Yup, your are right. Since the 06 new CIVIC demand is greater than supply in the market, all the dealers are selling the similar price with range of $500 difference. It depends on how much they want to charge for the delivery charge. Some dealers just want to be more competitive~ instead, they are willing to give you accessories, such as carpet, tint window, foot step ... even parking sensor or protection painting. But I saw some dealers start selling demo cars, which they might be paid less than usual.

yea ur rite they offered me a demo car...however they wer only 2k price diff... n i thought paying 2k extra id b better off as i would definitly be the 1st driver...kinda not including the ppl that work there that drove the car off the truck n into their show room...hehe

wsup guys!
i juz got back frm the dealer and i was interested in a few :honda: options..such as:
LED Lights:
Interior Trim Set
Side Step Garnish
Bodykit excluding rear spoiler [i asked for the hybrid spoiler but they said they cant get it..i only can get it aftermarket]
for 2600...

personally i dont think its worth it...as i plan to change the kit later..bt i think the LED's, Trim Set and Side step garnish make some nice touches to the base civic!...

do u guys know anywhere else I might be able to get these at a cheaper price than wat they are offering me...

also..question..i got a fren selling 2003 euro alloy wheels..can these fit the new civic?....

i have 2 wait till june for my car...and i askedd the dealer if they would be able to supply me with another car till then..bt they said some rules changed in march..and they cant blah blah..can anyone verify this>?>?

ur advise would be muchly appreciated!!!

Last week of june mine arrive and i order it on 4th of march..

are you guys serious!?! are you saying, if you ordered a civic early march you have to wait til late june? is it just a WA thing or does that apply australia-wide?

i ordered mine 5th of march (in Sydney, NSW), expecting a good call from the dealer any day now, but don't want to hear "you have to wait another 2 months"!

Hiya guys my first post on ozhonda.

I spoke to a lady from a honda dealer today about the rims, she was under the impression that if the overall profile is not any larger then it wouldn't void the warranty. I asked her to email me tomorrow in writing after she speaks to the techs. I'll let you all know.

Also, a few options were the Sport's rims which was $1100 (or thereabouts, without tyres) also fog lights which were around $500.

Guys anyone got a shot with and without the led lights? I'd like to see them, how much is that option btw?

Cheers

i think the wheel issue voiding the warranty depends on each individual dealer. don't think there's an official statement from honda, add to the fact that honda only supply up to 16" rim as an official accessory.

i emailed honda aust regarding if wheel size is more than 17" and above would we void the warranty. they gave me a coy answer that you can DO whatever you want to the car but should it be found that the unofficial part is causing the problem then no warranty on the parts involved.

i saw the honda jap site, they are selling 17" as an official accessory. just like sat-nav, rear camera etc... and they even give an official pricing not like in aust where u ask different dealer and they quote you different pricing...

Official email from the local honda dealer, regarding the tyre sizing.

Sounds ridiculous to me. It didn't answer my question at all.

Hope you are well, I found out a few things with the tyre size and laws for the Civics. Each car has a plate on the inside of the A pillar of the car (or else where) that states the tyre size(s) you can legally put on the car. in Civics case as far as i know Vti and Vti-L are only 15inch and Civic Sport 16inch. SA will apparently be enforcing new laws soon that make it very diffucult for us the dealer to supply non standard wheels. So if you want to change the wheel size from the ADR standard we cannot deliver the car you would have to do this yourself after delivery.
Its all becoming very complicated! If you have any more questions or if there is anything I can do for you please let me know. Have a lovely, safe long weekend and we'll be in touch

I reckon why pay top price for Honda's Rims? they don't look that great, I am sure one of the people that have the sport here have a set of 16" for sale, they put on aftermarket straight away. In terms of Warranty, they love to void everything and any thing when it comes to a claim. I have always been told that you are allowed to go up 2 inches following the placcard, Just keep in mind, that the profiles and rim size must all match back to the diameter of the wheel before and after the change. Good luck!

OMG! is this only for melbourne? or Australia WIDE?

I thought CIVIC is one of the every body car... not like a elise or sumthing that has limited production, how many exactly are made per month?

