hey guys... dunno if anyone has the same problem... my driver side 'auto' power window doesn't do auto anymore after i unplug the battery for about an hour and plug it back again... is there a solution for this?

Yeah mine does that sometimes aswell. Eventually after awhile it goes back to normal again.

The plastic splash guard are usually removed!

I'm not a believer of rolling guards for the simple reason that you can always select the correct wheel/tyres for the car.

I stand my statement......cause if want a car like ours and is worried about fuel consumption and tyre wear etc......

You probably bought the wrong car!

Phil! You can sit the front wheel pretty close to the guards (less than 1 finger gap). I have 17x7.5 +30 with 1.2 deg camber and it doesn't rub!

My ep3 has been making some sort of rattling noise for the past week or two.
i tried to listen to where the sound was coming from and it seemed like from under the car where the headers sit. so i jacked up the car and the sound was stronger ontop, then underneath. The sound is coming from the pulley area, where on the chain there are brown marks, i'm assuming it is the water pump leaking. Has anyone had this problem? How can i fix this??

thanks guys :)

I don't think its the engine mount, as the engine doesnt really rock, the engine still feels like its in a very stable position when revving... And it looks like its still in good con. no leaking whatso ever

EP3 brothers enjoy!..hehe

www.supergt.com.hk -->select Engrish (if you can't read chinese) and you're all good.

I spoke to these guys when I was there and they seem very helpful. They sell both OEM and aftermarket and ship items to Australia regularly.

They suggested that if we wish to buy stuff from them, best to try group buy and package into a cubic crate. 1 cubic crate ~=$230AUD.

Yeah, those are just the OEM shadow chrome pre FL headlights.

They will plug straight in to a pre FL car. The FL lights will need additional installation steps because the wiring was changed during the facelift so you wouldn't have a high beam without redoing the circuit!

Yes.. There are brown marks now appearing under the hood. So took my car to mechanic today and he said most likely be able to get my new water pump and replaced on Wednesday.. Looks like I can't go winton on Tuesday(melboure cup day!!)

Is it advicable that I don't vtec my car to hard, until replaced? Since there are leaks does that mean it's easier to dry up? Do I need to keep checking there's enough water in it?

Sorry bout the questions, pretty noob..:)

dude, you should have checked the package to see if it fits before you sprayed it. You need to be aware that all replica parts for any car may not be 100% fit or fit at all, so best to check beforehand. :)

Just check where it does not fit and maybe get the painter to cut or modify it a bit to fit, if it's for prefacelift.

Btw, is that a small autobot badge you have on back of your car there?...that's cool!...You should see mine...LOL... :D

Oooh that did the trick for the window. TY :) I'll do some investigating with regards to the air intake.

While our car is very good, it is also very pricey for what it is.

At ~28k on the road, that puts us in the same price range as Evo's up to an Evo 8, STi's (bug eye) any S15, and many other things. Hell, for the money you could buy TWO R32 GTRs.

Whats your point? Why don't you have a GTR? Why am I not driving around in a EVO 8? Why do people spend 20g's on an EG? Why did my mum but a Camry when she could have bought a STI for the same price?

Just remember that not so long ago, people paid nearly 50ks for a DC5S and 44k's for DC2R's........why when they could have bought a WRX or Holden V8 which are quicker for the same price?

For me I wanted something thats not too old and not going to depreciate as much as those cars will; I believe that because our car is P plate friendly (and because its the only JDM car Australia will see apart from private imports), it'll hold its value close to what we pay now. The car also has a well set up chassis and is still built around the idea that good handling and a light curb weight make for a highly effective package on the twisties.

For me, I wanted to experience one of the best FWD's, master it, then move onto something else. But for others who value straight line speed, sure they can choose their turbocharged cars. It's all about handling for me and it really delivers.

There are times where I doubted the car when I first got it, seriously wondering whether I had made the wrong decision but the car (mainly because with no camber, any kind of cornering creates positive camber relative to the road and therefore I was getting lots of understeer). But now, getting it set up right, it's great.

All that said, you have to admit, 12k for a GTR in good condition is a ridiculous deal no matter what.

I'm deciding btwn Tein SS & flex. Not too sure with SS as you can't change the setting but i've heard quality and ride is real good. How's the ride? Soft?

Philip Lee
04-11-2009, 02:58 PM
what do you mean about "you can't change the setting" on SS?

the only thing that Flex can adjust that SS can't is the length. With Flex you can keep the sussy travel while u adjust height but on SS when u adjust height, travel will reduce. however i can't lower too much as the mid pipe will scrap if i reduce further.

the other main diff is the spring rate, Flex is F8k/R10k while SS is F5k/R9k.

SS ride is good. half stiffness is close to stock and full soft is very soft (mine is JDM spec, not sure about Aust spec Teins).

So i think ordering from Honda would have to be my LAST LAST resort.

Definitely get the genuine one. I wasted a lot of time sourcing aftermarket primary O2 sensors which never worked. Robert from Hanny's in the end ordered me a genuine one and hey presto, the engine light disappeared. Quoting Robert, "Nothing beats genuine!".

