lol why blame asians. must hav been someone on ozhonda then haha

the standard of driving here is shocking I must say. My bro in law's car had been hit n run twice outside of our place.

Sad to hear mugen. How bad is the bumper itself. Clips and stuff can be bought from dealers I guess.

Finally installed my 2nd hand window visors thanks to "pooface" I got to admit the design is a disappointment as opposed to the ek,dc and even dc5's due to they are stand alone clips to hold the visors in place. I should of bought 3m tapes instead of the ones i got.

the issues i have with these are:

1. deletion of high mount brake lights;
2. fitment. if these are for USDM EP3, apparently i read on some US forum that their rear hatch is slightly diff to ours (not 100% sure tho).

Don't get a evo7, from mates words, who owns a evo7 he says evo8 is alot better. Especially cause it is 6 speed. And alot faster. Well I tried stock 7 v ep3 on straight line ep3 was faster especially after 2nd gear. And evo8 v ep3 I found I was behind it most of time until toward end of 3rd gear I was progressing more closer to the 8. But yet driving skills matter the most

g3F
16-03-2010, 02:50 PM
just a newb question if i end up modding out my ep3. wat is the first thing i should be looking to do? im thinkin of upgrading my car in stages..

1: CAI (probs GruppeM or Injen if I'm tight for $$)
2: Cat back exhaust
3: ECU (K100 / 300?)
4: maybe a full toda system...a BIG maybe...

is that basically all thats needed for a EP3? other than spending massive amounts for a few gains after? also tell me if i got the order wrong since im prob retarded :)

cheers guys

M@lew
16-03-2010, 02:52 PM
ECU will give you the best gains but you'd want to do the other things first before you do that. So probably go CAI and then exhaust or both at the same time.

JohnO
16-03-2010, 02:52 PM
um id go header->exhaust or together. havent had a look at the cat but i think its a 3point boltholes.

Philip Lee
16-03-2010, 02:57 PM
i'd personally do it in stages:

1. get CAI then catback for sound and a little more go.

2. then i'll turn my attention to other areas like handling (tyre/wheel + sussy) and brakes (pads and rotors).

3. if u then want more go, i'd do header + ECU.

4. if u are a baller, full toda rebuilt.

i personally done 1 & 2 except rotors and i can't justify spending another $3-4k for no.3. i also got distracted and got other bits like HU/speakers, lower seat rails and other small bits an pieces lol

I've been in both Evo 7 & 8, im sure a 7 felt a bit quicker due to its gear ratio's both stock. It's only the boost that makes it fun to drive.

man i'd love to get a ride in your car just to see how much more performance you've been able to get out of it

the CAI lost a bit of low end torque but the catback made up for it and more.

sussy (Tein SS) got rid of the understeer and ride smoother than stock on uneven road but it doesn't like potholes.

brake pads felt better as the OEM pads are hopeless but there are still improvement in this area. the next step would be disc. can't justify calipers as i don't track my car.

Nepolian and Steve have more mods than me so u'll have a better idea of the potential of modded EP3.

I got gruppeM and rm01a catback, plus apexi vafc2, it's pretty powerfull and sounds very good, so far best 1/4mile time is 14.2@162km/h, lot's of people told me I should be able to get into mid to high 13s with better 60" time and bit of weight reduction.
So power wise EP3 is up there with lots of boosted cars, for example few evos on the night were getting high 13s and low 14s which is nothing special when you consider they are 4WD plus turbo hehe

Practice on driving.......Myself and Chubbysteve both got into 13.9's with just SRI and catback....stock everything else!

hmm i ran a best of 14.6 at WSID completely stock.. im pretty sure your car would be capable of a better time than that?

Again.....practice ray

i remember someone one said that they used aftermarket kit to fix their central locking when it failed. is that true? i read up 40+ page but can't find it but i seems to recall reading this.

i have Fujita which is very similar to the Injen and we didn't need to drill anything like the DC5 but we still need to cut some plastic which i sealed up with duct tape.

if u dun want to cut and drill, keep the Mugen cos u still need to cut and drill while fitting the Gruppe M.

if you want to improve your intake, maybe get a mugen grill as it has a hole for intake.

Hello someone please help me
i found these semi slicks, they are 225/45/17 and some of my friends say that they will hit the guards alot, only 40 will fit for 225 wide tyres. can someone help? im confused cause im running 215/45/17 and i dont know whats the difference. these are for stockies too..