DEMAND > SUPPLY???

i did speak to honda australia about this matter (wheels) i told them i have purchased the new civic & wish to put my own wheels on the car, i explained the size (17") & have made sure they are the same rolling diameter of the original stock wheels & tyres.

the person at honda did say & i quote.... you may put whatever wheels & tyres you wish on the car after all it's your car. as far as warranty is concerned you may only have a problem if the aftermarket wheels are a course of a problem in that area i.e steering, suspension, but providing your wheels & tyres are the same rolling diameter i can not see this being a problem.

to be honest this is the first time i have ever heard of such a thing. i have owned subaru, ford, opel (holden) etc i have never had a problem with fitting aftermarket wheels, providing they are within 10% of the rolling diameter of the original wheels & tyres.

PUTTING AFTERMARKET WHEELS & TYRES DOES NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY ON YOUR WHOLE CAR.

Howie

Did you get that in writing?

blk vti
13-04-2006, 09:57 AM
no need to get it in writing. if it's the dealer saying that it voids your warranty
on your whole car ring honda australia & tell them what the dealer told you.

honda dealers say this as a sales ploy to make you think that the only alloy wheels that can be fitted to your car are genuine ones.

it is just not right.

i mean if your going to be stupid & put 18's or 19's on your car then your only asking for trouble.

for a 17" wheel you need to put a 45 series tyre on it, do not put a 40 series tyre on as it does not meet the same rolling diameter.

if in doubt contact honda australia directly.

yeah its aus wide, the civic is very popular! its just like when the mazda 3 came out, everyone wants one and there are only so many they can supply per month!

massive demand and a small supply = longer waits and less discount

white sport... should be nice. white doesn't seem as bad these days, i remember a time when even my mum would cringe at the thought of "another" white car.

and re complains with waiting times - 2-3 months is nothing compared to the 12 months some people have been waiting for their golf gti :) (although vw got their act together and now those waiting lists have recently been cut to 4-5 months)

yeah well i was in doubt, i contacted both honda aust and my local honda dealer, both gave me different story.

it's pretty standard that you can go up to +3 max from factory default 15" (as long as the overall rolling diameter is still close to the original).

i just think that there's no official statement from honda australia and that each dealer's just trying to cover their ass and playing safe. even the official reply i got back from honda aust was so coy in the way they phrase it.

the honda dealer i deal with will let me fit 17" and above but it'll void the suspension warranty. i thought suspension is wear and tear and not covered in the warranty?

anyway, it sounds like i'm being given the run around. even honda japan does a better job by giving 17" wheel as an accessory. just plain bs.. :thumbdwn:

hi guys...
i asked my dealer to see if he would be able to organise a loan car for me..to use until the civic arrives..and he told me that the law has changed..since march 2006..every car that leaves the yard needs to have stamp duty applied etc...

is this for real..or is he juz saying this cos he doesnt wanna let me use a car.. :(

wtf, 12months???? for a golf gti... hmm, what they build to order???

chylld
14-04-2006, 12:14 PM
i don't think they're built to order... just that demand has far exceeded supply capabilities thus creating a hugely long waiting list. in other words they didn't expect the 40k hot hatch to sell as well as it is in australia :)

re wheel sizes, i don't know about warranty and stuff but i know about the law in NSW about changing wheels. you have to follow a few rules:
- wheel rim thickness cannot grow by more than 1" (25.4mm) over the maximum size recommended on the tyre/wheel size plaque (found somewhere in the car)
- overall rolling diameter of wheel+tyre must not be more than 15mm larger than the max recommended on the plaque, and must not be more than 15mm smaller than the min recommended on the plaque
- overall track (width from left wheel rim outside edge to right wheel rim outside edge) cannot grow by more than 1 inch (25.4mm)

in NSW, if you follow these rules, you are legally allowed to change your wheels without having to notify the RTA (NSW's motor governing body). however if you break any of these rules, you have to notify the RTA and have them assess that your new rims are ok for use with the car, chances are it should be fine. i think the situation you really want to avoid is being involved in an accident where you are not at fault, and then the RTA finds you have non-complying rims on your car and so your car was not roadworthy at the time of the accident - which is bad news.

again, from a NSW standpoint, assuming the only wheel tyre size on the civic sport is 205/55R16 on 16x6.5 wheels, then the following are allowable upgrades (i made a spreadsheet to make filtering easier):
- 215/50R17 on 17x7 wheels
- 215/45R17 on 17x7 wheels
- 225/45R17 on 17x7.5 wheels
- 235/45R17 on 17x7.5 wheels

edit: if someone who already has a new civic (or any other car for that matter), give me the min and max wheel AND tyre sizes specified for the car and i'll tell you what you can do hassle-free in NSW.

