Nice one Furry! Looks great! And I agree sporty 19" will make it looks better...
also, It looks even better without the transformers decal! :p jokez mate... hehehe
Btw, who's the R for? Your second car?

Thanks for the replies guys! :D and yes denot, it looks better without transformers lol
was going to remove the rear mugen power as well (maybe just leave the kanji) during my next wash, but the contractor got overenthusiastic and washed my car for me and buffed it all up. its sooo smooth right now
the subaru is for my uncle (its his retirement car! lol) he is trading "down" his peugot (he intended that as the "one classy european car i drive before i die", since he didnt want to buy an overpriced fuel guzzling, high maintenance bmw) for a "fuel efficient, safe handling grocery hatch"
but we found out that the subaru sedan costs the same as the hatch (after haggling for 3 hours to get the "last special edition R hatch in australia" and ending up with special edition 2 with sunroof but 3 month wait.
When the guy gaves us a sedan to test drive...my car nut brain ticked into action and thought...hey that body kit looks awesome, if my uncle got the sedan i could buy it off him 5 years down the track and rice it up, so i asked the dealer and he was like "oh why didnt u say so earlier, i have plenty of sedans in stock at the same price" LOL
anyway the subaru is freakin awesome, i have never experienced handling like that before in my life. Defo buying the car off my uncle.
Fury!!! WELL DONE mate!...they turn out way beyond what i thought they will look! SEXAY! ...does the front lip extend further lower compared to stock bumper?
when i test fitted. it actually didnt (i have test fit pics on imageshack account) but that cud be because i didnt have teins yet.
but when i stick my hand under the front. i can feel that it hangs a bit lower than stock...so SOOOO scared of scraping.
actually for some reason, the front right of the car (when looking at it) has a crease on the bottom underside (u cant see it in pics cause its dark down there) it looks warped. but doesnt look bad cause just makes the car look lower lol
but to answer your question. i had trouble clearing my driveway with stock body + teins. but now i cannot clear my driveway at all with lip Lol
btw yungquan, where did u get your rims, how much did they cost and whats the model/specs?
thnx
Awww furythree mate!!! Looks friggin awesome! Now you need the Mugen Spoiler ;) and possibly Mugen Grill hehe. Well done :). Btw the side skirt you got is the one you got from China right? Coz it's different to the one Paul has.
As for the rims, how much you willing on spending is the question ;) (on just the rims itself, no rubber) haha
On other news...I should be getting my new bumper this week...will keep ya all posted :D
lool dont tempt me man! when i was taking the pics i was like, if i had a mugen wing right now... *drool*
as for grill i wanna get it as badly as the wing, but ive been itching to do that custom grill. im just scared of taking apart the front myself and i might as well paint calipers too. was planning easter break but gf wants roadtrip zzzz -_-
and yes its the china one i bought. i had issues with fitament but i stuck with it anyway (trimmed the top edge and it fit fine) i like it better than Paul's because paul's is missing an upflap at one end.
the thing with the skirts is that. i dunno how to jack the car up now lol

funny theyre my favs too lol. its my wallpaper now
i took a better one on the first day (but my mum was in the pic inspecting my car lol) but the lighting was awesome so made the sideskirts show up really well and made it look so low and wide. so i took those 3 to see if i cud get the same effect
ended up being different but very good neverthe less
so gunna bring out the SLR this weekend! :D
Anyway. in regards to rims. Looking for 19-20s but as ive never bought wheels before in my life. i dont know what a realistic price range is. Im very happy to buy second hand, but dont know what good brands are for hondas
budget is 1-1.4k thats stretching it (coming out of mugen wing budget lol)
1.4k easily if i can resell my OEM rims
Mugen wing if i can sell OEM modulo wing.

I've driven the new STis an they are a beast of a car, haven't seen or driven the Special Edition R though...don't know which one I like better though, EVO 10 or STi...I think STi handles a little better where the EVO 10s are a bit quicker...but not sure hey...Oh and can't forget the Golf R...that little thing is an absolute beast! Took one for a test drive when I went to get my car serviced hehe...
Anyways...the custom grill is quite nice but looks way too time consuming my for schedule at the moment. I might just get mine sprayed black and possibly stick a red Honda badge on it (I've seen someone do this and it looks epic good on white).
Yeah that's what I noticed too with the side skirt, the 2nd upflap part is a more accurate representation of the real Mugen skirt, was pretty disappointed Paul's one didn't have it on both ends =(.
I'm waiting for stock of the ROTA DPTs at the moment, about 1.5mths to go. About 1.1k for a brand new set plus tyres (prob another 1k on top). The size I'm looking at is 18x8.5, +44 5x114.3.

