Hey guys, I just had my Toda Cat-Back Exhaust fitted today and it's making a strange noise near the mid-section. Apparently, the exhaust is rattling against the underbelly of the car.

Have you guys heard of this issue previously and/or any solutions to it?

Nope, but quite common with EP and DC's. Just get some inserts and use the rears. Cheap as!

I'm not quite sure that's the problem.. apparently the knocking sound was from the piping hitting the underbelly.

I don't want to fork out money for new stiffer mounts and get the same result :S

also isnt the rear mount suppose to be the strongest mount out of the 4 since its pretty hard to change?

Hey guys,

Anyone changed their diff oil yet?

A friend who's got an EP3 swears by using REDLINE gear box oil opposed to the standard MTF... Anyone tried any variations of different oils?

Thanks guys

I didnt change to stiffer mounts on my EP3, I run Toda extractor and catback. no vibration whatsoever, but I did create some custom hangers tho.

My DC5R on the other hand, rattling like crazy during heavy rain.

Not really. The front mount is worse. Virtually no room. I've seen it done. Too close to the radiator and even dropping the sub frame, it still look like a giving birth experience.

Hi everyone! :D

I'm considering buying an EP3R at the end of the year!

What are some things I should look out for with the EP3R in particular? Currently there's one for sale up here in QLD at the moment, but I'm prepared to travel interstate for an immaculate one.

What's the average price I should be aiming for?

Philip Lee

hi mate,

the one in QLD is the silver one on Carsales?

there are not many cars up here so be prepared to travel. in terms of price it's hard to say so far in advance.

just a ballpark, a pre facelift shouldn't be more than $20k unless it's in top condition with geninue very very low kays. currently most pre-FL go between 15 - 20k, depending on condition and mods.

facelift will likely be still over $20k.

Yeah that's the 2005 FL silver one up here for $24k, but there's also a white PFL up on the Sunshine Coast with just under 100,000k's on it asking just under $20k.

I don't really want to spend much over $18k, but at the same time I want something very clean and preferably stock ofcourse (but who doesn't? :)) So I guess it's jus a matter of compromise.

Is there anything with the EP3 that I need to look out for when inspecting them? Also apart from the basic bumper/light changes, are there any major difference between the PFL/FL models?

And final question, what do you guys pay for insurance on your cars?

Sorry for the massive amount of noob questions, i've spent the last 3 years around eg's and dc2's and can tell you anything you wanna know about them lol but the EP3/K20 range is all new to me!

Thanks heaps fellas.

Apart from the usual things you check on a used car, check for:

- Steering rack noise (remedy is just to grease it up so not too big a problem)
- Broken engine mounts

Apart from those, there are no major problems as long as the car is maintained correctly.

ah well. As mentioned before on this thread. The fact the turnover of the ep3 is so high nowadays, it rapidly devalues the ep3 in the market.

Soon enough it'll worth shit all like the typical nissan skyline, siliva and etc thanks to the high turnover.

I've heard too many stories of p-platers selling off to move on to turbo after they get their fulls. And then it gets sold to another p-plater. It becomes a never ending cycle.

A few p-platers told me I should go turbo because I got my fulls. It's all too typical. I ain't jumping into that band wagon. LOL

Hey guys can you use the same spark plugs and air filter as the DC5 Type R in an EP3

Yes & yes

Try the 3A Racing pod filter if you want... it drops straight into the OEM airbox... noticable gains over the Pipercross and Trusts OEM replacement ones I had in previously.

EP3TYPER
23-05-2011, 02:47 PM
3A pod filter is a different shape to the OEM isn't it? OEM is more like a Cylinder and 3A is the cone shape isnt it?

no - the cone shape is a generic shape for all " pod" filters. This is to (hopefully) maximise surface area and air flow.

think you can just take the whole airbox out and replace it with the cone however a "exposed" filter is considered illegal for " flammable hazards" as the coppa says! gotta close that shit up.

Damn. Are you using ESMM on the bottom 2 mounts? My top engine mounts are in good shape since I put the ESMM's into the car shortly after I got it, almost 2 years ago now.

I've read that there can be alot of stress (that could result in cracking) on the Kiddracing header (or any other aftermarket header without flex pipes if we're not running some kind of stiffer engine mount or torque damper to reduce the movement of the engine.

So i just picked up my right hand side one from honda - $72...turns out they quoted much higher than what it really was

Are the part numbers the same that RP.13 quotes above? If not, what where the numbers you ordered?

I can't tell you what the part numbers were exactly, but they look similar / familiar so I'm going to say yes.

I've got the invoice in the car, I'll take a look after work

Part number is the same as the one above - seems like they ordered in a left hand side one for me though - doesnt seem to matter coz it fits?

Sweet, I'll head down to a dealer soon and see what sort of figure I get quoted.

guys i need help/advice. had my steering rack greased today but the mech forgot to replug the electric ps plugs and turned the car on, eps light stayed on and so replugged the clips however the eps light wouldnt go away after another start up. pulled out the diagnostics tools but wasnt anyhelp after continuous code clearing... reseted the car still wouldnt fix the problem. my gruppe m aluminium heat shield was scrubbing against a few cables and started to rub into afew of them after removing everything. not sure whats left to do to fix the eps...can barely drive the car without power steering... George? Ben?

I would just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and give it another go. Obviously double check all connections and make sure its not something simple, like plus wrong way round etc...

I'd say the ecu probably picked up the initial 'no eps' as it was disconnected!

Thanks George i'll try resetting the battery again, see how it goes. As for the burnt plastic behind my gruppe m's heat shield could that be a possibility? since the whole wiring bundle was scrubbing against the heat shield and i could see residue left behind.

Nah, it would have to rub through two wires and short them. If I remember, the wires are quite think and I dont think it would have cut through.

Do I need to unplug the red terminal too? or would negative be sufficient?

no good =/ left it dc for 5mins, could hear a sound like a faint beep noise when i turn the wheel left and right without my keys in the ignition and not the tyre rubbing the ground.

No good George :( taking it back to mechanics tmr, might give good performance and hannys a call and see what they can do about it too. car drives worse than a k24 swap eg without p/s...

I was just thinking! When you turn the ignition on, does the EPS light show like previously? Have you checked the fuse for the eps?

The EPS light stays on when the ignition's on, fuse as in the plugs for the eps? if so they seem to be ok, clips in right.

There is a eps specific fuse in the engine bay I believe. Have a look! eps light on dash is sent by the ecu (therefore is working, however you can discount mecanical things such as ill fitted plugs, do they fit only one way? and fuses!

My gf's Suzuki Swift has no power steering. Trying to park that thing is a massive workout. No need for gym membership, just take power-steering out of your car.

JohnO
06-06-2011, 07:26 PM
i was surprised to actually park without it but was crooked, its just a mission to drive without power steering.

bennjamin

EPS isnt constant like hydraulic power steering - some may notice torque steer at times and sometimes over powering on the steering !

JohnO
06-06-2011, 09:52 PM
is it just our cars with the eps? or does the dc5 have it too?

Nepolian

DC5R does not use EPS. FD Sport/FN2R use EPS so see if any similar problems existed with those cars.

Hey guys, just a quick question about the Mugen grille. Do you paint the piece where the Mugen badge sits black to hide it?
