Just drove it for the first time in two week yesterday, to get some fuel.

I was thinkin the other day that we should have a EP3 owners list. Purely just for reference and share ideas about the car etc........

It would be good for all to be able to meet up for a photoshoot one day.!

mate im loving the gruppe m intake at the moment lol i cant get enough of reving to vtec and just listening to the engine scream. Only issue is that it moves a lil but that doesnt effect ur performance at all just annoying little squeaks here and there nothing to worry about. NightRyder
23-04-2008, 06:57 PM
Philip, you will be able to make spares locally but they may need to be taken to locksmiths to do this as they have these special machines to cut it precisely and accurately. Having it cut roughly will result in not being able to use the spare key. Just be sure that the key you receive with the car has the numbers engraved on it somewhere for it to be copied and cut.

Just in regards to the Honda remote, I got two sets of keys but only 1 remote when I bought my EP3R.
I have one existing remote which I had that was programmed to my old AU DC5's central locking system.

My mate suggested that I was able to reprogram my remote suit my EP3R. I wasn't too convinced, but we gave it a go anyways.

He searched the net and we found the steps on how to do it HERE (https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AU/AAM32043.pdf).

It didn't work the very few times we tried to reprogram my remote, but we decided to give it one more go, and finally it worked!

Now I have two keys with two remotes.

Hope this helps others out there.

surprisingly the insurance for EP3 (@$30k agreed value) is cheaper than what i'm paying for my Jazz (04 with mkt value).

cheaper than a DC2R (@$20k agreed value) and a brand new Golf GTI.

but i have a clean record tho.

PL, most Hondas run Z79A I think. Yes they will work, just get OEM for ITR. I got some hamp ones from forum trader :)

egads, as for fuel consumption, I still get about 420-450 before fuel light and thats being driven normally. I have gotten up to 500 before with some light driving.

was it easy? did you wire all 3 wires to the back of the dials?

and pic pic pic lol

hmmm i wouldnt say it was that hard Lee, if i can do it im sure anyone else could hehe :) only tricky part was, was slicing off the insulation of the wires without cutting into the conductor. What i did was remove the dial unit/cluster bit. To do so u first pull out the black plastic frame sort of looking thing thats on the outside that just snaps straight out, then u have to remove 3 screws, then after that u pull out the cluster/dials whateva its called and what i did was attach the 3 wires for the shift lights to the wiring plugged into the top of the cluster dial.

Ill show pictures soon of the final outcome :)

Philip Lee
26-04-2008, 07:13 AM

still learning about it. i'd prefer the seat lower and the car slightly louder, stock is very quiet.

the steering isn't straight atm. when the wheel is in centre, it goes to the right. not sure if it's alignment or the steering rod problem lots of people have in UK.

otherwise love it very much.

By the look of things, you just need a wheel alignment. Steering rod only becomes a problem when you start lowering it mre than an inch or so, otherwise you're ok.

Yeah when I first got it, I thought it was a little quiet for a Type R.

i honestly don't know if a catback alone makes much gain in output. however they are usually lighter than stock so there is definitely improvement.

definitely sounds much better and looks hot tho.

i personally can't be bothered moding NA for horsepower. lots of $$ spent for (relatively) little gains.

not trying to rain your parade, just my opinion.

Same for all N/A cars. Good thing is. The K20A will respond to light tuning such as I/H/E and Hondata. Which would not cost the world if you do it smartly!

IMO, if you want to do it cheap, Custom SRI/CAI - Under $300 easy, Headers on EP3 are pretty good - leave them if you want or take them out and cleanout the ports. Get a custom 2.5 mild steel cat back - Between $300 and $400 pending on what muffler you use.

Then Hondata which would give you the most gain once you done it. Can be done for under $2K and the car would be doing 13's (Highish).

hahaha awesome mate ! ! ! the gruppe m makes the car crazy n heaps more enjoyable aye! ! ! I just love the sound of the engine 4000rpm up and when vtec kicks in that sound makes me have to change my underpants from the mess i make ! !

