Injectors or Radiator?

hey guys so my turbo kit arrived safely through customs and i didnt have to pay import duty or any taxes so i was quite happy. anyways so far i have sitting in my room:

greddy turbo kit + emanage
fmic+piping
f1 racing stage 2 clutch.

i want to get them all installed at the same time, but i still need: bigger injectors, a half-size radiator, and eventually i want a 3" exhaust. my question is: would it be better to get a radiator or injectors first? i want to run around 5psi on the TD04 to begin with, then when i get the 3inch exhaust and radiator/injectors (depending on which one i can leave til later) i want to get a re-tune to about 9psi or so. can anyone give me some advice with my radiator/injector dilemma? cheers

if u can get all together

Save up a bit longer and get Injectors / Exhaust together, then tune. Do it once. You'll save in the long run.

Radiator you can get later if you just going to be running on the street.

ok cool. i leave for overseas soon so i want to get stage 1 done before i go. then i want to have exhaust/radiator/injectors done before december, because i start full-time (actual full-time) study next year

soudns similar what im going to do man.

i think you should get injectors and exhaust done together and retuned at a higher level.

but for the meantime i would just run the stock kit at the stock boost setting and tune on the emanage untill you collect all the parts, retunes cost money, so slap it all together when you are happy.

btw how did you get away with customs? 'gift'??

get injectors first dude then your exhaust and then rad last cause that aint a biggy yet and also have you got a bigger fuel pump for it? that is a must

do you need a 1/2 size radiator to clear the turbo kit? if not leave it til a later date

thanks for the advice guys. this is good because it means i can bolt the turbo on sooner. i dunno how i got away with customs, it only took like 10 days from me paying for it until it was at my door as well. i was really impressed. and excited

u will probable need a fuel pump to....

walbro 255lph, u can get them fairly cheap.

but yeah as dean said save up and do it all at once. radiator isnt a big thing, u can do it down the track and it wont affect the tune of the car

ur going to need a boost controller to.... other wise once again u will want to boost it up then u will need to get it retuned to handle more psi.

save up for everythin at once so u feel a mad difference in performance,
id get the exhaust first, run it on stock tune because it will make a huge difference, then get injectors n fuel pump + tune then radiator !!!!!

upgrade your brakes if u can.

yeah im trying to keep it to the intital tune, then only one retune. can you buy a power FC for a d-series? because i want some mad apexi commander bling in my cabin. or can any other boost controllers be used with the e-manage?

yeah i was thinking of leaving it to do it all at once, but i think i'd rather get used to the power for a bit first and decide whether i should do a brake upgrade as well eventually. and i need to see how much money i can save to see if i can actually afford exhaust+injectors by the end of the year anyways

install and tune of greddy kit: $1500 (neighbour is a mechanic and is helping me out, so really 1500 for ecu install+tune)

tune needs to be done on a dyno btw. n do tune after everything installed, cause saves u money re tuning all d time.

E-manage maps are locked so you need to do this... in order!

1. Install GReddy Kit stock setting all round, don't upgrade anything. No Tune needed at stock 5psi with the safe tuned base map for D16's already installed. Drive round and have a bit of fun :thumbsup:
Find a H-3 GReddy Harness if possible and save yourself a lot of fuking round.

2. Install you clutch

3.Radiator/Fuel Pump are not really needed but are optional safely options.

4. Install Exhaust, this is coze you can do this upgrade and still drive round without a re-tune just don't hit it to hard at this point.

5.Install RC 440CC Injectors + Complete tune as you need to delete the e-manage locked map and start fresh.