Another email from my dealer today.

Hope you had a great weekend! I have spoken to Honda representatives and technically if you change anything from standard it could void the warranty, if Honda deems that the problem was caused by the aftermarket changes. So you can take your chances with the larger alloys but we have to recommend that everything stays as standard. If there is anything I can do for you please let me know.

Hope you have a great day.

sounds exactly like what happened to me... except for the last call where they told me it just arrived and will be in my hands in a week. i suggest you call them every week, in the hope they give you a pleasant surprise - i bet even they won't know for sure when the car will arrive in aus, but when it does it's not long before you get it :)

i don't think there's anything you can do about it unless your contract says it will be delivered by a specific time... just hang in there. you're definitely not the only one waiting for a new car :)

Hey mate,
Id stick in there with your deal, its pretty common for sales people to just say "yeah, should get your car in by this month" without them searching for your exact specification.

Like I said, sticking with your contract will be your best shot at getting that car ASAP, as that saleperson would be working hard to get your car so he does not lose the deal.

If you were PROMISED a car by this time, I would put in a complaint, demanding for a loan car till your's arrives. Should be easily arranged through the dealer and will only be done if he literally promised the car would be in your hands by now.

Keep in mind too, it is out of the dealer's control when your vehicle will arrive, I work for Volkswagen up here, and the GTI situation is a nightmare with customer's waiting, as we give a guide when their car will arrive, yet it is still often weeks late.
A lot of factor's come into play with the arrival time, so be understanding too

Aco3n,
You should also make best use of your contract terms....

"If the dealer has not delivered the motor vehicle to the customer, within thirty days of the estimated delivery date, the customer by notice in writing mayrecind this contract."

That is, if they havent delivered the car to you by 30 days after their estimated delivery date you've been handed a free option to go get a better deal from another dealer and recind your original contract. Alternatively, you could let your dealer know you intend to do this unless they drop their price again.

Its a wonderful negotiating position you are put in and you can bet your dealer and the dealers that post on this forum will not like it! :-)

yup good point. if you're just chasing for faster delivery time, i dont think going to another dealer looking for the same model would be helpfull, as all the honda dealers are facing the same situation (supply cant keep up with demand). unless of course the other dealer offers to give you a better deal just to get your order :)

It's at their own cost.

Q: do accord euro standard rims or dc5r rims fit the new civic?
The Accord Euro comes with 5x114.3 rims and +55 offset for both the 16 and 17" rims. If the Civic has the same 5x114.3 and a similar offset, then it should fit.

Huh??? How did you convince the dealer to import stuff for you from the US??? Some nuffy dealers in Melbourne don't even know that the bodykit exists -let alone goodies from the US???

Oh... con you post some pics of your new civic please - I'd like to see it! :)

Sorry,

The goodies from the US i purchased myself. if you search for 2006 Civic accessories youll find the sites im talking about. As for the HID lights, got them from XenonDepot. If you got the 8th Gen civic forums you might find yourself a link that will also take you to a special offers page for civic owners.

Pictures ill be doing this weekend (if the weather holds up). I'll post them shortly.

Still coming.. since 2 weeks ago.. and will be still coming.. up to beginning of May.. really frustating!! Luckily I still have another spare car... ;)

did you only order it 2 weeks ago? hmm better check with your dealer, some people that ordered it in march have been told to wait until july

mine arrived in australia end of last week so i was expecting it to be ready this weekend... but just called the dealer and they said that they only received the car at the dealership today, so the earliest i can have it is this coming wednesday. given that i work full time i'll be picking it up on the weekend = 8 week wait total! hehe

Good that u have spare car, civic Vti-L (black)will be my first car, I ordered it on 1st April, told by the dealer that I will get it in 4 weeks times, hopefully he will call me next week. He also told me that the delay depends on the color. What model and color did u order?

If it delayed, I'm gonna be really frustrated.

it may be delayed as the plant fell behind in production. you very well could have it on time as one of the boats arived a couple of days ago. if it is delayed its not the salespersons fault but the production plants so dont take frustrations out on them. we have been notified of our delayed deliveries and notified our customers. if you havnt been notified you sould be good to go.

which dealership did you buy the car from and how much you pay if you dont mind me asking?

