Yes thats what I mean

nowadays type R are attractive to P platers so many get abused as a 1st or 2nd car till they get off P and buy a proper sport car or turbo

Very true. I think its because of this it makes it even harder to find a good idea quality one. If the car is well looked after it just means it's much easier to sell.

Just cause its type r doesn't mean it has to be thrashed lol. Don't know some p plater's lol.

Not all P-platers thrash and abuse their cars, I got my P-plates 5 days ago and I've owned my EP3 for about 4 months now and it's seen two services, washed and polished weekly. Of course I like to hit vtec here and there but other then that I treat my car as it were my girlfriend.

recently I purchased some plug leads from ebay for an evo 1 and from FITZRACE

the leads appear to be a knock off and are made by Arospeed{not AEROSPEED} and dont have the right angle plug end at the coil pack end as the genuine lead does. even though the ones on the ebay picture did...so because the wire is pointing vertical when plugged into the coil pack, the lead hits the bonett BEFORE it closes. The pressure applied from the fully closed bonett will eventually crack the insulation and the lead will short out.

Whilst after some days of pictures and emails I was offered a refund by the seller FITZRACE. I am just annoyed enough by the crap that transpired to refused the 83 bucks and keep the leads to show people how badly they fit.

yes this is a rant...but since the seller implies mine is the only sent that they have sold where he has had a complaint. I am guessing there wont be a design change.

I've got solid (aluminum) shifter cable bushings and they made shifting feel more positive and solid. They aren't hybrid racing but pretty much the same thing. I didn't really notice a difference with the shifter cable bushings tho, unless your oem ones are all worn out.

Just got a CEL for a failing primary o2 sensor. ordered a new one, Denso part no. 234-9005. Just wondering, does a CEL cause the car to run differently?

Well, the main purpose of the oxygen sensor is work out the air-to fuel ratio. In effect the ECU uses that ratio to determine the amount fuel trim required to maintain a ratio that provides good power, fuel economy and allow the cat to work properly for clean emissions.

What happens when this no longer work? The ecu is not able to determine accurately what fuel trim is required, so on the safe side the ECU will most likely provide a richer fuel mixture than it normally does and hence poor fuel economy and dirty emissions due to high count of carbon.

When cruising on constant speed or driving on light acceleration, you may feel very subtle judder with your car. That's because the ECU is trying operate in a closed loop state which means it is tapping into the oxygen sensor that has failed.

However, on hard acceleration or WOT (wide open throttle), a failed oxygen sensor is irrelevant because the ECU ignores the sensor by default relies a pre-programmed fuel map to manage the fuel on your car.

In my opinion if you want the best fuel economy, I would to use the original Honda part rather than sourcing a denso one. Reason is because you're not 100% sure if the sensor response characteristics is identical to that of the Honda sensor. Yes the Honda sensor maybe made from the same manufacturer and Denso is good enough get rid of the CEL based on reports from people already using the aftermarket denso sensor. However, based on that you can't accurately conclude it will perform the same as the Honda sensor.

I think the only accurate way to determine if they are same part is to hook the sensors up to an oscilloscope, blast the sensor with metered oxygen gas and compare the voltage curve to each other. Or if a Honda engineer can formally confirm that they
use exact same sensor as the aftermarket denso sensor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, my car did feel like it's going to stall for a sec when I come to a stop or in stop and go traffic but this was before the cel came on, tho I had always thought it had to do with the idle air control sensor. I don't see a difference in fuel economy or performance tho. Installed the new denso sensor and cel is now gone :) both oem and denso look very identical, incl the wire colors

$320 for a brand new one shipped unpainted, probably $400 - $450 all together painted.

I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a used one.

Don't think you'd be able to get a Mugen EP3 lip painted for that price though. Requires a lot more paint than regular lips due to the undertray. Though most replicas don't have the undertray.

Went for an oil change and found that 5L bottle of oil didn't even fill the dip stick halfway. I thought the engine oil capacity was a little less than 5L? Car is not leaking or burning oil at all, he said it might be the way my car is lowered, making it drain out more oil each change..

Nope, no oil cooler, but speaking of oil capacity, how much oil comes out when I remove the oil filter? Need to replace my oil pressure sender and install oil temp gauge on the sandwich plate. If it's too much, I might just do it in my next service since it could get messy as the filter is fairly confined.

ripped seats, worn gear knob, condition of trims. i found it hard to believe the car had 83000km. did he provide dereg or auction papers?

the parts that actually look new are replacable items. he was willing to sell for around 14k on road. it costs more than that to import, comply and register a car.

it costs half as much to buy a shitty one and replace panels and items, wind the kms back and give it a detail to sell

Also, after a tune, should be there any knocking at all? been reading that a little is possible and ok but then also read that any knocking is not acceptable? last thing i'd want is to pay heaps of money just to prematurely destroy my engine lol

You'll most likely need to bash out the radiator support to get it to fit.

Is an rbc manifold worth it tho? I'll be getting kpro this week so I thought maybe it might be worth getting before a tune. But I'm also considering a new exhaust. What are the gains going from 2.25 inch to 2.5 inch vs getting a RBC?

Gains will be seen when upgraded in conjuction with with a Kpro, as well as a 70mm throttle body.