Hi guys! Since tony (kwangstuh) brought up the topic of wheels. Jusf wondering if you guys can tell me if these wheels will fit my car. And what size tyres i need to buy to fit them.
Heres the link of the wheels that i want:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260749416047&autoredirect=off
They supply these at a local wheels shop called 'the tyre factory' down here in melb but ive been told i can save alot of money by buying these online cos of the strong aussie dollar.
Thanks guys!
Simon.
EDIT:
Here are the wheel specs for those who are too lazy to open the link:
They are 18x8 with an offset of +48.

hey, good choice Simon, I once was looking at the same Enkei wheels too. I think the +48 offset and 8w width will be fine, but we need a bolt pattern of 5x114.3 (or 5x114). the one listed is 5x100

btwn the 2 offsets, +32 will be quite flush with the arches. 48 is too weak.
19x8.0 ET+32 sets your wheel 23mm further out ..this would be about the maximum you can go without any guard rolling <-----provided you run natural camber before/after lowering.

god i need to do more research about rim dimensions lol
its a shame, the ROnjon guy emailed me saying that hes not even gunna sell me them because he advises that its not finanicially worth it to ship (i interpreted that as, "My wheels are not of the value or quality to throw that much money into them" lol) he said it would be cheaper to get a importer to share a shipping container and import for me
sounds like a lot of trouble
but yeh, It looks like its down to those rotas or more searching. Anyone here with strong opinions against the quality of rotas? I mean its all forged and stuff right...

both can b short or long, just if u prefer silver or black (silver looks better, personal preference since our engine bay is mostly black)
Should I go for short ram intake or long one? is true installing CAI could lose your factory warranty? Has anyone experienced this before?

when u buy the takeda intake it comes in two parts, so u can mod to make it long down to fog light or just to the air box (for wet seasons), im pretty thats what they say on the site, also injen u can get a discount apparently from heeltoeauto :S , as for warranty i dont kno sorry

in regards to short ram or cold air intake, I have spoken to a few dealerships service department and they all said it does not affect warranty. Once you start to play with the headers and so forth then the warranty becomes void.
have a takeda sri intake in mine with the fujitsubo legalis r exhaust.
the sri drowns the sound of the exhaust but adds a nice raw deep tone for daily driving.

Yeh im VERY set on Rota boosts. BUT I NEED 19's!! WAHhh :( the design is very simple and basic, theres gotta be brands out there that look similar but in 19s?
the legend wheels come close too, what do u guys think http://www.ronjonwheels.com/ronjonimages/large/tsx83.jpg
*edit* i am really loving the legend wheels, especially the raven black machined
5x114.3
what size dimensions offset would fit the cu2?
i so agree with you about the Ronjon wheels fury. I was very keen on the Legends style too, especially the Liquid Graphite 19". I also emailed them and they gave me the same answer.. that's its too expansive to post here.
But looking at all the other wheels options you have posted, it may only cost ~400 for postage if they put their acts together...
i would have been happy to pay that extra 400 for the Ronjon Legends too...you will probably be the one or only ronjon shod Euro in Oz... shame..

Nice find on the cabin air filters! So tempted to stock up for 10 years! ~$11 a filter so tempting.
Was going to try a cheaper non OEM brand from the states (which I've been using for my Jazz with fine results (~$8 a filter) but now undecided.
The no name CAI pipe you might as well DIY (think there's some guide in the DIY section of the forum)! Gains are minimal - more for look factor IMO
Just remove the stock resonator for sound if that's what you're after (I've done it for the previous Accord Euro and there is certainly more roar when you step on the pedal!)
Can't wait to see the new wheels natnat!

also ive been seriously considering getting the replica injens, a friend of mine said that for CAI/SRI theres no difference between brands, maybe just the pod, but mostly as long as you have a good setup and the pipe is metal and not rubber like OEM, then its good.

IMO, cheap wheels do not mean dangerous.
you can buy enkei pf01 or rpf1 from LSD motorsport is ebay, shipped to Aust for around $1300-$1600 shipped.
it depends on what you plan to use the wheels for. for street use and city driving, any wheels will do.
but, if you like to drive spiritedly or plan to track your car, then the risk of failure is higher for imitation than good quality wheels.
but if you drive like a regular camry driver, then you'd be fine.
btw, i had 2 sets TSW wheels in the past and buckled both sets, made it South Africa. hit pothole at 60km/h in the first set back in 1997, and hit the intersection round metal bit on the road at 20km/h.

some are happy to spend $800 on 'style' type wheels and $1200 on premium tyres.
some are happy to spend >$3000 on high quality wheels and budget tyres.
many are very happy to spend $1200-$1400 on 18" wheels and tyres sets.
some choose matte black finish for stealth look.
some are eager for bling bling 20" chromie, screaming 'yo, look at me! look at me!!'