WTF are you guys talking about? There is no O2 sensor on the intake, just an air temp sensor. The front one (primary) with the 4 wires is the most common to go. Most aftermarket race headers will trigger the secondary one.

If in doubt, just run diagnostic and it'll tell you which one

Something strange happened to my ep3 yesterday.
I went for a drive for about 5 mins in the 32degrees heat and when I parked my car I took they key out of the ignition. And my engine didn't turn off. All lights were on, like the seat belt and handbrake light. I put my key back in and turned it on and off and engine stayed on. Waited about 30 secs and then It turned off. Wth? Turbo timer??? I didn't even vtec it on the drive.. It happened twice, during the day, out of 5 drives. Like I couldn't even lock the car when engine was still running...

Has anyone witness this happen to their car, you know what it is??

Jibz
09-11-2009, 01:11 PM
My aftermarket alarm (Mongoose) has a turbo timer function, I thought about setting it but for most days, its not really needed so I haven't bothered. Make sure you haven't enabled that function of your alarm (to program mine, it involves turning ignition on and off about 8 times then pressing the unlock door button to enable it)

Other than that, I've never heard of, or experienced this. Let us know if you find out what caused it!

Can anyone explain to me the advantage of getting a aftermarket fanswitch and thermostat?

I understand they open at a lower temperature than stock to start cooling earlier, but if I'm on the track, won't I be at a higher temperature already and the stock ones would be 'open' anyway?

hmm wheel weight with the tire can vary wildly so ill bring a set of scales along next time i change. unless someone selling their rims would be able to weigh for us!

also, our flywheel is what, 4.5KG right? FL has a lighter flywheel than that too?

Would you guys recommend removing material from the stock flywheel, (like 2-300 grams) or not touch it at all and get a TODA flywheel if I want a lighter one?

Also, 12kg's is bloody heavy for our 17x7 rims! Damn, a CE28/TE37 is ~7kg for a 17x8.5 according to the wheel weight website!

Hmm....4.7kg is heavy? Stock AUDM DC5R/S are 7kg!

Why would you spend $500-600 for a 3.8-4.1kg flywheel and probably get nil difference in terms of performance? If you want to lose rotation mass....change the rims....

No point in comparing OEM rims to Racing forged rims? is there?

I hate my light flywheel on my FL. Every change must be super quick or the revs will drop down too much. On a steep hill there is no chance not using the hand brake and needs to rev to like 3000 or it'll still roll backwards. Traffic jam is not fun!!

I tried my fd's pre FL and it's much better. Honestly I won't bother replacing the flywheel.

out of curiosity what rims are you using, and what size?

8.5" width should be adequate to run a 235 section tire right? Some of my friends say running a wide tire over stock can mess with the balance of the car, can anyone comment on the driveability of the car after going to wider rims and tires?

Im assuming the extra lateral grip during cornering would encourage more negative camber settings to take advantage of it, which would in turn affect the feel of the car.

Because regardless of beliefs, the fact that it works remains true. :p

A lightweight flywheel is more cost effective than lightweight rims.
FWIW, the net result of either is similar improvements in lap times.
So why not do both…

My experience with my EP3 coupe (a DC5 :)) is that it is hard to have too much tyre width but tyre compound is significantly more important than width. I have used tyre widths between 205 and 275 and whilst there might have been a very slight decrease in steering feel with the wider tyres (this could possibly be attributed to a slight change in sidewall height), the wider tyres just have more lateral grip everywhere. A 235 certainly isn't excessive and I think it is a nice sized tyre for EP3/DC5. Try to use a 235/40 if you can.

EDIT: My 275/245 tyre combo was significantly faster than RE55s in stock sizes :).

You do know that I have based my statement on a EP3 flywheel and I still think that paying $500-600 to save 800-900 grams is still too much. George, I do understand where you’re coming from,
But to be frank, I think your argument about the weight is flawed.
Rather than look at just the actual weight loss in the flywheel itself.
Look at the inertia of the thing & where it is in relation to the engine & wheels.

The inertia of the flywheel is something the engine must overcome before it does anything else.
Any reduction in flywheel inertia (weight) is multiplied through the gearbox. Hence the effect being greater in lower gears
Now speaking from experience, I can tell you that will notice the difference in an EP3.
Using one of our flywheels, the difference is a positive change in the character of the car without negative side effect.
What should also be mentioned is that on standard cars, flywheels like ours can’t cause situations such as described by Philip Lee.
Problems as described generally only arise when lightweight flywheels & other engine parts are combined with incorrectly set overrun fuel cut, TPS & poor tuning.
But then again, Mr Lee isn’t talking about an EP3 either, rather lightweight flywheels in general.

Anyway, before you all go off the deep end…
Please… Look at it realistically…
The EP3 is very similar to the DC5 & even the CL9 in the driver train.
Is the EP3 really so special that a flywheel & clutch that works like a charm in the DC5 & CL9, is just so mismatched to the EP3?
Bare in mind the benefit in the other cars is widely known & without drivability issues.
& just to question your manhood…
My wife drove a DC5 Type S for a number of years with a lightweight flywheel, in heavy traffic everyday without any of the issues described.
Weird huh…

Cheers

Adrian
