Look for scrapes and signs of damage from dropping the bike, if possible take the engine bolt off and see if the frame is still in line with the engine after u take it out, Tyres are expensive so get one with good tyres, make sure it's reving freeley and dosnt have flat spots(spark plugs)
Oh and I just bought a cbr250 for 1k... Needs plugs but still rides :)
pwoar thats cheap
we are shoppin for one of these at the moment

Yeah seen heaps of them in the city, anyone got a diy cbr250 service thread?
whats up with the RVF 400 getting taken off LAMS???
dont want to buy one & lose a lot of cash or have to sell it to buy a smaller bike. that would be bullshit! they should at least give a warning.
Just buy a cbr250 and work it... Fast enough IMO
HI all,
I just got my L license and wanting to get the decent learner bike which I commute to work daily for arround 25kms each way.
Looking for the options , I am tossing up between :
Hyo 250gt - cheaper / looks good / not sure about the history of its realiability
CBR 125r - cheap petrol consumption / fairing / easy to manouver / its honda so I assumed it wont have reliability issue and good value
VTR250 - love this one , pretty much the same like hyo but its honda. The only things the asking price normally above my budget $5000 with high Kms. I couldnt find it widely available.
Can anyone share what is the market price for the vtr 250 ? how much do you think the rego and/or insurance price?
Does anyone have personal experience on this bike ?
Thx guys.
Vtr 250 is a nice looking commuter - around 3-4k seems the norm. Get one and put a muffler the v twin is nice avoid a cbr250r or rr , loud overrated old overpriced bikes !
It's very hard to found the decent vtr250 for under $4000.
Do you know the 2nd hand dealer who kept the vtr?
Actually I found one ads in gumtree wanna sell unregistered black vtr for $2600,what do u reckon?
well, why is it unregistered?
He said that didn't have the time to ride anymore so he left the bike unregistered.
My gut feeling that something wrong with the bike.
Depends how long ago rego ran out...
Dont buy the first bike you see, and dont buy a bike you cant try out by riding
Also dont get a Hyosung unless its an EFI, a lot of older problems were rectified when EFI model was released recently
hey guys what do you think of the kawas 250r's ? since its a honda forum it probably should be like a cb400 or 250cbr/rr. budget isnt really a problem getting a bike towards end of the year still saving for it all, just what strikes me is that for a 2010 model the speedo isnt electric like the zx6r or zx10r or any other new bike. Ive test ridden my mates cb250rr felt tighter and a ninja and it feels so much more relaxed. It will be a daily ride to unsw
The Ninja 250r is basically an ex250 (20 year old bike) with new panels, thats about it... I wouldnt pay the extra money for it, id go and get a cheap 250 if for a short while or a 400 if planning on keeping it longer and going with that until fulls. Its plus is that it is lighter, probably easier on the arse and good on fuel. Downside is it wont get you away from danger as quick as you'd like it to, as its just a nugget. Oh and ive heard simply dropping it may cause a write off...
Only small capacity bike ive seen with a digital display is the Aprilia RS125, remember these only started coming out this century and most learner bikes are incarnations of pre 90's models...
Im guessing you're after a sports ride
How the EFI work in the hyo bike?
I also noticed that you can get the 650gt under LAM, providing it was restricted.how can i tell if the bike had been derestricted?
Pricewise between 250 and 650 is very minimal so it might be more sensible to get the 650, any thought ?
Ta
i say get the 600 ride around slow till u get the hang of it then u can ride normal just dont be dumb on the 600 then u should be fine, also another thing when u use to your bike dont try to be hero and u should be find i regret buying a 250 T_T so hard to sell lol.... as long as your in leather =D
EFI is just electronic fuel injection - they fixed up other issues when they released the EFI models in 2009...
Restricted wise, I read the pre-2009 model there is a carby slide with a hole drilled in it... im guessing the EFI has a replaced ecu, which would have a tag around it to prevent unauthorised tampering... you would have to go to a hyosung dealer to have them change this... call them up and ask what teh damage is before you buy one
Also, its a good bike but its heavy, and its tall. Its 210kg dry, if you are short you may have a problem
the weight shouldnt be problem for me - being 6'5'' and 90kg should be able to handle the bike comfortably.
So probably wouldnt be good idea to get any pre-2009 Hyo since it might have problem.