thanks for the input guys. since i havent really scraped yet with my car (barely driven it...stupid full time work) i think ill take my time. when the time comes that my tyres need changing, ill ask them to test fit higher profile tyres on oem 18s and see how that goes.
im actually more interested in installing a short ram intake. ive been googling all day about it. i still havent found a definitive answer about 4 things:
1) does the resonator actually do anything important - if i remove it, does it improve airflow and let in more pollution?
2) SRI has issues of heat when idle, and is also illegal to have them uncovered (god knows why), so easier to install but have to make a cover for it. furthermore the internets say that when idle and not moving, its sucking in hot air, but people say once u start moving thats not an issue. dont want CAI because i dont want to worry about rain getting in
3) is it a bad idea to remove resonator AND install a SRI? is the air still able to flow efficiently from the front into the airbox? otherwise might as well install a cai
4) do intakes have to be branded? this is the most important question, cause even the noob forums has ppl reccommending getting and el cheapo pipe and fitting an apexi or knN pod. so if theres no issues with that, that means theres no issues in buying a replica intake right

Resonator is to eliminate the unwanted noise (for comfort).
SRI is illegal as it could catch on fire (don't ask me how :p) and insurance will revoke the claim.

They don't call em The Soft Wheel (TSW) for nothing!
LOL, very true!
back in 1997 and 1999, it was not easy to source good quality JDM wheels at decent prices.. and being a noob i thought Bob Jane was a good shop to buy wheels and i thought TSW had good designs :p
in 1997 i paid $2200 for a set of TSW 16" wheels and Falken Ziex 205 50 16 tyres for my 1996 EK Civic VTI sedan. the wheels were sitting on stock suspension with massive gap to the fender, the rear would rub with 5 people in the car on hard cornering, i could corner at 100km/h at 60km/h zone although floaty, but i thought it looked cool enough :D
this was the car before i changed wheels:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5218/5393048640_61c8f1ab2d.jpg
in 1999 i paid $2500 for a set of TSW 16" and Goodyear F1 205 50 16 for my 1999 Lancer 1.5Ltr, also sat on stock suspension like a 4WD.

catch on fire? omgwtf so why do people still install them. how do they get away with it?
someone on acurazine removed their resonator, installed KNN drop in filter, and added a custom armlength pvc pipe to the end of the pipe connecting to the drop box, the pipe went where the resonator was
this setup sounds very similar to a CAI, the piping is the same with the exception that the filter is at the airbox and not at the end of the pipe. would this be a good idea? sounds really simple.

just a heads up for anyone thinking of changing brake fluid on their CU2. Be sure to use dot 5 or top shelf brake fluid. I used dot 4 shell fluid and it was rubbish. All this time I thought the stock pads were crap. Not at all, they lasted a whole day of tracking without fading. The fading before was caused by brake fluid that couldn't withstand the heat.

hey guys! long time no mod/post, since its the start of easter holidays i decided to buy and install Paul's new carbon fibre Mugen Grill that he has in stock at www.bodykitskingdom.com.au for our CU2's.
took some shots while installing it, the fitment was not the best and it was missing some holes for the clips on the bumper to hold it so had to use double sided tape, luckily there were bracers on top of the grill so that it would hold on to the radiator cover however those bracers didn't have holes in them either! so we had to drill our own.

As you know natnat, buying wheels is a very difficult choice & i have looked into a number of options. Firstly I was looking for a set of OEM 18's with no scratches or gutter rash, That was unsuccessful. I then sent 2 online applications to JDM Concept looking to buy a set of SSR Vienna LM9's, I received no reply to either application which tells me they are not interested in my Business. I have visited every tyre dealer in the area & they had nothing that suited my taste. Next option was searching online, I liked some of the RonJon wheels from the states, but importing was not a feasible option. So it came down to a set of BBS or Enkie's & they are the 2 wheels that I asked for thoughts on.
Hi buddah51au, i never received any emails from you. two possible problems, either you didnt enter the correct email address for us to reply back or it was caught by spam filter. either way we are aware of this problem and we are rolling out jdmc v2 which will ensure all enquries are received.
we always answer email and LM9 not hard to get quote for...

Nothing as yet mate, still running OEM. It is such a tough decision, add to that I Have probate on a deceased estate in progress which is making me think about updating to the new model CU2 when it arrives. But also in mind is the fact that my car rarely leaves the garage these days, so why spend money on it. Since moving to Hervey Bay, everything I need is within a few kms, so it is far better to do what is needed on 2 wheels. The car just sits in a garage with a cover over it. I am in no hurry to make any decisions, but at present I intend to wait for probate to be finalised & I will either update to a new CU2, or keep what I have, add a nice set of wheels, a Modulo kit & possibly a Fujitsubo exhaust, bit will definitely not be lowering it.
Regardless of getting an update model or keeping my current car I think I will be getting a set of Work Varianza SCHWERT SC1. That is my current thinking anyway.