It's all because i know the manager of the dealer :) . For euro i can get retail price for driveaway and jazz slighly lower than retail price for driveaway. But all that price not including accessories (like spoiler, tinted window, etc), you only get the car + floor mat.

I'm in Perth but I'd love to know whether there's any hope at all of receiving my car before July/August *sighs*

Oh, there was a line in the contract on the back (in small print) about how you can void the contract if you don't receive it within 3 months... Honda's going to be cutting it fairly damn fine.

Dont think the Fogs will fit as their bumper design is totally different from ours. I pulled my bumper out over the weekend to relocate my Drivers side Xenon Ballast and saw the back of the bumper.. the kit is well designed and bolts into pre-made mounting points. If you check my previous post above youll see the foglight kit on the VTiR (which i purchased in the US), but in the case of the EM1 Civic it was built in the US and the look was the same as the US model. Unfortunately for the Gen8 Civic its going to be a fairly expensive option to get the lights. :(

As for the deck, you can get the new dash surround for single and double din to install an aftermarket audio unit but this is only for LEFT HAND DRIVE civics. Do not go trying to purchase these kits off Ebay even though some of them make claims to ship to Australia. For now we're stuck with the Honda Audio unit and i dont see it changing anytime soon. :(

Removing the from bar took me 15mins the first time round, tho if i was to do it again it would more likely be 5mins. There are only 2 screws and the rest are the snap lock style tabs. the tricky bit is that the bar is clipped onto the car under each of the headlights and can be tricky/scarey to pull out/off the first time...

i mounted my passenger side ballast and ignitor in the section under the windscreen (theres a bracket that allows you to cable tie the whole thing) but mounting the stuff under the headlights would probably be even better.

Allow yourself 2hours to get a nice clean install with no visible cables.

hey how do you find the shift paddles?

does it shift down fast enough when your kaining it into corners?

tanalasta
24-04-2006, 01:04 PM
I find the placement a bit annoying as they can be a slightly hard to reach when turning corners. However, the gear shift is rather quick with the paddles and I think I just need to get used to the paddle location.

Take it for a spin and see what you think! My only gripe with the paddles is they only work in the "S" mode and you can't manually downshift / over-ride the transmission in automatic mode.

The reverse sensors are almost $700. Which is a total rip off seeing you can get 4 aftermarket sensors installed for almost half that price.

Mind you, I got the sensors, floor mats and the window tinting (also a rip at $600) thrown in. Which is fair enough seeing I paid RRP + ORC for my Honda Civic Sports.

I should add for that price, I could have gotton the Honda Euro.

that's what ppl tell me :) but i think a fairer comparison would be with the euro luxury so both cars have leather + sunroof.. then euro would be 7-10k more

the civic's wheelbase is actually 30mm longer than the accord's, trying to find internal measurements, have a feeling civic might have more rear legroom and stuff...

Yes, the Civic has a longer wheelbase than the Euro (2700mm compared with 2670mm). However, I bought the Euro Standard because I was more interested in the ESP, 6 speakers, trip computer, better engine and Made In Japan which are standard in the Euros. I wasn't interested in the leather seats and sunroof. A colleague also considered the Civic Sport for a while but bought the new Rav4 Cruiser. He got it within five working days. It costs him two grand more than the Civic Sport but has ESP, 17" alloys, dual climate air-con, illuminated driver/passenger vanity mirrors, 6 speakers, privacy windows, more leg room, more storage areas, 2.4L engine and other soft roading electronics wizardry.

Been busy with my job for a while .. I signed the contract on 15th of March.. and now.. they said there's delay on the delivery.. expect around beginning to mid of May.. gosh.. this time.. I'll cancel the deal if they still giving me reasons... since my friend ordered 1 after me, and he got it in 2 weeks time from different dealer.. really not happy with my dealer.. I ordered the "darker" silver colour.. since I don't wanna go with black anymore..

same here... i chose the purple (which is only available on the sport model yes) which brought me an 8-week wait... my dealer called a few days after i ordered (early march) and said if i change to black i can have it before the end of march, i.e. 3 weeks. guess it really all boils down to what they have and what they have to wait for from the factory.

Prices were the same as others, ie. ~ $29K for the Vti-L auto, ~ $35 for the Sport auto. Didn't get to haggling as I was pissed off with their offer.

