Does anyone know which dealerships in melbourne are the better ones? thanks.
I had to get my handbrake adjusted at the 10k service. Would take 8-9 clicks before it would start holding.
On my second tank and still have a faint ping. :(
i ordered my MY10 CU2 Accord Euro and asked the dealer regarding the auto pinging issue and he kindly told me that it has been fixed by updated firmware on the car... will check it out in 2 weeks on my new car
Hopefully my pinging (rattle) is gone. Seems all good the dealer told me they had actually put in a new ECU. I questioned him when he said that and asked was it re mapped and he said no it was a totally new ECU.
It is a much better car to drive without that crap rattling all the time.
I might even start to enjoy driving it after a year of hating it.
I must say the pinging sound is pretty terrible through 4k-7k RPM (after the fix). Half way through my second tank and I'm pretty dissappointed with the 'fix'. Don't have much of a ping from 1k-4k RPM but above that = :(
Gonna raise this with Honda tomorrow....
Went in for th ping service - Mechanic went on a test driver with me and within a 1min - he confirms the issue and I also showed him the Bulletin from Acura and yes, he confims HA also receives similar bulletin.
Just have car back from dealer and the pinging noise seems to have gone now. Will do few more days of driving and update:
They replaced: Knock Sensor,Inlet Manifold Gasket and update ECU upgrade as well as A/T ECU upgrade and did a re-learn procedure. Also replace my distorted front speaker.
If you got a new ECU then I'm pretty certain all your keys will need to have been programmed for it. That is if they didn't have your spare (assuming you get a spare with a CU2) key then check it works i.e. remote unlocks doors, starts engine. Mine required this when the ECU was replaced though it was for a CL9.
My guess is they fed you BS but if it is fixed then all good.
hello euro2009, I've been following this pinging noise post for a while and am new to posting.
I was interested in which dealer to take my Euro to get this pinging noise fixed.
Would it be possible that you pm me where you took it as your dealer sounds like they know what they're doing and have fixed the problem and I happen to live in Sydney too!
Thanks in advance!
I had the fix today, new knock sensor and software update to the engine and transmission. The dealer tested the car again today before the fix and confirmed the ping was present and then again after to confirm it was gone, No issues on the way home all seems good so far.
As far as the fuel goes my dealer wouldn't book the fix until they had done a fuel test to make sure I was running on a minimum of 95RON. Why would they waste their time if it wasn't important?
no Mikhael... they said they missing a part of the intake manifold that they going to change as well (there's 4 of them, but they only received 3 from the delivery from Jap.) so I have to wait another 8-10 working days to order the last one. They also sed, the ECU reprogram will be done after the knock sensor and the new manifold is installed.
NOTE: in the work description they gave me, it says "parts on order to rectify post combustion noise from engine. Units/Qty: 0.25" :p LOL!!!
Hey Guys
I was called by Ken from Honda Australia today this was in response to my
second complaint after having the new computer and nock sensor fitted.
The noise is not as prominent but its still there.
Ken advised there are no further fixe's or corrections in the pipeline from HA.
So i just asked for him to send me an email with some confirmation
of our conversation.
Anyhow im happy in a half hearted way , but will keep monitoring it if the problem worsens, which i believe it won't..
The euro is a solid car, goes like shyte of a stick and has
amazing economy.
So that's the story , im sure dudes out there have lots of worst shyte:eek:
to deal with their cars...
All the best guys...
Denot, I would say they are refering to the inlet manifold gaskets of which 4 are requiered.
To my way of thinking the pinging issue has been resolved & is no longer an issue. It is just a matter of those with cars effected with the problem to book their cars in with dealers. To my knowledge the requiered parts are still in short supply.
Gday Guys
Here is the email i recieved today for your information.

Dear Mr XXXXXX
Thank you for your email providing feedback on your Honda Accord Euro's performance after completion of our post combustion sound upgrade.
We have noted your comments regarding the performance of your vehicle and that you are still able to detect some level of post combustion sound under certain driving conditions, albeit much reduced from before the upgrade was applied.
Field testing and customer feedback has confirmed the countermeasure to be most successful. However, as with most automotive vehicles, depending on type of fuel used, operating temperatures and conditions, some minor sound may be intermittently experienced and this would be considered normal operation.