They delivered the wrong model air filter - took a week to get it exchanged! Finally put it in yesterday. Definitely makes a serious difference! So does keeping away from Shell 95 Octane - that stuff is just hopeless!
I've lined up my hardware for a serious electronic makeover:
Bury CC9060 IQ voice-controlled Bluetooth
Bury Series 9 Modular Base and Active Phone Cradle for HTC Desire
JBL MS-8 8-channel Digital Sound Processor / 8-channel Amplifier
Alpine MRV-F405 4-channel Amplifier
Schneider SPA 6000x mono block Amplifier
Hertz HSK 165 splits (new model) for front doors
Infinity 652i coax speakers for back doors
Infinity 652i coax speakers for rear parcel shelf
Infinity 452i coax speaker for centre front shelf
Phase Linear HD-12 sub-woofer for boot
SSL 3.5 Farad stiffening capacitor
Now it's just a matter of getting Juerg of Auto Acoustics to put it all together, with some Dynamat, cables, woodwork, sweat and ingenuity.
Piece of cake!
Well it has been over a month since my installation was to take place, and I'm not much closer to it. My son's motor bike was damaged while parked and TOTALLED so he's been using my wife's car until the bike gets replaced. So I can't monopolise her car while mine is in the audio shop. Hopefully in two weeks' time.
In the meantime, the audio has been adjusted. Gone are the back door speakers. An extra amplifier has been thrown in - a Schneider SPA 9702A 2-channel amp. My Hertz HSK165 splits are being split - they are losing the passive crossover and going active crossover so they can be time-aligned by the JBL MS-8.
I'm also replacing the battery, going for a FULLRIVER 12V 55AH DEEP CYCLE AGM battery. This battery is 100% spill-proof even if damaged, can be discharged to over 80% of capacity which makes it excellent for high power amps, yet provides sufficient instantaneous cranking current for repeated engine starting. It has a 2 year warranty and a 5-to-10 year service life. Actual voltage available will be significantly greater than 12 volts, probably over 14 volts, which is optimum for most high quality car audio amplifiers. The 3.5 farad capacitor should keep the voltage to the amps more-or-less constant to the amplifiers. The battery terminals will be replaced with gold-plated terminals with digital voltage readout, able to accept multiple + and - cables up to 0GA. Total fuse requirements still to be determined.

Hertz HSK 165 splits (new model) for front doors and pillars (replacing existing speakers)
Infinity 652i coax speakers for rear parcel shelf (replacing existing speakers)
Infinity 452i coax speaker for centre front shelf (replacing existing speaker)
Phase Linear HC-12 subwoofer for boot
VFM Audio 1.4 cu ft sealed subwoofer enclosure
SSL 3.5 Farad stiffening capacitor
FullRiver 12V 55AH deep cycle AGM battery
I have edge-braced and massively sound-deadened the subwoofer enclosure. For some subs sound-deadening can be a problem as it effectively increases the volume by perhaps 15%, putting more strain on the sub's motor (most subs rely to some extent on the internal air pressure of the enclosure to help the motor return the cone to rest. The Phase Linear sub can be used as a "free-air" sub, so its motor is not expected to require that help).
The wheel arches have been sound-deadened, using 3M Sound Deadener spray paint. The result has been very good, but I shall be adding more sound deadener in the next few days as I'm not completely happy with it yet.
The bonnet has been sound-deadened using a combination of constrained layer dampening (CLD) (like DynaMat) over 25% of the surface, then covered by foam-backed Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV). Sound deadening the bonnet has been very instructive - the direction of engine noise has changed from my face to my feet, meaning that the bonnet was one major conduit of engine noise, with the rest coming through the firewall.
The boot area under the spare tyre has been sound deadened using CLD 25% and completely covered by MLV. Exhaust noise has been lessened, but not nearly enough - the rest of the boot floor needs to be done.
The following areas will be similarly sound-proofed or sound-deadened:
Rear shelf
Boot
Doors
Firewall
Floor between firewall and front seats
That's all for now

Warren

You know those crappy excuses for speakers that Honda put in your CU2? They are none other than Alpines!!! The very worst speakers that I've ever seen, made by a company that can definitely make good car speakers. Infinity's retail speakers are slightly laid back but very natural sounding - not a shadow on the Hertz speakers though. Not sure if you know, but Infinity was the first company in the world to market a super-expensive domestic speaker - the Infinity IRS was considered for several years to be the best domestic speaker in the world, at a paltry US$65,000 when US$1 was real money.

Try the new Optima... Just go and try it, I was very impressed, not at least the GDI engine, 148KW on 91RON while drinking the same as a CU2
The new Gen Theta engine is so advanced Mitsubishi and Chrysler is paying Hyundai/Kia for the right to use it.
The Current Mitsubishi Lancer and Lancer Evolution are running on modified HYUNDAI/Kia engine's (Mitsubishi 4B11/4B11T/4B12)
I'm waiting on the Optima turbo version to come out, 204KW, 365Nm, Less than 9L/100KM combined (still drooling over the Coupe version (http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2010/04/looking-ahead-to-the-kia-optima-coupe.html)), only thing I'd do is swap out the terrible Nexen tyres for a set of Falken's or Sumitomos

My opinion is the new optima is a huge step forward for Kia. The major problem for me is a fully sealed auto transmission, meaning you cant change the oil. Therefore the transmission is a disposable unit, not suitable for those who wish to keep a car longer than 5 years.

