-_- Tried to sell it.... No luck, Its pretty MINT... Black EK4 Clean interior.... too bad I cant Sell on OZhonda... I don't post much and I don't BS too often enough to get REP for it. :p

So I thought I'd unregister it, Try and recondition the car even more when I have some spare cash. Then try to sell it for a higher price.

Too much low baller and tyre kickers... its no funny. (Sorry mods trying to stay on topic)

How much did you get it for and where?

According to Honda in Wollongong (don't know if anyone else can confirm), but parts are no longer available for the EK4/EM1 rsb except the self-locking nuts, everything else came up on the computer as no longer available when searching the Australian parts database. And the US prices on this site are up to 5 times cheaper, compared to what Honda would charge you, if they could get the parts.

For example, Honda gave me a trade price of $153 EACH for the end links (normal retail is $276), while on this site they are less than $50 each. Massive difference.

For complete rsb setup, including the bar it was $AU220. With delivery to Australia it's a total cost of about $300 delivered to my door. And it's all OEM/ brand new, not 15 years old.

I set up a US shipping address at MyUS.com, which cost a one-off fee of $10.

Hopefully it should give my car a closer to neutral setup combined with the 22mm fsb...

Lmzo. A sway bar has not much difference in integrity used vs new. The endlinks/bushes/brackets yes. But the sway bar is just a bar.

As long as the bar hasn't gone past its elastic limit (which it shouldn't on a car), it'll be the same as a bnib bar.

no offense but you could have got 2nd hand ek9 22mm rsb for around that with decent endlinks and bushes, maybe even less

for roughly 400 total you could have got a subframe reinforcement too

could also upgrade fsb to a 26mm from ek4/em1/ek9 too for not much..

I picked up my ek4 16mm rear sway bar + unknown condition endlinks for $20 :D

btw noob question ctx or PHO: how do you tell if the endlinks are gone besides from hearing noises after its on the car.

PHO
25-10-2013, 08:56 PM
Check for play in the endlinks. Move the bolt around (the stud that sticks out of the rubber) Its allowed to pivot but if you can move it in and out, side to side. Its gone, Shouldn't have any play, should only pivot.

All good ctx, I know that, but it's not the feel I'm going for in the car, just after a bit more of a neutral setup without going over the top.

If it was a b series, maybe different story, but I think 13mm rsb is more than enough for a d16

Just hoping it clears the exhaust piping!

It wasn't too bad, will definitely need a new bar though and the rear lip was smashed off.

On a positive note, the rest of the car is looking redder than ever. I used this turtle wax stuff, that has a red tint.

Carayan, if you have small marks on the car it is better to buff them out properly than to use this stuff.

it looks like something has been scraped across the surface of the paint, leaving a mark behind but in several different places. would clay barring make a difference?

the front rotors are rda ebc slotted's with bendix brake pads
The rear rotors and rda ebc and the pad's are RDA max gp pads, did not want to go all out on the expensive rear pads,

veri naice,
how much did the whole kit cost you ?

Alvis
26-12-2013, 08:17 PM
Thanks mate, it was $220 for the kit plus delivery to Australia, so about $270 all up.

Of course people will say you could have got other aftermarket kits with a bigger sway bar for the same price etc etc, but that's not what I wanted. I wanted a neutral feel for the car, OEM part quality etc so it's perfect for what I wanted and is more than enough for a D16Y4 :-)

I took it through some nice S bend corners on an initial test drive and the rsb makes an incredible difference - almost scared myself lol - I already had a front tower bar and spoon progressive springs on the car (with oem dampers) and it's gotten rid of the vagueness I used to get at the front end, being much more direct when pointing it in the corners with no over or under steer - just that nice neutral feel/ balance.

However, I'm not sure how it would stack up against you guys with the D16Y4 hatches/ coupes with it being a sedan... some Koni Yellows would be next on the list, but a recent Pedders report told me the existing dampers (just on 85,000kms) were still perfectly fine...

Nice work, a good price you got there :-) but I found it so hard to find second hand kits with everything when you want one these days - I found a used bar but I still needed everything else so was no point; I said stuff it I'm going to buy it all new and have total peace of mind.