Do you know what is the normal service price for the bike , let says Hyosung ?
thx u.
i got a cbr 250rr
http://www.bikepoint.com.au/reviews/...ki-gs500-14237
Another consideration GS 500 suzuki, saw one selling for $3600 in gumtree.
Not sure about the GS500, $3500 sounds really cheap are you sure its the newer F model?
Servicing should be cheaper on the EFI model, less time needed to tune
Check here for a comparison between the two bikes...

... this might answer your questions... maybe go for 07+ model

Do you know what is the typical milage for the 1999 bike?
anyone selling bikes? pm me
me n my frends going for our learners in 2 weeks time
so we will buy bikes around that time
thanks =]
ps what u guys think about cbr250rr wit targa kit on it =D
cbrr with a tyga kit looks awesome(repsol scheme) and thats about it still rides like any other rr =)
yeah i hate that 2 circle brake light lol
ok can u giv me more detail :)
we need about 3 - 4 bikes all together :D
how bout rvf400?
howbout yzf r125?
Haha the R125...
Imagine the R6 was a proffessional soccer player which plays for Man United...
... Its older brother, the R1, is a pro quarterback and has just won the Superbowl Playoffs...
... Meanwhile, back at home, younger brother R125 has been locked away in a basement with an xbox and fed rations of spam...
It fails in all aspects of life, except for failing... This goes for the CBR125 and the upcoming GSXR125 as well... I'd rather ride a Vespa...
if you gona get anything under 250cc, dont even bother unless its a 2stroke
the NSR150 is prob good, i think thats a 2stroke, sounds like one, and soudns awesome, lol
the aprilia 125 sounds great too, also a 2 stroke, never ridden a 2 stroke, but ive heard they are meant to be quite fun
i guess rvf400 wit tyga kit is the way to go lol
lol you and your tyga kits
the owners of bikes with tyga kits usually believe their bike is made of gold
and the prices reflect that....
ive seen tyga kitted 1988 grey cbr250 import with high kms going for 7k, ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ****ING DREAMERS
lol true but tyga kit make the bike looks abit better =]
Cbr 250s ( r and rrs ) are like eg civics - almost every single one has had an accident or the clock wound back. A learner/ p plater special basically. If you can fine one for what they are
worth (1.5-2k for a cbr250r or a touch more for a rr) then why not
for your l and p plate period. Pretty good daily to learn the dynamics of a bike. Just don't jump from a 250 to a 1000 as soon as you get fulls you will fall to " hero " syndrome and fall off while riding with just shorts and a t shirt on and look like a bleeding douche.
I am on my ps , got a cb400 ( same power/speed as a rvf400) and it's a better place to start to get used to a larger weighted and sized bike.
Haha more like a dead douche... or a douche that ends up on Youtube with a billion people laughing at you twisting the throttle off a stop start like a 250cc... :p
Any 400cc+ LAMS bike will get you through the whole L's/P's period without the need to change
Wise words... "Brackets? What brackets? This bike never had fairing brackets there"... Haha
so i assume better get rvf400 if its in good condition or rs125 even tho its slower but its a newer bike?
rs125 is pretty hot
but ive never ridden a 2stroke bike
i reckon though they would be pretty fun, a bit more unpredictable than ur average 250 four stroke
and sound pretty fkn awesome
Every imports has a history it all depends on how the bike fell. I was planning on tyga kiting mine if i scratch it or did a little drop but I didnt.
But to answer your question if a RFV400 has a tyga kit on you should ask yourself why does he/she have the kit on in the first place looks or been dropped.
Its easy to see if you look for the correct things, on an RVF400, if there are no small dragger pieces under the foot pegs, it coule be a sign of a drop, same goes for the lower fairing fixing points, there are small L shaped brackets that hang off the chassis and hold the fairings more securely, most RVF400's would be missing these. Other tell-tale signs of previous accident history are aftermarket bar ends, aftermarket brake/clutch levers, footpegs, and obviously the aftermarket fairings.
If anybody tells you that they changed the RVF panels to Tyga panels only because it looked better, and they dont have the original panels to proove this, its obvious they have had an accident. Dont forget, original RVF panels cost 4x the price of Tyga equivalents new. Finding second hand ones, well good luck with that... I had to import RHS panels last year for my one which set me back around $500 just for the RHS mid/lower panel and these werent perfect.