The other problem I've found with Kia cars that I have driven is the lack of noise shielding of any type - wind noise, tyre noise, motor noise, exhaust noise all are above average. It sounds like they want to radically reposition themselves in the market, so I expect their lack of noise insulation is also being improved.

The owners manual/logbook tells them to change ATF fluid every 60,000 miles under severe usage... So you have to be able to do it otherwise it won't be on the manual.
Tell the dealer people to read their workshop manual. again and if they STILL don't get it give them this:
See the link below, download the PDF "Auto_trans_fluid_service.pdf" (abotu 1/2 way down the page)it's the workshop manual for the 6spd auto tranny on the hyundai/kia platform. theres no dipstick to avoid contamination/oxidation.
http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t48206-sealed-transmission.htm
It'll be interesting to see how many cars got ruined cause dealers don't know what they supposed to know.

Engine is still nosier than the Euro (at least the CL9), but all Direct-inject engines are like that.

It isn't really that many speakers you need to replace - all you need to keep for great sound are a pair of front splits, centre front, and sub. If you have people regularly in the back, you may also want to put in replacement parcel shelf speakers. The big problem is that the head unit is equalised to try to compensate for the existing terrible speakers - replacing these speakers with good ones, and feeding them using the same signals, would be even worse than not replacing them at all. So you need a Digital Sound Processor which can pre-equalise back to normal (or completely replace the head unit which is a real bitch). Using a DSP which does automatic time alignment, such as the Alpine or JBL, means that you can get a sound system with a real stereo sound stage.

i dont have the balls to change hids on a euro XD anyone with expience on cu2, wanna team up with me? i know how hids work done a few jobs on toyotas before
I would if I lived in Melb or if you drove up to Brissy just to do them :P
just an FYI the HID installation is a bit more trickier on the CU2 than Toyotas...Toyota headlight changing in general is way easier to do...Honda = accessing the bulb through the wheel flap (or watever it called haha)

Hi Guys,
I contacted Cox Motor Parts and ask for the shipping cost to Australia.
Price per wheel 145.00 pounds X 4 add 250.00 pounds for shipping = 830.00 pound
830 X $1.51 AUD = $1250 delivered to door.
do you think that is a good price?

If you want quality Japanese rims you can try JDM concept or autotechnic. They are also in the trader lists.

VFM Audio 1.4 cu ft sealed subwoofer enclosure

Warren

Hi guys, I would just like to know if anyone of you have installed a headunit into their Euros yet. I want this do this in the future but I don't know much (if anything) about taking the control panel and stuff so I'd obviously get some professional help. I'd want a touch screen headunit with a GPS in it as well, not just a headunit for music. I just wanted to know rough prices or something to do this and how hard is it etc etc. If someone could explain everything to me, that would be greatly appreciated.
Also Warren, would you say JL audio systems are good? Why did you go with what you chose? I'm noob with sound systems as well :S
Edit: Oh and, where did you get your window visors Warren!? I like those slim ones better than the OEM ones ): Are they the JDM ones?
Thank you,
Steven

For the CU2 is very tricky.
I believe there are no fascia kits available yet, so it'd need to be a custom job.
I'd be happy of being corrected, as i'm looking to do the same here.
There are some GPS units being sold from china that fit on the information display, and where the pocket is. but I'm not sure about their quality, or whether they will display the information that screen has currently.