Putting it into perspective I rang Honda and they wanted over $700 for the whole kit - and that's at trade price (ridiculous I know)! So to me $220 + delivery is a bargain for new OEM Honda parts :-)

nice clean and simple. going to get some panel/paint work done soon also, but for what i paid for this car, it pretty darn straight and clean

what i did in the last 2 days
replaced timing belt, water pump, tensioner and seals
valve's adjusted and timing done
installed FIPK intake
Installed OEM SiR lip
installed hardrace torque mounts, rear trailing arm bush, front swaybar bush
EK9 rear swaybar and ASR brace
K tuned shifter (had to remove cause it was missing spacer and bolt)not bad for 2 days non stop DIY work. i'm bloody proud

I'm glad i sold the EK9, i can actually do more work on this car then i did with the EK9, and its bloody rewarding

Nah bro running 185/55 which is kinda really small. Apparently the guy i bought it from was like when he imported it the tyres came with it so he didn't bother changing it. EK9 was a good car, don't get me wrong, it really lived up to the hype (towards the end before I sold it)
Best thing I done to it was actually getting the car corner weighted and getting the suspension leveled out, it really handles like its on rails now.

But with that car, I couldn't do anything, if I did something to it, I'd get criticised for ruining such car.

So, sold the 9, paid 3k for ek4 (for the price I paid? I've probably spent more fixing it/parts/mods then the car itself)
Also, I can do so much more, it's like having an empty plate at a buffet, fill it up with food and go hard
As with the ek9, plate was already full and adding anything else to the car was like adding soy sauce on spaghetti

Thanks dude... Yeah 15x8 +25

Umm got a grey that is pretty much spot on with oem ek9 ones, just not as glossy/reflective.

r u goin to boost da ek4

currently going over my options atm

k-swap is off the list (no A/C, there is but it is a big hassle)
Turbo the b16a (would be good for straight line, but i'm not sure if the block would take that kinda punishment on track)
B18cR(this is at the top of my list atm)
B20 conversion (if i can't find a descent b18cr then i'll get the b20 and stuff the block with goodies)

i'll be doing everything myself, so i'm saving alot of $$$$

i'm going to be entering Auto-x and hill climbs too, so my focus is handling and a little more torque/usable power)

I've just replaced the old thermostat, was so knacked it didnt even move
avid tuner mounts (62a) car rattle like a snake now
hard-race torque mounts
k tuned shifter with spoon aluminium knob
Removed intake manifold and throttle body, cleaned and polished the throttle plate
De-carb'd the engine (so much smoke, neighbours thought my house was on fire)
inner and outta tie-rods
steering rack adjustment (best mod/fix i've done ever in my entire life)

car goes really good now, engine doesn't lag like it did when i got her, engine mounts previously were knackered too (every single one was broken)

Rear mount was a *&^%$, did'nt have to remove the rear bracket to install the new mount which was a bonus

K-tuned shifter is the shiz, had an ebay special previously and it was a night and day difference. even compared to my old ek9,it just feels more fun and inspiring whenever I shift

epic start to the journey, hope she does well in the upcoming months/years
I'm having more fun with this car then the EK9, with the EK4 I have to start from nothing, adding all the bits and pieces is bloody fun and satifying. But with the EK9, it was already done from factory, doesn't need any mods/parts. Reason why i sold white pearl, just got boring as there wasn't 1 thing i could do to it.

thanks for reading and comments fellas, you've been my inspiration to stay in the game(after all these years) and continue to hone/sharpen my skills

Boost it kenny, a b16 can safely make 160kw, 180kw on a more aggressive tune and 200kw on E85 all on stock sleeve and block easy, if u knw what parts to find u can usually make ur own setup for under 3k easy! or better yet source a 2nd kit for 2.5k and slap it on, and u b spanking those b18cr swapped ek all day long lol

and as far as track, dont worry about the block, as long as u have a air-to-air oil cooler and bigger radiator fitted u shouldnt have any prbs on track with a boosted setup, all comes down to how well u setup ur cooling system for ur car

200kw with E85? I think you mean with 98 Barry :P

Kenny you are best of doing an LS/VTEC for good torque but still being able to rev the **** off it

I've got cast manifold, dump and wastegate/dump here atm
Also got some RC550 injectors too

Need a t3/t4 turbo, Garrett 50 trim?(.63)
Need cooler pipes and hondata s300 to finish it

I'm looking at about 200-210 kW atw, possible on 98 pump fuel?
And would sleeping performance be able to tune it

How much camber are you running?

Yesterday I finally fitted tyres (195/55) to my RA's (15x7 +25) and I definitely need some guard work but I do like it.