Sunroof on a Vti-L is an extra $2500, hmm, pretty tempting. Though if I was gonna spend an extra $2500 then I'd probably be better off adding another few thousand and getting the Sport.

Ok I just picked up my new civic sport today! it's an awesome car to drive. much nicer than the accord euro i've been driving for the last 2.5 weeks - not as quiet, but smoother and just funkier to be in :) opened the sunroof on the way home and my gf got to watch the stars! (or something)

first impressions: the leather seats are a lot more slippery than i expected, slightly aggressive cornering can have people moving around in the car a fair bit (but not enough to disturb them.) 2 little niggles with build quality: the boot lid creaks a bit when opening/closing, and the driver's door needs a bit more force to close properly than the others. i'll try to have both of these fixed in my first service.

but it's just so awesome a car to drive i can easily forgive these things. the steering is quite quick but once you get used to it it's really good because you don't have to take your hands off the 9- and 3-o'clock positions even when turning tight corners :) the engine sounds sweet.

if i were to modify the car at all, i would put better speakers in - the stock ones aren't as good as i'd like, but then again i'm used to listening to music through sennheiser in-ear monitors.

i found out a bit of info about the waiting lists - my dealer (hornsby honda in sydney nsw) had heard nothing of people being told to wait until oct/nov, he instead said that there'd only be a 3-4 month wait for a civic, with the wait for the sport model maybe a bit longer. at that dealership, they've only been allocated 7 civic sports for the next 3 months! he said it was a restriction from higher up to keep the sport's exclusivity and retain the value a bit more.

I agree with almost all of the above post. Are you driving the automatic or the manual out of curiosity?

I had a good comparison between the Accord Euro and the Civic Sport at the recent motor show. The build quality on the Euro "is" slightly better - little things like less flimsy door seals, better quality carpet, full size alloy as opposed to that horrible steel thing in the Civic and the Euro dash / plastic feels more solid when you hammer on it hard. Plus I love the electric seats on the Euro.

Mind you, I'm waiting on a delivery of a Honda Civic Sports in July....... *sighs*

The Speakers do suck, especially when you do one better and you're used to driving with an iPod and Etymotic Canalphones ;)

I got my Civic Sports with tinting, mats, rear-sensors in silver moss (automatic) for just over $36000 including ORC/duties. Will be modding it with a body kit. Does anybody know how much comprehensive insurance will cost?

Though calling it a better drive than the Euro is pushing it just a little too far :P The reason I got the Civic over the Euro was simple fuel economy. The Euro guzzles in city traffic and I was happy enough with the Civic drive not to want to pay the extra couple of thou for the Euro Lux.

Ordered my Civic Sport auto today!!! Yay!!! $35995.00 driveaway with free mats, reverse sensors, and tinted windows! Got a black one! :D Unfortunately, the ETA is July-Aug... :(

Test drove it in "touge-like" backstreets of Donny - very torquey! (even in steep uphills sections of my "track").

Love the handling - spirited driving could not make the car deviate from its line when cornering!

The paddle shift was a treat, although as expected, there is a noticeble delay between pressing the paddle and the actual gear shift - bad when up shifting as you may be deceived into upshifting 2 gears instead of 1! Aside from that, the gear shifting was smooth as!

Power delivery was also fantastic, power on demand proves to be useful not only in sprinting but also powering out of corners!

Very impressed overall! So can't wait till its' delivered!!!

cheers

Just WD40 the boot hinge.....should be pretty easy. I can't remember if mine makes that noise or not.

The cabin is pretty air tight and the doors aren't too heavy so are you sure one door is harder to close than the other? As a test maybe leave the passenger side door open and close the drivers side door .....hahah just a suggestion.