Notwithstanding your comments have been noted and we are happy for the dealer to continue to monitor your vehicle's condition on your behalf.
Thank you once again for your feedback which is greatly appreciated.
Regards
HONDA AUSTRALIA PTY LTD;)
^^^ Well that is absolute bullsh!t. Mine is also still making a slight noise (albeit reduced) and really isn't causing me too much angst any more. But to say it is "as with most automotive vehicles" and "intermittent" is absolute rubbish. And it is not normal operation. It is very abnormal in my experience. It is definitely not fuel dependent in my car either.
This just smacks of butt covering by HA. I note they call it a post combustion "sound" rather than a "noise" - I had one ridiculous dialogue with my dealer where every time I called it a "noise" he corrected me and said "it's not a noise, it's a sound". FFS!
That would be a standardreply Vid. I find it a little unusual that the update is working on the majority of cars, but you say you still have a very slight noise. Could I ask under what condititons you notice it - RPM, engine load, speed, etc. Is it constantly repeatable under certain driving conditions, or intermittant?
As you say, a great car that unfortunately had a small technical problem which isn't all that unusual with the first of a new model run. The CL9 was great car, but the CU2 is a huge leap forward in all areas.
Greetings guys, I had my CU2 patched for the pinging problem yesterday. According to the service record I got back, a new knock sensor and 4 inlet manifold were changed, and the ECU was updated. So far it has worked, no more noise is heard, but will keep my eyes on it and keep you posted.
Happy 2 report, they finally bloody fix the pinging issue after lots of debacle.
Its not nice and peaceful..After pinging for over 13 mths.
Have my car fixed on Friday and get the car to drive from Sydney -> Windsor -> Singleton -> Newcastle on Saturday, back to Sydney on Sunday. Thank buddah for providing the "trainning" route. The route is really fun to drive, and I guess it train the car well, my wife love the scenary as well. I am happy with the fix so far, smoother, more responsive.
The mechanics said the pinging is fixed, some people might get 90% less pinging and that is fine. He did mentioned about the car re-learn phase for a few tanks, but didn't mentioned about the fuel type regarding to my case. Although he said fuel type will generally help.
Travelled 500+ km since the fix, no pinging so far. Happy. :)
Will update again after 1000+ km.
Still the same here with VERY slight pinging noise after the fix etc - only time will tell whether it gets louder at the moment it's fine as it is doesnt bother me as much as I used to.
I think this may be the last time I buy a Honda sedan - my next car in say 5 years or more will probably be non-honda, goodbye 4-cylinders and pinging noises and whatnot!
Primetime, please allow me to respond to your comment, & those with similar thoughts from a technical point of view. What I am about to say is not meant to be offensive to anyone, rather to inform those outside the industry how problems like this are dealt with within the industry.
Firstly, cars like the Accord Euro are low volume sellers, i would guess around 100 cars a month Australia wide, but i stand correcting on that figure. Honda Australia being strictly importers of a product would have very little, if any input into into the design specifications of the car.
In this case there was a problem with engine pinging on some vehicles under certain driving conditions. I think the CU2 was released in June 08, so lets hazard a guess that it was 4 to 6 weeks before HA started to get some feedback on this problem. They would have noted it at that time but needed more feedback to realise that in fact the was a definate problem, so I would hazzard a guestimate of 6 months before they had sufficient complaints to contact Honda Japan to let them know there was a definate problem over a number of vehicles.
From there Honda Japan would have sent over a couple of technicians to evaluate the cars under Australian conditions. From there they would have gone back to head office in Japan with thier findings. They would then have to replicate the problem within their technical department, probably on both an engine dyno & a chassis dyno. That would be the easy part, but time wise probably about 9 months after the release of the car in this country.
Once they could isolate the problem & find the cause, they then have to find a remedy and try different components, design & test those components until they found a suitable solution. That would have covered the replacement knock sensor we are getting. They then have to rewrite the software which turned out to be a comprehensive update, this would not have been a 5 minute job. Once they felt they had found a remedy for the problem a few technicians would have returned to Australia, applied the update to a few cars and extensively road tested those cars. I believe it would have taken 2 or 3 efforts of the above process until they were happy that they had a suitable update that could be released through the dealerships.