Hi Steven.
AFAIK, these window visors are OEM. They look the same as those in the accessories brochure. I bought my CU2 2nd hand with all its current accessories already installed (Modulo, Elegance, Visors, Window Tinting).
I'll go through my thinking for each of the items which is being added in:
Bury Bluetooth CC 9060 IQ
Choice was Bury or Parrott
Bury looks like the technology leader
Able to get it new for very good price on the web
Adding in the active cradle was a nicety, but makes a difference when I am driving long distances and need to answer lots of business calls on the way, drawing down my phone battery
FullRiver Battery DC55-12
My amplifiers will draw a LOT of current
A standard starter battery only drains a tiny proportion of its capacity before it starts bottoming out as it is optimised for big short bursts (starting) rather than big constant drain (high-power amps). Typically bottoms out at about 90%-95% of capacity (i.e. after using just 5%-10% of capacity) - watch your headlights dim each time your subwoofer thumps!
Choice1 is a dual-purpose wet-cell battery of which the best-known is the Optima yellow-top range - typically bottoms out at about 70% of capacity - about $320
Choice2 is an AGM (Absorbed Glass Matt) deep cycle battery of which the best known manufacturer is FullRiver - typically bottoms out at 15% of capacity - recharges MUCH faster than wet cell battery - price is about $220 - battery life is typically 5-to-10 years!
Choice3 is a separate deep-cycle battery - requires an upgrade to the alternator system - I don't need it.
Power Capacitor
A power capacitor between the battery and the hi-fi amps will charge up and then release current as demanded by the instantaneous needs of the amp, putting less pressure on the battery.
If the power capacitor is too small for the purpose, it will regularly fully drain, and will in fact be a net drain on the battery instead of a help!
For small-to-moderate sound systems, a 1 Farad capacitor is likely to be sufficient
I found this 3.5 Farad capacitor at an excellent price on the web
JBL MS-8 Digital Sound Processor
The Accord Euro Luxury head unit is not bad at all. But the speakers are atrocious - all of them! The head unit has been hard-equalised to try to compensate for speakers which have no treble, boomy bass, peaks and troughs everywhere. As a result, if you simply replace the speakers or add amplification and speakers, the result will be terrible. The only way to keep the head unit and properly compensate for it (apart from modifying its electronics to bypass the equalisation completely), is to re-equalise the output of the head unit BEFORE feeding it to your amplifiers and speakers.
There are a few choices for pre-equalising DSPs, but most are limited to 4 channels, or 5 channels. There are a number of 8-channel DSPs being readied for release, but right now the choice is JBL MS-8 or ...wait.
The MS-8 takes the speaker output from the head unit and, using its own test CD, resets it to something very close to flat over the audible frequency range. WOW!
It also sets delays for each of the speakers so that the sound from each speaker reaches the listener at exactly the same time, so that you get a truly remarkable recreation of the sound stage
It also has a built-in amplifier which you can choose to use or bypass on each of the 8 channels
Hertz HSK 165 splits
There are lots of excellent speakers out there. When it comes to splits, you start hearing REALLY good quality sound at about $500 retail - Hertz HSK 165s, equivalent Focals, etc.
With care and some luck, you can find non-fake high quality speakers on the web, for very very good prices
That's what I got, but not before going through the hassle of discovering and dealing with my first two pairs of HSK 165s which were fake!
Infinity superseded coax speakers for front shelf centre and rear parcel shelf
Centre speaker is remarkably important for enhancing depth in the sound stage. As a result it needs to be pretty good. But it is still "fill" - unless you are trying to win a competition, you don't want to spend silly money on this speaker.
Rear shelf speakers are not that important for listeners at the front, but help manage music in the back. In contrast, rear door speakers are almost useless unless you have a chauffeur. You don't want the sound to be out of character with the rest of the system.
I like Infinity speakers - they are detailed but a little laid back compared to the Hertz HSKs, and these superseded speakers cost me a lot less than current model speakers of the same quality.

Phase Linear 12" speaker
This is an experiment! Phase Linear were are top-of-market manufacturer of audiophile-oriented car hi-fi a decade ago, but their parent company went bust in 2003 and they are no more.
I got two of these subs, brand new (yet close to 10 years old) on eBay
They are very flexible in how you box them, which was attractive to me. I've decided to put one in a sealed enclosure, which I have modified by smothering almost all internal sound reflections, which makes it behave a little like an open air environment (which the Phase Linear can handle but many other subs can not).
If it does not work as I want it to, I have a JL Audio 12" sub as a fall-back
Amplifiers
I've bought all my amplifiers 2nd-hand to save money
I got the Schneider mono block amp, for the sub, for a fraction of its realistic value - it's a good amp and a good match for the Phase Linear sub
The Alpine amp is an old but excellent work-horse and provides very clean power for the front splits, which are the most important speakers.
I have picked up a couple of other amplifiers on eBay, but I don't know yet what their sound quality is like, so I do not yet know which I shall be using. The others will either be used in my wife's car or sold again on eBay (for more than I bought them).

I have picked up a few other amplifiers on eBay, but I don't know yet what their sound quality is like, so I do not yet know which I shall be using. The others will either be used in my wife's car or sold again on eBay (for more than I bought them).
Hope that helps

I'd guess about 25Kg (after removing the existing speakers and battery) but there would be another 15Kg in sound deadening. I've been driving around with everything in my boot to get a feel for the additional sluggishness - not too bad.
It's a bit like having my wife in the boot.

Whoa Warren, that is a very detailed replied, thank you for that! Though I don't even know most of those stuff are but I get the gist of it. If I were to replace all my speakers, I would also need to add in something like a sound processor? Pretty much like a computer yeah? Can't just have a new set of 7.1 speakers if the sound card can't be compatiable/can't produce all the proper sounds of those speakers?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did you spend on the sound system? If I were to do anything to the stock sound system, it'd probably be one of my later mods. I want to do some cosmetics first :D
Oh and really? Those are OEM ones? Mine one are fat as.. I like the JDM ones, they're slimmer. Here are my visors, sorry about the photo, it's the only one I have showing them 'properly'.