End of the day, most of these bikes are 15+ years old, and finding one that hasnt been dropped is going to be very very rare. On the flipside, these bikes (CBR250/RVF400) were built a lot stronger than the plastic shit available nowdays (Ninja 250R), so if they are dropped, its not an instant write-off.
i think we decided to go for ninja 250r hahaha jst becuz its newer n less headache in long run
How long will you have the bike for? Dont get me wrong its a reliable bike and has years behind it... but I would kill myself if I had to ride one daily for the next three years...
Twincam16 has a good point there but as long your happy with it that's ok. What is your budget anyways?
yeh might be called tyga,hhahhah
not sure
1 year =]
budget around 6k
Hahahaha.
The R125 fails simply because of it's astronomical price.
The CBR125 does not fail, as it has made many 18 year olds realise that they CAN afford to ride on the road. I've ridden one, yes they're as slow as a wet week, but they've brought through a new generation of riders!
I know many an 18 year old kid that have got Just Bikes magazine, seen the $10k pricetag on Shitmoto's CBR250RR's, and simply just given up. I put them on to CBR125's at around the $4k for demo models, and they realise that it's not so expensive!
Not sure about the GSXR125, though.
seen a few yamaha 125's around looks pretty good.
125 in a 4 stroke is actually dangerous on the road. literally no power band or power to keep up and out of the way of traffic.
The RS125 is dearer, but you get what you pay for. It has a better build and carries years of R&D via 125-GP. Forget Sumoto, anyone that buys from them hasnt done their homework, I would rather pay $4000 for a CBR250 which is still a better bike than a CBR125... its like picturing a CT110 with a bodykit...
And imagine doing that for 3 years!
Anybody anything about Megelli 250R's? They look rather good besides that, has somebody driven one?
Taken from kawariders... http://www.kawariders.com.au/showthr...8-Megelli-250r
From netrider... http://www.motorcycleridingschool.co...d.php?t=110643Quote:
Well i got a megelli 250 R nd it sht itself 58k's from the shop..am so Not happy.
the mech said it had a hole in the very center of the piston!! that was 2weeks ago..I'm still waiting for my bike
but after riding it, their a far better bikes for learners..CBR125 is smoother on gear change, handling etc.
Not looking too good...Quote:
Hi everyone, i thought i would post my experiences of the Megelli 250r. Firstly i work at a motorcycle dealership on the Sunshine Coast and we have recently gotten a few of these to see how they go.
As a few of you may know they are a 230cc Chinese bike and they live up to all the plastic expectations, they may look good in photos but so does the cbr125. It is a piece of P@@.
The bike almost looks good but it just has something wrong, the dash is very small! i found it very novel and unuseful. all the controls are hard to use and have to be visually checked to make sure you've done what you intended to do. Sitting on the bike doesnt improve things too much seat position is relatively low (i'm 5'8") and bars aren't very far away but quite low. Moving off is more off sound then feel as the clutch gives you nothing and is the same all the way through, once moving around at slow speeds manouvers are near on impossible due to something in the rake and front end, the bars just want to move side to side which with some familiarisation with the bike may be cured but it wasn't a nice start to the ride.
Once on the road the massive lack of power and accelleration was immediately obvious, there was no real power burst throughout the rev range and the bike struggled to rise through the revs, in any gear! The engine was screaming at me doing 60 in 3rd and when changing through the gears it was more a game of release the clutch and hope the gear had changed as there was absolutely no feel through the pedal. The position of the gear selector is terrible requiring my whole foot to raise off the footrest to select up. The rear brake is similarly high requiring your foot and ankle to be in a very awkward position to use the rear brake, this made covering the rear brake very hard. Performance of the brakes is limited and rather lacking, it's a good thing the bike will only get to about 115k/h. My first experience of the front brakes was a scary one, having been cut off but a Commodore i instictively got on the brakes and luckily found what seemed to be sufficient enough decelleration to avoid an accident however i was no where near impressed with the stopping power or feel of the brakes. At no point did i get to test the tyre performance as the road was slightly slippery and i had no intention of coming off.