Im using the scuttle they supply and i got it to sit O.K before when i first installed it. All i did was use 1 strip of double sided tape on the top end of it to hold it down to the window and not long after, it come unstuck and i could hear it knocking and moving everytime i was driving. Now i used up all the double sided tape and it doesnt move at all. Also that black cushion tape they supply i had to put on the inside top end of my hood to stop it rubbing up and scratching the main body part of the gruppe m.
Ive seen how people modify and use the oem scuttle and that job turns out pretty good aye. I might try it 1 weekend if im feeling keen enough LOL

Also Congrats on ur new car buddy :D welcome to the ep3 family ! !

yeh i can't get it to sit right so I am going to do that scuttle mod one day when i get the chance. how do you go with washing your car haha? i washed it today and put a plastic bag over it to be safe. i have the same problem with the main body of the gruppe, does yours move around even with the bigger round clamp fully tightened? mine still allows the gruppe to move from side to side or does yours not move?

HAHAH the washing issue is funny with me. I put a sheet of cardboard to cover the inlet scoop ! ! i look like a idiot when i take my car for a spray at the local car lovers washing station, everyone looks at me like why the hell has he got a sheet of cardboard on his front window lol

With my main body of the gruppe m i remember when i first installed it, even though i tightened it right up where i heard the screw chewing into the metal part it attaches to i could still rock the gruppe m body to the left and the right, it moved so freely. But when i got my car serviced at mechanic they said they fixed it right up it wont move anymore and i took a look and i was like wtf ?? how did u guys do that ?? and they said they just kept tightening it till it stopped rocking. so yeah mine sits perfectly still now but b4 it didnt. So i say carefully tighten it up slowly till it stops rocking.

With the exhaust im still deciding, i really dont know which brand to pick and all are pretty pricey ! ! god dam i wish it was as cheap as it was when i modified my pulsar sss lol But yeah been looking at the fuji rm-01a like urself. All the reviews for it are saying its awesome and the sound note of it is nice. Probably get that with mayb toda headers im not sure. With tax return coming up in a couple of months, ill see then whats in my price range and just go for it hehe :D

Its a major trait with FWD'd and two hands :) Especially with LSD as noted!

Personally, I have no complaintswith the steering!

I thought it was to do with the lsd. I quite like it, you have to muscle the car around so to speak. Always 2 hands or your asking for trouble as it can catch you off guard very easily.

Not gonna start another debate about water and CAI!

IMO, it'll never happen unless you go for a drive in the lake or beach!

18 HP atw alone is a big claim. CAI and GruppM is about 8-10kw on a chassis dyno, which equates to 13-14hp at best.

Never dealt with any of the password products, so never say never I suppose!

Probably do intake first as it is probably the cheapest.

Header and exhaust will cost a bit and should be done together out of convienence.

For I/H/E usually about 10-15 kwatw....but the gains are not just in the end kwatw but in the middle where it matters. Especially with the header, which would give you a good rise in the mid range (from 3500rpm or so) without giving you alot more atw.

Intake itself would get 5-10ish pending on which type etc....

Does that make sense?

the first mod i did on the ep3 is the gruppe m. There definitely is a performance increase as well as having a nuts sound now. I have a fuji rm=01a exhaust on order so when that arrives it will be the second thing so I can't comment on which one made more difference yet but follow what Nepolian said and you can't go wrong.

My first mod will be lowering rail as i can't stand the high sitting position lol.

i don't really care about power mods at this stage. 140awkw is enough for me (coming from a MX5 which has 70...). but when i get bored later, i might start with intake.

i'm doing cosmetic/personalising bits atm, i have some Rays sitting in the garage now.

i have been running around trying to get a spare key cut.

my car has the OEM immobilisor and all the places i went to can't program the key for me. i wonder how much it will cost at Honda dealer....

anyone has any advise?

in a way it's good that nobody can make a spare key easily but on the other hand it's a PITA.