I'll try to give you the picture. Imagine there is only one pair of speakers. If you test the existing speakers in your car you might get a graph which is 10dB down at 50Hz (bass), 3dB down at 150Hz (mid-bass), flattish from 500Hz to 3KHz (midrange), flattish from 4Hz to 7Hz (treble) and then 3dB down at 10Khz and gradually drop from there. Not great but OK - probably about the same as the replacement speakers. BUT, that is after the head unit has ramped up the bass to get ANY bass or treble at all. So, when you replace the speaker with the good one, the head unit is STILL ramping up the bass and treble, so the bass ends up boomy and unpleasant, mid-bass dominates over midrange, making voices sound unnaturally deep, and treble sounds unpleasantly harsh. You can try to adjust for it, but, at best you will get something a little better than what you started with.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, roughly how much did you spend on the sound system? If I were to do anything to the stock sound system, it'd probably be one of my later mods. I want to do some cosmetics first :D
Ask me after it has all gone in! Hardware I think has come to about $3000 (including the Bluetooth etc). I would not suggest that everyone wants to commit that sort of money for their music, but on the other hand, paying full retail for an equivalent system would easily exceed twice that. The retail price of the JBL MS-8 alone is $1400 though I am certain you can do much better than that in Australia (I've seen it for $1000), let alone from the US which is how I bought it.

I just reviewed what everything cost and it is quite enlightening:
Battery $210 - new from distributor
Capacitor $60 - new on eBay - retail would be about $120
JBL MS-8 DSP $660 - new on US eBay - retail is $1400 but realistically $1000
Hertz HSK 165 splits $145 - new from Malaysia - retail is $485 but street price varies widely from about $200 up (anything cheaper is likely to be fake - I was incredibly lucky)
Infinity 652i coax speakers $79 - new (superseded) on eBay - replacement retail about $130
Infinity 452i coax speaker $59 (pair) - new (superseded) on eBay - replacement retail about $100
Phase Linear HC-12 sub $52 - new (ancient stock) on eBay - replacement would be something like a Boston Acoustics G512-4 which is around $700 I think
VFM Audio sealed sub enclosure $68 - new on eBay - replacement would be the same price (includes postage Brisbane to Sydney)
Schneider SPA-6000x mono block amp (500W RMS @ 4Ohms, 1Ohm stable) $142 - 2nd-hand on eBay - replacement would be say an Alpine MRP-M1000 $700
Alpine MRV-F405 $152 - 2nd hand on eBay - replacement MRP-F300 $400
Alpine MRP-F200, Kenwood KAC-742, Axis AX505A 5-channel, Formula Mach 9000 - each bought for between $20 and $60 on eBay - one of these will be my other amp with the rest being cleaned up, tested, documentation provided if possible, and resold on eBay. The Alpine should get about $100, the Kenwood should get $70, the Axis should get $100, the Formula Mach 9000 could get up to $200 - it is a reasonably big competition amp. I have not yet listened to any of them. The Alpine will sound very good but is a little short on power. The Kenwood has about the same power. I have no idea about the Axis. The Formula has heaps of grunt but could either sound great or terrible.
More later.

Just got a question for those with aftermarket rims/experts :P
What's the max width and offset I could go with rims on my CU2 if I was looking at getting 18"?
Much help would be greatly appreciated :) :)
Thanks!
Front wheel offset you can go till +30 and rear offset +20 ( Hellaflush )

manual adjustment on damper it's similar to coilover instead of oil they use air on it. you can get analog kit or digital :) The ride is like stock suspension even better :) cost me $4000 ( kits + installation ). First CU2 with Air suspension :p

Could you be a bit more descriptive - for $4000, I'd hope that the result is not simply a marginal improvement over standard. How does it affect bumps, turns, holes, ride comfort, ride sportiness?

Its more than standard warren you can drop ur car to the ground which no other standard be able to do so. :p hmmm the ride its comfortable depend on ur setup again. The price for the kit 2600 + install 1400. The handling was ok not as good as coilover. But better than standard

Airbag suspension... Ain't it illegal?
at the moment the only RTA NSW guideline re suspension is here:
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_06_-_guidelines_for_light_vehicle_modifications_nov_20 07.pdf
it's silent on air suspension, hence don't think it's illegal unless you drive with the car fully slammed.