6. ARP Head Studs for added safety.

^^^ are you serious about the no need for a tune? this excites me. does the h-3 harness allow you to pretty much connect the emanage to the ecu? or is there still a lot of wire splicing to be done? the diagram doesnt look all that complex...

harness recommended, i dun have it but luke definately recommends it. bastard just dint tell me bout it till after. :P

not really worried about a/c as long as i have windows. i wouldnt mind getting rid of the p/s though. the kit is sitting pretty much assembled in my room apart from the intercooling. luke did his intercooler himself so i might have a chop at it

cooler n piping is easy, as long as the pieces r there n correct, i got shit piping dint even fit had to get new piping lol

do the piping first, aligning etc then place cooler accordginly, not cooler first,

easy peazy

its not about getting use to the power. depending on wat kinda size ur exhaust system is, if its restricted then u have a chance in blowing a headgasket from too much back pressure especially wen u feel the need to 'test' ur power , but it prob wont hurt to drive under boost like normal. greddy management apparently is safe on stock pump and injectors @ 5psi so its not in a need to upgrade jus yet. i still think u could get by and jus do the whole thing at once =] but up to u mate, jus dnt want u to rush thing now that ur so close that'll dig a bigger hole in ur pocket.

can you run the stock tune with say an added intercooler and piping kit? or jsut by adding that will you need to retune?

H-3 Harness means its straight PnP - no fuking up you wiring loom

would you reccommend 440 injectors if i want to run around 9/10 psi? or will something a bit smaller do the trick? i hear injectors work best around 80% of their max capacity so im guessing overkill is good? any other reccommended hand controllers for down the track?

Go the RC 440cc the lower one are only like $20 cheaper but most ppl think the 440Cc are a good allrounder size..

WHy would you neeed a hand controller?

What you realy need is a good EBC (E-Boot 2)

i was running 550cc in mine on 10 psi, no where near maxing them out, 440cc would do the trick!

as for boost controller i picked up a greddy profec b spec 2 for 250$ second hand. plenty of them around they work well!

ok i will definately look at 440cc then. has anyone had experiece running a turbo (pref. greddy kit) and 3inch exhaust untuned? because this is the road im going to take i believe.

I've got 440cc and no issues. You will need a retune though if you change injectors

keeep injectors till last, u wont be able to increase boost either tho.

yeah ive learned heaps, ive learned quite a lot just from bolting the greddy kit together as well. its really helped me understand how everything works a lot clearer. and yep last on the list will be injectors+tune.

yeah i came in my pants a little bit when the truck pulled up with turbo kit, apexi rsm, greddy sandwich plate, FMIC, and oil temp gauge. it was like 100 times better than christmas, except i had to pay for it

fancy dump pipe there, never really seen one like that before, mind u i have never taken notice of the greddy kits either

most i have seen are just a simple flange with exhuast pipe coming off it...

heres a pic of my old one on my d series turbo, see the difference :)

i think i would of prefered urs though, ha my brother made my dump pipe in our shed

oh and can somebody tell me if there are supposed to be 2 ring clamps on the silicone piece on the intake side of the turbo? because i think i may be missing one otherwise.

you seem to be having a coolant issue.

did you not run an o2 sensor?

haha yeah i had a coolant leak when i first put the coolant in the y8 engine, came from the IM gasket!

and no i didnt, it had a o2 sensor plugged up to it when it was tuned with hondata, but i didnt have one in every day, didnt need one

should be one for each pipe connection, so yes two clamps on each silicon piece.

nope, my first one i had a dodge thing around it but once i got another sump and relocated it i just had the tube, not sure if i have pics of the relocated one

The reason why the dump pipe is like that is because its uber close to the AC compressor.

aza ur dump remind me of mine, lol we did a home job as well on my car. fuk reliability was the shietiest thing, but i would have to blame that on me because i rushed things. definately got the biggest power gain and suprised heaps of rev heads

yeh the greddy elbow (although may look cool) is actually a big restriction in the system, as you can see the awkward bend. changing the elbow and the small downpipe will net you some good gains.

In doubt there would be much gains for 2.5" to 3" on such little motors

haha my car could never be too loud. my mate just sold his dc5r with injen intake, mugen headers + BC spec 2 exhaust. i think it was around 121db in vtec. i would love my car to sound like that

If you want it quite, get a good quality straight through muffler with larger casing. None of these small fart cannons you see running around. You can always look at getting resonators too.
