well i checked out a CW DC2R and the Type R no. isn't the same as the VIN. (the R number is the same as engine no. tho). i looked at the service book and varified with the selling dealer and it seems geninue (both VIN and engine no. are the same as recorded with Honda). so i don't think the R no. will always equal to the VIN. (correct me if i'm wrong tho)