I have heard rumours that you're not able to have additional remotes for unlocking car programmed by Honda dealers in Aust because they use different equipment to Japan, and you're not able to have one made without the car present, thus you can't have one sent from Japan programmed. Is there any truth to this, or have people been able to have remotes programmed?

how do you guys think a set of 7.5" wide and +50 offset wheels will sit on an ep3 considering stock is 7" and +45?

WIll sit fine stock.

When you lower it more it will scrub the inner guards and chasis on full lock turning.

Even with camber itll still scrub.

Usualyl when u get wider wheels u should get more aggressive offsets.

how do you guys think a set of 7.5" wide and +50 offset wheels will sit on an ep3 considering stock is 7" and +45?

This is a very good question which i will be finding out soon.

my wheels are 7.5 + 43 and 7.5 + 48 (a pair each obviously). i saw in HyperRev that +48 should fit alright. and i'd imagine +50 should be ok too.

but not 100% sure.

As far as i know +50 offset will fit ok into EP3 however Personally for me, i still prefer +42 offset if i am goin to buy a new set of rims

In terms of the look, +42 will place the rims just nice under the fender whereas +50 will push the rims further inside the fender. Well, Unless you are goin to lower the car, +50 is a better choice. :)

typercivic
15-05-2008, 11:00 PM
how will lowering affect it? I am going to lower it soon by about 20-25mm front and rear.

I believe part of your question has been answered by "chi" in the previous post.

Anyway, when you lower a honda car, the rear camber will adjust by a certain degrees depending how low your car is.

when you have lower offset there will be more risk your tyres/rims will rub the inner fender guards. but i think 20-25mm will not cause any problem assuming you are using >+42 offset for the wheels and also considering the stiffness of the stock suspension EP3 has

Philip Lee
16-05-2008, 10:39 AM
if you have a lower + offset number, the chance of rubbing fender is higher.

if you have a higher + offset number, the chance of rubbing from the inside is higher.

to reduce the chance of rubbing fender, put more -ve camber on but the inside of the tyre wears out faster (depending on how you drive).

ps. typercivic, what sort of wheels are you looking at buying??

just some tin s-techs through w.a suspensions, known the guys there for years so they look after me except they have to come ex japan so it will take a while. if your interested I can pass you their details and who to speak to when your ready.

I heard that H&R or Eibach springs (pro kit) on EP3 go very nice, when combaind with some swaybars, very good combo for street and some track work, does simular work to mugen suspension for EP3 (mugen suspension is around $1600 and those springs around $500), lots of guys in europe use those sort of combos and feedback is pretty good

IMHO would be better to just wait and replace the whole lot with coilovers...saves you having to pay for labour twice...

I wouldnt be able to compare how the handling is compared to the standard suspension as ive never driven with it stock but from what i can feel the car sits perfectly flat (im sure there wouldnt be much roll with standard too) and just because they are fully adjustable (height, damper etc.) i can change the settings in very little time to suit how i drive.

Nepolian
16-05-2008, 07:55 PM
I have Spoon springs with std shocks. Only about 10-15mm drop and a little stiffer.

I think this would do for me on the road. Coilover IMO is overkill if it is a daily and occasional track. EP stock is very able, but thats just me :)

Money better spent elsewhere. But everyone does things differently tho!

Enjoy it, EP3 is good regardless of what is done!

Any suggestion for Coilover? i know Buddyclub has a good price. i need some input.

I think BC would be one of the best for EP3 since they use them as their race cars (I would assume that it would give them lots of feedback about EP3 so they could make all the parts better), but lots of other brands are there as well, Tein, Tanabe, Cusco Zero all with simular pricing

I've had a friend fit DC5R coilvoers on an EP3R.

You need to use DC5R tie rod ends and you need to shave some of the metal bushings as the DC5R tie rod ends and bushes are larger than EP3R.

You could, but if you can pick up a good used set of DC5R ones for half the price of a new EP3 one , it might be a good choice.