Philip Lee
19-03-2010, 03:20 PM
225/45/17 on stockies if not lowered should be fine.

225 refers the width of the tyre. it has increased by 10mm from 215. there are still plenty of room on stock wheel but the tyres will be ballooned slightly.

also your friend is not correct regarding 225 would fit on 40 and not 45. 40 is the aspect ratio being the height of the side wall. 225/45 will have a taller side wall than a 225/40 which means the overall diameter will be bigger and your speedo will run slightly faster. obviously 225/45 will scrub slightly earlier than 225/40 but without trying both, it will hard to tell. however if 225/40 srubs then 225/45 will definitely scrub.

i also assume u don't have any spacers.

ok thanks phil. Yeah when I said, they said it wouldn't fit was that meaning it will scrub. I'm running 215/45/17 street tyres and I have has a few scrubbings on track. Also they claimed that the "45" in 215 and 225 is different, in the way which 225 sidewall is bigger.
Also last time I went track day I ran 215/45/17, and the scrubbing was solvable by adjust more camber to the front, that time I had no camber.
Sorry if I am confusing, because I'm quite confused my self.

If u scrub on 215/45/17 then u are not running stock wheel or have spacer.

45 on a 225 has higher side wall than on 215. And if u scrub on 215 then u will scrub on 225 whether 45 or 40.

More -ve camber will fix it up to an extend.

Hi guys. I am new to the forum so please forgive me for asking any silly question.
I have recently bought a 2002 EP3 and found some problems this morning when i was driving to work.

There was a griding / squeaky sound (dont really know how to decribe it exaclty) when i steer. It only happen during low speed (below 30km/h), mostly when i was parking. I tried keep turning in a constant speed (5km/h) and the disturbing sound keeps going.

I have heard that there is a common issue on EP3s with the steering rack. Will that be the problem in this case?

Also i will try posting a video or a record of that sound tomorrow.

Thanks

I have heard that there is a common issue on EP3s with the steering rack. Will that be the problem in this case?

Also i will try posting a video or a record of that sound tomorrow.

Thanks

in this case yes it is ur steering rack, if ur in syd i think supersteve went to hannys and got it fixed and all sweet for him, i diy'd it and fixed it up myself just a lil bit of greese to go into the sttering rack should fix it up, common issue, honda really should of thought more when it came to this cause dc5's sometimes get this problem

Hey guys

Could you tell which O'briens you rang for the windscreen. Phone number would be great. I tried our local branch...FAIL.

Why must things be so hard when you live in the middle of nowhere

I'll try and get the number for you tonight or Steve could help you out since I got the windscreen from the same supplier.

anyone installed master cylinder brake stopper?

in case you don't know what it is, it is something like this:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c6/Johnny00000/bits083.jpg

i have fitted some on my last car and it was very good and i want to get them for the EP3. the link above is made by a UK shop called Tegiwa. i wonder if there are other brands that make these stuff for our cars. (Cusco doesn't make one for the EP3).

Quite a bit. The pedal is much firmer and consistent.

This part is 28 pounds shipped here (roughly aud$50). So quite cheapish and I think it's very good value for money.

But I just wonder if there are other alternatives. If not I'll go ahead.

Too wide even with camber and rolled guards. 7.5-8 inch and 30 offset max IMO... otherwise it'd be too difficult to manage and would have to run big camber.

I have tried 17x8 35 offset and it sits just right!

it seems very difficult to find a cai online, not through a local store, for a good price. it has to be ep3 specific right? i cant go through the states for a tsx, standard ep3, or dc5 intake right?

does the american ep3 intake fit, i think they run a k20a3 - and i imagine the direction of the pipe to the front would be the same since it's the same chassis-ish .. but would it connect in to the throttle body as per normal??

I have the Fujita CAI and afaik they only make 1 version for EP3.

i think Injen is the same (ie. only 1 model for EP3).

mine fit fine, no mod to the CAI kit at all. all bolt on and play.

DC5 CAI won't fit our car (except probably the Mugen airbox).

the us ep3 intakes are straight fit man, i bought mine off yonas at JDMyard, saves u the trouble of the wait and i think its 480 now shipped, which is pretty good price or u could get one from the states for about 400 shipped but u gotto wait like 10 working days or so but up to u, u could try using the AEM ones, i heard there pretty good

Spoon or tein to keep it reasonably comfortable! Most if not all coil overs will cause harder ride.
