if this is really the case.. then gg the rest of the field...
actually it makes sence... why push the car to the limit when u know it'll get u home (with a win) when only pushed to say 80%... n plus why would u wana make everyone else look stupid... it'll just cause more controversy imo... so good ploy by ross...

Brawn GP recorded a one-two victory in Melbourne, but it seems the former Honda team could have destroyed rather than simply beaten its competition.
BMW-Sauber figures expressed huge disappointment about Robert Kubica's late crash with Sebastian Vettel last Sunday, insisting the Pole could have raced up to eventual winner Jenson Button and passed him.
"That's interesting," Briton Button, 29, grinned as he reflected on his win in St. Kilda - a beach suburb near Melbourne - before having to jet off to Malaysia.
"I don't think Kubica has any idea about whether I was driving as fast as I could have," he added coyly.
Red Bull's Vettel, seemingly matching his Mercedes-powered rival as he ran second to Button for most of the 58-lap race, suspects the Brawn driver's hint is indeed true.
"I have the feeling they (Brawn) were playing with us," the German told Auto Motor und Sport.
An unnamed Brawn team figure is quoted by Britain's Guardian newspaper as also suggesting the Brackley camp did not display its full pace throughout the 2009 season opening race weekend.
"It is just foolish to just annihilate people all the time," he said. "I think we have a little bit in the bag. We've got good stuff coming and I think we have reason to be confident," he said.