The update has been available now for about 2 months, so that would be 14 months after the initial release of the CU2, but more than likely about 8 months since they were notified of the problem by Honda Australia. (these time frames are approximate). After spending more time in the industry than I care to admit, i am personally suprised they found a solution as quick as they did.
They are my thoughts alone and I am not affiliated in any way with Honda. I have seen many worse problems than we have faced on cars far more expensive than a Euro that have never been solved.
Thanks for your feedback buddah, very much appreciated and informative.
To be fair, pinging issues aside, there are other issues unrelated to pinging which has happened to me during the time I owned the Euro's (CL9 before and CU2) that have annoyed me to no end.
You're quite right as well that HA is just importers of the car and thus no input into its design specs - this leads again to other points that I have raised elsewhere in the forum but I won't mention here at the risk of going OT.
Well fingers crossed, let's see what happens from now on, I think the pinging fix is as good as it gets for the time being.
So - should I be concerned ..... I took delivery of a new Accord Euro Luxary Navi, from the first shipment of MY10 models arrived in September. Took it in for it's 1000km service today, and mentioned that I heard a rattle when the car was accelerating at low speed. Have to take it back for 6 hours when they get in a new knock sensor. Notes on the service sheet say 'post detination noise'
i read through most of the pages ....... :)
but has any1 tried to tune the noise out, chuck on a fuel controller and some dyno time to see what AFR's are?
HI all,
this means My10 EUro still got this pinging issue?
I thought My10 EUro models Honda rectrified this issue already..
Thanks
That was my understanding too, so I was happy to buy one, now that after 1000km service I reported an issue, and I have to take it back for the knock sensor to be replaced. So that's why I'm wondering, do I really have an MY10, or is it a MY09. If I thought I could see the build plates, it would help - but I'm a chick, I don't live to crawl into an engine bay :-)
Can you communicate in this forum off line, so you don't have to name it in a public arena?? I went to a Dealership for the 1000km service, close to where I work (not the one I bought the car from). There was a queue a mile long of people wanting to check in their cars, some guy waiting far to patiently to be dropped off at the station - so not a good level of their service.
Then after I picked up the car - I noticed later that the lining of the front bumper bar hadn't been realigned properly, and the wax hadn't been wiped off/buffed properly - so it looked all scratched. If it wasn't 5pm, I would have gone straight round to the dealership and had a go!
Mine's finally booked in for tomorrow, after 10 months of being stuffed around...
I noted that there was a "Tune" drive that a few members took there cars on after the fix, can anyone provide more info...
you should enjoy that drive Irving, I regard it as 1 of the better drivers roads in the country, just treat it with respect & hope there are not too many slow vehicles around. If you choose to avoid going to Newcastle, Stop at a tiny town called Bulga, just after you go through a section called the 10 mile. There is a small servo/restaurant on the left heading north. have a break there & do a U turn & go back the same way. Much more fun than the Freeway, & you can give the car a real workout.
Glad to hear your pinging issue has been resolved, but then again I have been saying all along that it would be sorted out.....no offense meant, although I could understand the frustration of non technical people.
^^ THanks buddah n irving, which part of putty rd is the most interesting one? near bulga or before?
dang! 4 hrs driving and no interesting stopping point? I dont think my baby boy can handle it... :(
Denot, my favorite part of the Putty Rd is a section called the 10 mile which finishes just south of Bulga, although it would depend on your driving skills, lack of other traffic & how hard you want to push it. As you have an Auto, i would leave it in sports mode through that section & use your paddles, personally I would only be using 2nd gear for 90% of that section of road. But in saying that, there are good sections of road all the way.
A 4 hour non stop run, just getting warmed up mate. it's 15 hours from here to Gosford
You can always do a search on you tube for putty road, that will give you an indication of what to expect
Does anybody know if the new software and knock sensor will be replaced on all CU2 as they come for service at the Honad dealers?
I bought a Euro Lux Navi in January this year (buid date Oct 08) and have been lucky enough not to hear any pinging in the 8,000Km that I have done so far. This being the case, I was wondering if I should ask for the software upgrade at the 10,000Km service.
Thanks in advance for your opinion
That is not necessarily the case Denot. I am not sure of HA's position on this or if it is the dealers choice. My dealer will be doing the whole update (software & knock sensor) for those who complain of the problem, otherwise all vehicles will get the software update alone as they come in for servicing.
