did some cleaning on the weekend. clay bar'd the outside with mother california clay bar system. really good. there are still loads of contaminants on my paint though because it is an old car. then polished with turtle wax ICE liquid polish. will post up pics if i can remember to. Also drained and replaced gearbox oil. gearbox feels great now, shifting is very light.

Rears defs need rolling, fronts no, but the guard lining will rub like a bitch, so two choices really, either cut up the guards lining or remove it out of the way.

how much u need to roll depends on size an offset of rims, as well neg camber. Imo, ur gonna spend 1.5k on coilovers, might as well get camber kit as well, that way u can dial in what ever sus settings u want at the wheel shop

I'm thinking maybe I should just throw the lining away. I've read mixed opinions on it though. Would be great to see a DIY.

I don't think a camber kit will be completely necessary as far as guard clearance is concerned because I'll gain a little bit of neg camber from lowering anyway. I'm concerned though I may need one to reduce negative camber for a more even tyre wear? Correct me if I'm wrong or maybe advise on this if you can..

My coils only cost around $750 as I bought them with the Enkei rpf1 (15x7 +35). They are just skunk2 pro-s II.

I'm already going way over budget as I'm planning on having all new bushings installed and the car corner weighted. Now if I have to get guards rolled there's another cost.

Depends how much u drop the car really, but imo, but ideally u want the toe at zero at the rear and a lil bit of camber like -1 or so should be fine for daily. Its toe that mainly kills tires on ek, not so much camber.

The more low u go, the more neg camber ur gonna get, so its best to get camber kit if u want an ideal daily setup

Yeah I got a quote from a couple smash repairers, anywhere from 4-7 :/
Don't suppose you would know how much I could expect to pay for just the front and rear bumpers, boot and bonnet in original colour? Thats all that actually needs to be done on my car - the colour change is kind of just a dream that I know I can't afford lol.

what does qualified mean? a qualified mechanic would look at service manual, some might even dont.
as long as you got service manual, doesnt matter if youre qualified or not.

'qualified' is rather overrated and misleading sometimes.

so if you build a race motor, all you need is a service manual to build the race motor?

nice work mate! What brand clutch did you buy and how many k's did you get out of the old one?

its a xtreme hd clutch, was gonna opt for exedy, but was more expensive....

total kms so far was around 170,000kms, but the surprising thing was that the clutch had heaps of meat on it, but the pressure plate was worn.... id say if the pressure plate was still good, i can get maybe another 30,000kms or so......

Its do-able for most who have an itch for mechanical diy, but definate takes time doin it :)

no exaggeration is required for eg: front strut bar improved suspension/ handling performance straight away LOL

AndreaCivic
25-11-2011, 06:23 PM
Well i had the bushings and suspension installed at the same time. It's bloody stiff, improvements are huge. Brake performance feels great on stock brakes. Car doesn't nose dive and feels way more solid. I get a subtle feeling like you can take corners a few kms faster with more confidence. After a more spirited drive on some good roads on a dry day I will give another summary.
Peace

Ok so what's necessary to fit them to an EK? Do you *have* to do a hub swap to 4x114.3 ITR hubs? What about front? I really just want bigger rotors... mine are so tiny...

get ek1 gli calipers/rotors. should bolt on to your cxi if you have cxi.
ek1 gli is 262 as well afaik. an ek1 gli my friend has 262mm stock from factory.
25th yr annoversary one if that would make any difference.

you're looking at a brake conversion so yeah hub swap, new rims (or you could get your ones re-gauged) i think fron'ts and backs are the same on the ITRs, should be easy enough if you know what you're doing. need disk, calipers, hub, piston and 4x114.3 rims off the top of my head

01-12-2011, 08:45 AM
I've got multi fit 4x100/4x114.3 rims so that's not an issue. So what's the difference in calipers between the EK and ITR? Just bigger pistons in the ITR? I feel like a bit of a noob lol but honestly there are so many brake swap setups.. honda certainly do a great job with making everything interchangeable. I'm competent mechanically, just working out exactly what the right parts are is important to me obviously, don't want to be getting things that don't bolt straight on!

edit: waaaiitt a minute... did a google search.. is the rear 96 spec calipers 7CLP13S? I already have these... I thought they'd be different - are the rotors on the 96ITR just bigger in the rear or something?
double edit: and these are the fronts? this guy did it easy as hell by just milling the bracket front ITR swap (http://www.lukekailburn.com/brakes.html)

I swapped over from a EK4 brake assy to ITR 96spec brake assy. The front ITR brake pistons were slightly larger than the EK4. I'm not sure about the rear's though cos I never compared them.