wow i dont post for ages and this thread gets pushed to second page lolz
man u guys remember how i was complaining about hitting something under my car against the gate stopper poking up from the ground in my driveway? like a clunk.
well i stayed at my uncles place over the weekend...and he has an even higher plate/stopper poking up from the ground. i caught the train to work and told him to reverse the car into his driveway. when i came to pick it up at night....i drove 200m down the road, hit the brakes at a red light, nose of the car dipped a few cm cause of the braking...then SCRAPPPEEEEEEEEE. i was like WTFFFF BBQQQ WAS THAT?!
so i kept driving but didnt hear anything....until i got to a slightly bumpy road, then....SCRAPPe SCRAPEEE SCRAPITY SCRAPPEEEE!
so i pulled the car over. walked around the car, expecting the worst...lilke the bodykit fell off or something. but could see anything wrong!!!
when i finally got home, i pulled out a flashlight and looked under my car...and oh my fukn god....basically when my uncle reversed, his stopper thing latched onto the heatshield underneath the car and ripped half of it off. so basically i had a gigantic plate bend into an upside down L shape poking down underneath my car. it hung lower than my crazy low bodykit. so every tiny downward jolt would scrape the edge of the alumnium plate.
next day i tried jacking the car up to look underneath and tried to wack the plate up a bit to hopefully increase the distance between the edge and the ground, since i had no time to go to mechanic that day
i didnt have one of those stands u use to hold up the car, so as i was laying bricks (lol) whoda guessed it, the car started sliding backwards and basically tilted off the car jack nearly crushing my hand. then the car jack got stuck between a brick and my side skirts -_-
so then i had to call my cousin to come lend me his jack so i cud get the thing out. Sighs
finally i took it to a mechanic, who had to drive my car onto a plank of wood and use 2 car jacks to lift my car up cause mine was so damn low she cudnt fit anything underneath lol.
then she unscrewed it and re rivtted the plate back together. malletted the thing flat and screwed it back on, ensuring that she bend it upwards a bit to prevent hooking again (the exhaust now sits lower than the heat shield does). and yes the mechanic was this 19 year old tiny little asian girl who i could no believe was the one fixing my car. and she totally knew her stuff.
so $40 down, an uncrushed hand, and a newlly hammered heatshield later, i have minimal "clunk" inssues when driving. That being said having my car lowered still gives me nightmares as i have to deal with scraping the underside of my lip everytime i go into a gas station cause of their STUUUUUUUPIDLY designed driveways.
Also in regards to buying bigger rims to elevate the car, the girl told me that it wouldnt work because getting bigger mags means i have to get lower profile tyres, offsetting each other....
the only other way is to get bigger mags or higher profile tyres without offsetting each other, thereby having a bigger diameter overall. which is what i wanted. but the down side is that my wheels wont be rolling at the correct speed the odomoter is reading due to the increased circumference....and messing with ur odometer is illegal....so FAROUT MAN...damned if u do, damned if u dont
i have pics of the whole sequence of events, which i will post at a later date when i can be bothered.
on another matter, i popped the hood the other day and had a close look at the air intake. it appears that our stock intake feeds air in from the upper right part of the grill (when facing the car) and draws the air down a pipe, THEN BACK UP AGAIN in a loop wtf, then feeds into the airbox. thats so freaken stupid??
by removing the resonator, it just makes the feed inlet grill/filter thing a free floating useless box, and the airbox is sucking in air vertically downwards? so i fail to see how removing the resonator will make it better cause its not allowing the inlet to face oncoming air lilke the stock configuration does (despite its nonsensical, direction changing loopidy loop)

it takes skills and experience to drive a lowered car without any scrape...
it takes a bravery or pure madness to drive an extremely lowered car.... like 5cm off the ground. (RTA rule is 10cm off the ground i think).
worst case scenario if a major damage hit your oil sump.. you'd have to get it towed and see $,$$$ flowing out of your pocket to fix it.
btw, i also drive a lowered car on Bilstein PSS10 and i have carbon fibre front chin spoiler and carbon fibre exhaust tips, so i always avoid certain areas, intersections, streets and certain shopping centers; and give extreme cautions and long lecturing to the person who is about to take the driver seat :p

it's amazing how you get to know every single bump on the roads on your most frequent destinations lol.
especially the ones that caused some damage :p
i still vaguely remember the area that buckled my 1 mth old 16" TSW wheels in 1997 near Sunnybank Hills in QLD!

I would love to hear the sound quality of the DVD player and GPS navigation. I have had experience when we were installing one on his camry. Everything was working fine except the sound was completely different after the installation. The mechanic pointed out that the headunit does not produce enough output to support the sound quality. Correct me if I'm wrong.
However still a good add on to the euro where there is camera to help with parking, especially in the city!

your thoughts on the cuzco type 1..
regarding pricing or quality?
Price wise , Tenzo's i think are from the US of A.
BUT they are simmilar to Lenso! so....you can have a look at Lenso ones which are identical if not exactly the same coz from memory, they are manufactured from the same factory.
Quality wise, VERY good for sub 2000 wheel. Had them in my previous car and never had any issues with buckling, paint peeling off whatsoever.

They're designed for the LHD TSX meaning that the beam patter is different to our Euro's. If you see your stock HID patterns against a wall, you'll see one that the left headlight is aimed higher than that of the right headlight. It's opposite for the TSX so if you bring these here you'll be lighting up the other side of the road causing a lot of glare to oncoming traffic and less light onto the actual road and side you see.
Cool folding mirrors though, do they actually work with our Euro's though?