Well, just picked up my brand new MY10 Luxury 5sp Auto this morning. No sign of any pinging which I am so happy about. Took it for a spin up Mount Cootha, put the A/C on full (to help load up the engine), put it in sport mode and tested out aceleration at all different revs...could not find a fault.
Having never owned a Honda before, it was nice to discover what happens around 4000 rpm
I'll be keeping an ear out in the coming weeks, but seems OK for now.
just replaced mine last week. pinging gone :D
just came back from the dealer jsut now. pinging issue gone! speakers fixed tooo!
it was so quick
dropped it off in the morning and had lunch and it was already time to pick it up. when i got there the guy was like yeh we fixed it ill bring the car out now. im like thats it? and hes like...well yeh...
giving me the "what else do u want? a hug?" expression
no documentation no nothing. thats normal right? i also happened to notice they didnt stamp my logbook for my 1000km service but they gave me a printout.
and there was a bit of plastic from some packaging that was poking out from a gap on the edge of my door. im assuimg it happened when they opened it to install speakers. but a random bit of plastic makes me wonder why and what got caught inside....
^^^ furry, your dealer seems dodgy...
1. Any warranty claim done on the car has to have a job desc print out
2. Log book need to be stamp
3. They left wat????
MY10 should have the pinging issue resolved as part of the MY10 update.
You will find the sweet spot for performance is between 4000 to 6000, don't be afraid to give it a good workout now & then when conditions are appropriate, Just make sure everything is up to operating temp (not just your temp gauge).
Denot, I need to correct you there, a dealer is only obliged to give you a receipt for the service, they do not need to give you receipt for warranty repairs.
Agree about log book stamp, but the 1000km service is just a check over. The first official service is not due till 10,000km (which I think is too long). He should just keep his receipt & request a stamp at his next service.
Plastic behind the door trim could be left over from shipment when all door trims are covered in pastic -no drama there.
I finally got around to getting the Euro in for a service and to have the pinging and speakers fixed.
All I can say is that it is sooooo good not to hear that damn pinging any more.
The car feels more responsive and I might be going crazy but the auto seems to be shifting different (better). Maybe they reset the engine and it is re-learning my pattern but so far me like..!!
And the speaker replacement was a breeze. Done without question.
How can you tell if your speakers are blown? Would an audio noob definitely know if something was up? :o
you will definitly know something is wrong..
It's hard to describe the sound as its not the same as when a speaker is blown, but for me and others that I know who had the problem heard it more during the talking in between songs than through the music although if the music was rap or rnb involving alot of talking then it was a pain.
Please refer to this dedicated thread about CU2 speakers.
nice to discover what happens around 4000 rpm
even better at 5k being the stage3 changeover. :)
Had the knock sensor and SW upgrade completed under warranty yesterday with the 12month/20k service. No pinging evident now.
.....my first post here.
I purchased my new Euro in June 09. This is my second Euro. In between I had a Subaru Liberty Spec B. This car had loads of grunt-fun to drive BUT rode really hard and was super thirsty.
I first notice the pinging on the Euro coming up Mt Ousley. I thought it may have been the fuel -so switched from 95RON to 98RON.
No change. Then it started to really annoy me! I wrote to Honda Aust. Got a lame reply back from Customer Service basically saying-not our problem. See your dealer. After spending $46,500 -this response did not impress me. So I wrote back and cc the MD of HA. Again another pap response.
Went to the dealer. They were onto it. Knew that it existed. Booked the car in.
It is 95% fixed. I still occasionally hear it ( windows down and booting it) But overall -a Happy Ending.
This should never of happened in the first place. My comment to HA is that -they should have called all 09 owners to say the problem may exist -now lets fix it. Good Customer Service is all about "anticipating the needs of the customer" NOT hoping like hell no one complains !
This is my 4th Honda. Up to now loved the brand and the vehicles.
In fact -still do. I'm not that precious!. The 09 Euro is a treat to drive. Love it.
Occasionally,I still miss the Liberty up Mt Ousley-the S# with the paddles was awesome ! But don't miss pulling up at the bowser twice a week.
Cheers and thanks for the tips.