In regards to exhaust sizing, go to a 2.75in or 3in exhaust for best power and torque gains

Vvvtec

RBC is definitely worth it, just depends on whether or not you are willing to make it fit. Ultimately if you are going to the lengths to get it tuned, you want an RBC + minimum 2.5" exhaust. What header are you using? Thats where the real gains are...

Headers are plm, which i think might be leaking around the slip joint. Money is restriction :( there's a guy selling a brand new rbc manifold, modificated to be a straight swap for the ep3 and dc5 engines.

To make it fit on the ep3 there was an installation guide in his ad where he just undid the front support bolts and pushed it forward to make more space then redrilled the holes to for the bolt to go back on. Here it is http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/151091894071?redirect=mobile

He rabbles on alot about it lol but I'm deciding to get one or the other. Just wanted to see what would net greater gains by itself after a tune. I was considering 3" exhaust but every 3" I've heard sounds too loud and after a certain rpm it don't sound nice to my ears j's racing 70rr for example. Apparently lose some power too due to less back pressure or something :S I might get exhaust custom made by a good shop tho.

I pieced mine together myself, using a Vibrant resonator and muffler, and 200cell metal cat. 3" mandrel bent stainless piping. All up together it was ~$1k in total including all fabrication labour and materials.

Sadly I need to sell it but so don't want to :( Have you guys got any ideas of good places to advertise such cars besides on here obviously? I have an interested buyer but she needs to sell her 8th Gen Type R first. I really want it to go to a good home and preferably to a Honda enthusiast. My family all have Honda's and we LOVE them, mum has an Accord and dad has a NSX Type R and I have the EP3 Type R. What do you all like the most about your EP3?

I've done some dodgy iPhone passenger timings, nothing to serious but I get times from 5.8 - 6.3 seconds; depending on how well I launch.

Anyone getting better times?

Also how do our EP3's go against the more recognized sports cars such as EVO 7/8's, 06 WRX STI's, R34 GTR in terms of 0-100 KM/H?

Nowhere close... They're all Sub 5secs...

They can do sub 5secs consistently, doubt most can do consistent low 6secs with CTR...

Has anyone installed a tow hook/strap on their front? I'm trying to figure where to mount and looking at the front bumper support it doesn't seem very strong... not too keen on a tow hook sticking out the bumper. At least with a tow strap i can tuck and hide it away.

Haha thanks boss. It is pretty sleeper lol, the way i love it. Even with the 3inch exhaust I dont get any attention in it

Tbh, inside the car the noise is actually quiet pleasant and not that loud. For reference, ive still got the oem head unit and speakers in the car (from 1998 lol) and I can listen to my music comfortably and any speed, apart from WOT.

Keep in mind I have a ASP header that has a megaphone, which is quiet noisy.

Outside the car however, yes it is loud. Ive let a good mate of mine thrash my car around the block (~500+ metres away) and the engine note it loud, very loud. I actually could not belive how loud the noise was, since in the car its so much quieter.

I got mine made up at right price on moss st.

225 may scrub and make car sit too high, but 215 might look slightly stretched. Opinions?

im on 17x8 +35 and on 215/45 and there is tiny bit of stretch, my fronts hit the upper plastic guard if theres a dip, and my rears poke out a tiny bit (sorta mexiflush lol gonna run a little more camber in the back). I am lowered with about 1 1/2 finger gap. I'd imagine if i went 225/45 i'd have some issues.

I had 7.5" and you could barely notice any stretch. There shouldn't be much problem with stock height, but you'll probs need to run some camber in the rear and roll the guards when you start dropping. The fronts are a little more forgiving. As for 225, it shouldn't make your car sit any higher, its just the width not the tyre profile.

charliebrown
13-08-2013, 11:51 AM
225/45 increases diameter a few mm over 215/45. 45 is a percentage of the width. worried itll be mexi as fuk without a drop

But the whole point of using a broker is that you don't have to find the cars!

Go for Todd's tie rods/steering arms. Its better for wheel alignment since it is adjustable. Helps with the toe and lower camber settings.

Won't be needing more camber adjustment anytime soon as it's mostly a street driven car so nothing too aggressive. Tho i'm looking to fix or reduce the horrendous bump steer and tracking i've been getting aswell as the unhealthy looking tie rod angles. Would the todd tie rods help?

Been also looking at the inverted tie rod ends on clubrsx, but not too sure on the durability of the spherical joint that has no boot, and being subjected to all elements.

Changing the tie rods will make a bigger difference in your case. I haven't seen too many good aftermarket ones. Dedy from Top One recommend the ones on ClubRSX though. He said they were good quality.

I can't help you with bump steer. My current settings are way too aggressive lol. You can make your toe more neutral and it will help with the issue

and

http://forum.clubitr.com.au/showthread.php?10257-Bump-steer-problem-in-DC5R

I'm not sure how entirely accurate the suspension modelling is, but Tom (ChargeR) seems to agree that inverted tie rod ends and steering bracket relocation do the opposite of what you want them to do.

Of course, what camber you have dialled in through your top hats will also affect how the suspension behaves when you drive.

Anyhow, worth a read before forking out some money for parts :D

Could be a case of worn motor mounts. Check your drivers side, trans and rear mounts for any cracks or damage on the mounts. If they are damaged, its a good excuse to upgrade to hasports if you haven't already