Summing up, for $5999 on road and service intervals of every 3000kms after the first service at 500kms i would be looking elsewhere, used ninja 250r or similar. I ride a 09 Ninja 250r and have just clocked 10,000kms on it and it is a wonderful bike, working at a bike store i get to ride a few things and the ninja is by far the best 250 learner bike out there, much more options in terms of tyres and enough power to have a bit of fun not to mention looks the goods. The Megelli is the opposite!
yeah ninja 250r is good :) its not as fast as cbr250rr but come on its newer n looks better
the seat is abit higher than cbr250rr but its a nice bike to ride around
full insurance only 700 bucks too from qbe for 7.5k :)
on the other hand 1.1k for cbr250rr and they only giv agreed value of 4.7k cant really go higher than that
My first bike was an 08 ninja 250r. after breaking in the engine i came to this conclusion: sux balls
I even installed a yoshimura cf on it and it sounded ghay.
quickly moved on to a 96 cbr250rr and never looked back.
I know the ninja is newer and fairly cheap, but come on it stinks for performance...
Hey all,
Wife and I recently got our 'Ls'. We are looking at getting bikes, second hand, by the end of the year. We had noticed that bikes are cheaper and more plentiful in Sydney, we are from Melb.
Would it be worth getting bikes in Sydney and then registering them here in Melb? Does anyone know how much it would cost to re-register a Sydney bike for Melbourne?
Cheers
My 2 Cents..
I have had my Aprilia RS125 for about 8 months now and I love this thing to bits. Everything has its plus' and minus' and I am sure this has been outlined for the RS many a time all over the net and possibly even here. So I am just going try my best to share my experience with you.
Before I do, the first thing you have to realise about owning a bike is that most often or not, owning one is an emotional choice. You would rarely buy a bike because it is your most practical transport option...
I dont think there is any other LAMS bike that feels like the RS when you slip the clutch juuuuust right and feel and hear the powerband come on sweetly. Every time you feel it reach the peak you punch up the gears without uncocking your wrist off the throttle...then you see the next corner explode in your vision and you blip the throttle and down shift whilst squeezing the brembos and you feel the front shocks and chasis respond perfectly right before you pitch and blow out of apex...
The only thing that I could imagine coming close would be to snort some of columbia's best off your frigit ex girlfriends D Cups then turning her around and hearing her moan "I am a slut" every time she orgasms whilst you slap her ass and pull her hair.....

ahhahaahhahahahaa nice
Wanting to ask a question about an RVF400, its a used bike, from a dealer, Peter stevens specifically, has done 22,000 k's , the asking price was $7990 and they said they can do it for $7,500, they really won't go any lower than that, any opinions on the deal good bad? its my first bike also, the money is no problem just want to know if its a good first bike and if its a good deal.
Had a nsr-150sp, was my first bike. Shit thing about it was the kick start esp on cold mornings.
Its a pretty quick bike, Considering its only 150cc also it seems to have vtech like feature which kicks in about 8 k rpm and the noise and the revs climb faster.
Now i got a CBR125R and its pretty slow compared to the NSR.
But its cheap to run and is new.
it should theoretically be making twice the power of other 150cc 4 stroke counterparts - so its more like a 300cc. 2 strokes do have a buzz of power up really high and are abit of fun making alot of noise !
Hey guys looking at this bike atm, only problem at the moment is the low kms. Is there anyway of finding out the real kms by racv check or something?
http://www.bikesales.com.au/all-bike...7064&silo=1400
Moved to LAMS thread
It may be possible to find out the original registered km's when the bike first landed in Australia, but anything before this day is pretty much impossible. Nobody would have records of a 20 year old bike in Japan, and its likely that with this bike (like most grey imports) the km's have been wound back... but who cares...
To be honest, dont worry about km's at all with any Learner bike, they shouldnt be a part of your buying decision - check the shocks, brakes, tyres, throttle, engine etc. Read through this thread and some of the others about buying a bike and you'll find heaps of info.
CBR250's pretty much all have low km's. Hell I've had 4 over the last few years of wheeling and dealings. Once they hit 40,000km they're due for a freshen up, top end and bottom. Sure, 20,000rpm sounds incredible, but when you're sitting on the freeway at 110kmh at 13000rpm for an hour, shit wears out real quick. Not to mention the nutjobs that seem to own and not maintain these things.
There are much better bikes out there than a CBR250RR. RVF400'S are lams approved, and a f**king weapon. Awesome bikes. NSR150SP is my LAMS bike. One hell of a good bike, but the kickstarting can get annoying. VTR250's are absolutely bombproof and surprisingly good power.
If you're intent on a CBR250RR like all of the population, check it out properly. Listen carefully for rattly bearings, as $5k is a lot of money to be buying a bike for then doing an engine re-build.