If your not sure about fitting... the best bet is to buy the whole brake/hub assy and swapping over from your current setup

JDM ITR 98spec = 36mm outer driveshaft size

Aight guys got some bad news... already posted in the DIY hardrace camber kit thread but this is kind of urgent so hopefully I can get an answer either here or there. anyway, I went to install my hardrace rear camber kit. Right hand side was easy, bolts came out with no problems at all. LEFT hand side however, both bolts connecting to the frame were so seized it's not funny. Tried WD40, some other penetrating fluid, big breaker bar - nothing worked. One of them the head is nearly stripped, and I can't get it out. The other one is even worse - I thought I'd gotten it because it made the lovely 'broken the seal' noise - but it's actually just spinning endlessly in the hole and won't come out. Umm... help? :(

yer i been raeding my thread and seeing this.. okay well u need go out and get urself these rachet/braker bar sockets, what they have is little teeth inside them which lock on the bolt, and allow you to undo them no matter how bad the damage is, if u got a sydney tools near u then they got em and there also a great help, but just chill out, cos freaking out about it only make things worse trust me lol let me know how u go :)

Got some time off work for holidays so got a few jobs done:

* installed new Top Gun ignition leads
* vacuumed interior, seats and cleaned plastics
* topped up coolant
* removed mugen sticker from boot lid
* sanded off rust and repainted number plate bracket + shined screws
* cleaned out air filter and intake piping:

This is what it looked like when the filter came out. This is industrial air conditioning filter material I put over the top of the pod with Yamaha foam filter oil (from my dad's old bike lol - sticky as sh*t it is!).

The white stuff is washing powder - got a bit on there before took photos. Opps.

http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m579/apalmucci/My%20Civic/DSC01461edit.jpg

Original pod filter still looks brand new underneath:
http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m579/apalmucci/My%20Civic/DSC01462edit.jpg

Found little pebbles at bottom of intake:

Why do you run the fairy floss over the filter? Filter on filter seems like a restriction to me?

Alvis
22-12-2011, 02:22 PM
Bit of an experiment really + bit of because I didn't have k&n oil and wasn't sure with using what I had on the k&n filter - but going by the results it filters brilliantly!

senna
22-12-2011, 02:31 PM
Ah ok, are you going to try it back to back with and without? No doubt it filters well, but is it causing a restriction?

 for trying something different though!

+rep

Alvis
22-12-2011, 02:45 PM
yeh I mean I guess the more filters you add the more you're trying to stop the air, so yes, I'd say there most likely is some added restriction.

thanks for the rep :D

gunna take off front bar tomorrow, reallign panels and heat gun the bumper, see if i can get it somewhat back in place.. hope chassis isn't deformed.

long story but will explain for my brotatoes

last night (around 8o'clock) went to my cousins christmas party in kirribilli - an hour from where i live, we got lost and ended up going back and forth from north syd to city about 3 times, i was stressed out of my mind coz i had a full car and my sister was backseat driving which made things worst.. was trying to find the house in the backstreets of kirribilli where i didnt know, was quiet, and i was stopped on a speed hump looking for the house, car came up behind me and there and was stressing out as there was no where to pull into for it to pass like i was getting yelled at to do haha, so i took a turn to the right, where i didn't notice a median strip with a short arrow sign on it was randomly in the middle of the road; it was blocked out by my mirror and front right column..

there was like no street lights and after i hit it this old knt came out of his house and wouldnt stop staring at his car, i told him to take a fking photo if he wants to have a good stare.. fking phaggot just made me even more mad considering i had my first ding

just glad no one got hurt

not entirely my fault, but its not entirely anyone elses. just stress + unknown backstreets and unsuspecting median strips.. feltbadman.jpeg

opened the hood to have a look what's going on, no radiator or internal damages, temperature stays normal and car is fine, if i can't fix it myself i'll just buy an ej8 bar

Well this isn't so much what have I done to my ek *today* more like over the last 3 weeks... but I digress.

First was hardrace rear camber arms and f7 LCAs. Still gotta go to a bolt shop tomorrow and get some longer bolts for the subframe..damn trade shops how dare they take extended holidays...
Next was new koni yellows and gc sleeves. They're in but I haven't set the ride height just yet.
I also found something strange when I took off the front passenger wheel...shitloads of grease everywhere. Outer CV boot was trashed. So I had to replace that which was an effort to say the least.I used the 'keep everything connected and make my own cv cone tool trick'. It worked but holy damn do my hands hurt. Aaaannddd then I checked the other side to find it was cracked but not yet destroyed, but I decided to replace it anyway. Then to top it off I found the drivers side steering rack boot is effed too. Dunno if i can be bothered doing it just now, even though its not a big job.
Wednesday afternoon I'm going down to bob Jane to get an alignment and have my new enkeis put on. I'll post pics of everything after then - assuming all goes to plan that is.

I'll post pics of everything after then - assuming all goes to plan that is.

might aswell do the rack boot before the alignment because u will need a alignemnt after u change it since the tie rod has to come off.

Repco sell a strechable boot that only requires the joint to come out, you don't need to seperate the inner and outer rods apparently because it comes with a cover you attach to the tie rod end so you can slide the boot over it

Try wholesale suspension in penrith, their ramps are pretty long so most slammed cars can still get up onto the hoist.

Senna = how much was the OEM type R knob?

$55 from Ebay seller in perth - awesome deal compared to the local Dealer - $142+GST!

Yeah it is heavier than the standard nugget, not sure by how much but it does feel better and makes the shift a little bit easier since there is more weight behind it

Swapped my Tegiwa Racing Wing Lifters over to Mr Alex Wing Lifters. Some might say why? I wanted to change to the original designer, than to rather have copies. Plus Mr Alex Wing Lifters are better quality. Better metals and screws/bolts used. And they offer a little bit more aggressive angles.