Yeh I'm suprised too hear all this news about limited supply. I didn't think honda would care. Good news for ppl who already have one I guess. Can feel more *bling* for abit longer :D .

i'm driving the automatic. my previous car was a manual and i'm quite fine with stick-shifting, but after a hard day's work in peak hour traffic, a manual isn't the first thing on my mind :) although from what i hear the honda gearboxes are quite nice.

july... fairly long wait, but it's to be expected with demand this high. if the car's impression on me so far is anything to go by, it's definitely well worth the wait!

comprehensive insurance for me (23/m, clean history) is $966 with AAMI. some insurers wanted ridiculous premiums though, NRMA wanted like $1700.. and another insurer didn't even offer :(

i drove both the civic and the euro today, and realised that yes the accord handles a bit better :) there's less body roll and 'wallowing about'... although you wouldn't really complain about either car hehe. i maintain though that the civic is easier to bring to a stop gently and it absorbs potholes better - all of which can be put down to a softer suspension setup.

the euro is a bit of a fuel economy bastard, filled it up today after driving a tank in what was relatively light peak hour traffic without the AC running, and it only managed 10.5L/100km. With the AC on, it did 11.0L/100km - no need to turn it off then really.

haha i think i'll wd40 it myself this weekend... was showing the car to a friend at work today and he loved it (and he drives a new mx5)... but i felt a bit unnerved when he asked me to open the boot cos i knew it was gonna creak.

the lack of a remote boot release though is starting to get on my nerves, and i've only had the car for 3 days! fiddling with the key is quite cumbersome esp in the dark, don't want to accidentally scratch paint. i think from now on i'll go open the driver's door and pop the boot from there.

i'm very interested in the fuel economy too - however the picture doesn't look too good so far. there are around 20 little squares in the fuel gauge, 5 of them have disappeared after having covered about 100km. then again most of it was driven with the AC on, and the car is still loosening up, so too early to tell :)

Another vote for the Silver Moss. I had originally wanted black but the wait for it was going to be an entire month longer (and I thought 3 months+ was long enough).

The blue-beige leather looks good and only comes in the two silvery colours. Silver Moss is proving very popular. And as for the fact nobody has gotton a sport in that colour, my dealer says that's probably the most popular behind black!

And did I mention I also went for the Silver Sports Moss? I better have it in July!!!

Wow didn't know the sunroof was even an option on the vti-l.. my dealer had said it was a sport only thing.

saw a VTI on the road with sunroof.. wonder if they are Honda original or fitted at some local workshops.. if they are honda original, this means, Honda australia will have to indent from Thailand, since this wasn't even listed as an option in the brochures.?

its not an OEM sunroof. its sourced and fitted locally just like the window tint.

They use the Hollandia 700 sunroof. Very nice sunroof, has automatic closing with ignition off and optional rain sensors for when you decide to park with the sunroof open.

No... the features are for the after market Sunroof by Holandia which is favoured by Honda dealerships.

Very nice.. i had one on my very first car (EK9 GLI Hatch). Very large sunroof.. very reliable and at the time was bigger (actual see through area) than the factory unit installed on the VTi-R hatch.

Your dealer should have an ETA as to when your Civic will arrive. Depending on the colour and model, you should be looking at either end of June or end of July.

the general consensus seems to be no... you won't get a replacement car. i was told 4 weeks when i ordered mine early march, and i ended up having to wait 8 weeks - just depends when the dealer can get a hold of it.

pretty good price yeh, lots of people are still not getting any discount so given you paid about 500 less than me (equiv.) it's not the worst you could do :)

by first service do you mean the 6mth/10k km one? because the first first service (1k km) is free anyway...

tanalasta
15-05-2006, 12:07 AM
There's a clause in the contract somewhere about you being able to cancel it if the car hasn't been delivered in 3 months. Otherwise, it's all at the dealer's discretion. It's basically your word against his but your name on the dotted line.

Let me know how you go because I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Except I'd go from a Civic that's not in stock to the Honda Euro Luxury. Anyone in Perth know of a dealer that would let you swap cars without penalty?

chylld
15-05-2006, 08:52 AM
i'm not sure about the 3 month thing (haven't looked for it) but the one thing that my dealer pointed out to me was a paragraph saying that if i cancel the order, i have to pay 5% of the total purchase price minus any deposit i may have already paid - so for me that would have been $1825 - a very high price to pay just to get the car possibly sooner at another place.

i'm not sure if the contract i got from my dealer was dealer-specific, but it was a paragraph in red text (as opposed to black text) to make it stand out - you might want to look for it.

I think you might be able to swap car if you get it from the same dealer. My dealer allow me to swap car, but I don't have enough money to change to euro. So i guess I will just stick to my order. 5% is too much, not worth it, since I already waited nearly 2 months for my car.

They gave me almost $1500 discount. From $29700 to $28380. Can't complain, can I?

iigrover

The standard MTA contract allows you to rescind your contract if the car is delayed more than 30 days beyond the estimated delivery date. Which means if you chose to do this they must give you your deposit back immediately. Under this contract, you can also cancel the contract at any time, in which case the dealer gets to keep any deposit.

But beware, some dealers try scam customers by getting them to sign non-industry-standard contracts that exclude all the clauses that are in the standard contract to protect the buyer (Eg estimate delivery dates, ability to rescind contracts, etc) and even add in other clauses like penalties and additional fees for buyers under some circumstances.

So the moral of the story is before you go to rescind your contract read the fine print (or get a lawyer mate to do this for you) and remember small font is no less important than big red font and vice versa. And if you haven’t signed a contract yet, don’t be bullied into signing the dealer’s “standard” contract, insist on the industry body’s standard contract (eg the MTA contract) which includes all the standard buyers’ protections.

Cool. And I dont think Id trust myself to install it, as Im sure Id really F%#$ it up.

But I guess I was wondering whether the cost of labour was that much. That is, how much of the cost of a rear parking sensor is installation? Because if they only cost, say, $10-50 as the wholesale price, why dont they - for that price just - install them at the factory as a standard feature?

Note to self: I fear I may be displaying a high level of ignorance with these questions...

All of these points are true but to be fair there is a difference in price between the dodgy el-cheapo reverse units (that pickup ghost objects and probably wont stand upto the elements - plus look terrible) and those that will last as long as the car and perform as you would expect them too.

Youve also got to factor in that they are cutting into your bumper... so, should they screw this up youll be getting a nice new bumper, if you screw it up.......

True, there is a big difference in both price and quality between a cheap unit and a good unit. But then there's also a big price difference between a good unit and what Honda (and other manufacturers) charges with an unnoticeable difference in quality. Eh, maybe its just me but $650 for a reverse sensor unit just seems ludicrous. Especially when you can get a good reverse camera setup for that price.

I guess what it comes down to is you're paying for a good unit plus $300 as insurance incase they stuff up.

man I've seen a shit load more of civic in china town lately...........mostly VTI-L's but.

i have to admit as well now after 7,000km+ on the clock the suspension could be a hell of alot better. It's kinda of half arse and is annoying at times. Not to say that it doesn't do the job it just doesn't feel as good as I know it should.

i agree. in mine, the suspension is awesomely good on most roads but on occasional sections of bad roads it just decides to give up and becomes jarringly uncomfortable. i think the car would benefit more from softer springs/shocks (to absorb the sharp road joins) and stiffer swaybars (to reduce the body roll) - but that's just my hypothetical guess and i don't know if it'd work :)

I just went to the dealer just to check on the prices
VTI - $23k
VTI-L - $27k
Sports - $33k
All of the prices are manual, with on-road costs (Dealer delivery, stamp duty, rego), and discount. The price for the autos are approx $2k more expensive.

Just wondering how much are you guys paying for it? I know there is a very similar thread about this, but its pretty much for all types of civic, and I just want to make it specific.

For a civc, IMO the prices are ridiculous, especially the sport one.

Parking sensors / tinting thrown in for free but I talked to the after sales lady and she said that you should be able to get about half listed price. Which I may add is what you would pay for them aftermarket.

I paid $300 for the paint protection (not the interior) only. The full body kit (rear underspoiler + front underspoiler, side skirts, rear boot spoiler) was almost $2500.

that's exactly the question i asked of people when i was shopping for my previous car. so my previous car was a manual which was cool, i loved the direct control and stuff but manual can be a bit tiresome after a hard 10hr+ day at work when you just want to get home and sleep. auto is just easier to use in all situations :)

i'm starting to miss heel-toeing though. also how the auto shifts down to first before you come to a stop and jerks the car isn't cool... but it's only 2% of the time. motor magazine is quoted as saying that an auto is better for 98% of people 98% of the time... but to each his own! :)

Auto is the future. Ten years from now I'd be very surprised if any manufacturers are still offering a manual transmission. In the meantime, well, I think buyers of the Sport were attracted to the paddle shift. If the Sport only had an auto like the lower specs then the ones who bought auto probably would've got manual.

Also, I can't speak for anyone else but for me, I'd get the auto for the simple reason that I don't like the look of manual transmissions unless they have an alloy gated shift similar to those that you'd find on Lamborghinis and other exotics.
