CivicEGSI thats a nice looking ek, definately need moar pics when you get a chance :) Do you have any mods planed for it yet?
No worries mate always glad to help :)
Im thinking of getting a RSB and ASR brace next probably followed by some strut braces then coils later on when i got some spare coin or should i be getting the coils first instead? suspension and brakes are stock atm so need to start working on them i recon.
Everyone has their own opinion and depends what you can afford at the time, but from what I've read normally springs, shocks first, tower or strut bars, then sway bars but sway bars are a cheap and effective mod if you can't afford a spring/shock combo or coils (personally - I think coilovers are way overrated for everyday use - a good spring/shock combo is more than good enough for the road).
Just my 2 cents :)
^^ Thanks mate im too indecisive when it comes to buying upgrades lol, so any input is great:) with springs and shocks they arnt adjustable are they? that why i was thinking coils as i like to mess round with settings till i have it how i like it :)

Haha thanks mate my phone camera sucks at night, i took a picture in the moon light hoping to be able to see it slightly and thats all i could get lol, thats what it was like trying to find stuff in the glove box tho lol complete darkness.
DIY should be up in a few hours for those interested:thumbsup:

Each to their own, I wasn't willing to shell out $2k for good quality coils/install, but if you do some research there are some good spring/combos out there for less which then gives you the money to buy your sway bars and struts. Just a thought. Like I said overrated IMO for daily street use. You'll also find shocks such as Koni yellow are adjustable. This link might help you come to a decision on what's best for your application: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?142824-Bang-for-Buck-ek9-springs-shocks-on-Em1-Ek4

Moar LED for the ek :) For all of you that hate on darkness.Tired of not being able to see in the glovebox at night? Put 30 leds in there for ***** and giggles.
i did this a while back but then the stupid ebay LED light burned out lol
^^^ lol i use superbright leds and they seems to work well, they were recommended on the supra forums a while back and been using them since, they cost more but id rather pay a bit more and not have to redo things :)
Thanks Temp3st And Alvis for the info ill have a bit more of a read, im still a suspension noob expecially with hondas :) It will be a fairly long term project so i dont mind waiting and saving for good parts, i inherited the car from my aunt so i figured i might as well do it up nicely and keep it to remember her :)

would love to see some pics man, diy is always good when your bored.
Instead of saving and buying coils i ended up going to northfield yesterday and buying a set of Focal K2 speakers and some cabling to install my old alpine sub, Eclipse amp and head unit. Should be done today hopefully :)
http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd458/TbMindustrys/IMAG1076.jpg
I got the car stripped last night and the cables run under the carpet so ill be mounting the focals today(if all goes well) and then installing the old deck, sub and amp.

i didn't do anything very in depth to fix it. since i bought the car, the seatbelt has always twisted around on itself so I removed the bolt holding the end of the seatbelt to the chassis and simply turned the seatbelt 360 degrees to make it straight again and re attached the bolt and seatbelt. I then pulled the seatbelt out as far as it goes and found a kink and removed it. just sprayed some wd-40 down at the retractor mechanism and it's been working alot better since.
for the headlight restoration i used meguiars plastx clear plastic cleaner and a rotary buffer with buffer pad. i don't have any waterlogging so i don't know how to get that out i just had faded and discoloured headlights. yeah i thought as soon as i finished that i should have taken pics! i could probably round up some before and after shots if you'd like.
Too fix the retractor ive heard you wash the belt with hot soapy water, i sprayed silicone spray on mine when they wernt retracting unless i fed the belt in manually and it almost fixed it but they still go fairly slow and sometimes stop beofre they are fully retracted so im going to try washing mine soon :)
If you have water on the inside of the light then you need to take the light apart and clean then reseal it, ek lights are sealed with silicone IIRC so you will need to heat the seal to remove it, DIY's often recommend putting the lights in an oven but i dont like that idea so when i did my mates supra headlights i used a little fan heater to slowly heat the seal and pry the light open with a flat head :)

did you have to take off the back seat and the interior panel covering the seat belt to get to the mechanism?
mine doesnt retract very well since my step brothers were playing around inside my car one day. i have no idea what they were getting up to. now my selt belt requires coercion to retract, very strange.. DIY is not one of my strong points, but if it saves $628 ill definitely look into it.

dumb question - but would this product also work on headlight protectors (for gf's car)?

sure would since they are plastic just like headlights. Turtle wax sell a cheap kit at supercheap which requires no tools and still gives you a fantastic result. It consts of sanding pads, lubricant, headlight polish, and sealer.

yes they should work for any clear plastic. you don't need to use the tools I used either, it just gives a better result. you can just use two cloths (preferably microfibre) i believe. you can buy meguiars plastx at super cheap and i think it's around $20.

Did some more work on the Ek tonight, got the rest of the cabling run through the car, head unit installed and put the interior back in. just need to work out how im going to run the higher gauge speaker cable from the chassis to the door, think i might have to drill a new hole and buy a grommet or whatever they are called to keep the water out.

anyone else have problems with their headunit cutting out? check your switched IGN cable going to the headunit, mine wasnt getting 12V for some reason :/ i just bypassed it though, strait to the barrel. needless to say i've missed driving with music!
^^^ Nice one its so much better having good music when your driving :) What sort of sub do you have? I got an old alpine type R for the moment but ill upgrade it down the track, probably to a focal lol :)

i cant remember exactly, but i think it was a "400W" (lulz) clarion driver, and its hooked up to a decent powered orion amp. does nicely for what it needs :) next audio upgrade is splits for the front and rears or a 4 channel amp, but i dont know when thats gonna happen.
ideally i'd like to have a full setup with external crossovers and stuff to get cutoffs exactly where i want and eq's dealing with the cabin resonances and stuff (im a little bit of an audiophile) but that all depends on money :/ though my new HU does have a 3 band parametric eq which will be fun to play with when i get the time.
BTW, that looks like nice work there, i guaruntee mine setup wont look as nice :p
If you dont have lots of money then you can do what i do and just run a front stage with no rear fill, I just run focal splits in the front with a sub in the boot so it saves on having an extra set of speakers and you can get away with using a 4 ch amp to power the sub and splits if you have a good amp so you save on amps too. Id rather spend twice as much on the front where ill be sitting :)
Ive got an adjustabe passive crossover in each door panel :)
http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd458/TbMindustrys/IMAG1103.jpg
And ill either be upgrading the head unit or gettin a processor down the track to set it up properly :)

Not a proper one sorry but you basicly just drill 2 holes through 2 spare pin holes that are next to each other, then you drill out the centre of the 2 holes so it becomes one big oval shaped hole(hope that makes sense), you need to do it on the Male plug(cabin) and female plug(door) then pull the wire through. You could also add new pins in so you dont have to pull the wire through when you take the doors off but i wont be pulling them off often so ill leave it like that while i have it.
heres a pic i took of the plug and ive drawn where the wires are now in yellow and where i drilled in yellow.
http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd458/TbMindustrys/IMAG1099c.jpg
The hole in the door is where the female end of the plug is meant to be but mine was out being drilled when i took the pic but gives you an idea of where it is.

awesome posts man!
yeah i would consider having only the fronts and running one amp, but the amp i have for the sub atm is 2 channel bridged, so i mightaswell get a 4 channel and run the full setup, though when i upgrade my speakers, im definately spending more on the fronts :p
also props on the clean wiring there, i wouldhave just run an extra wire separate, which would work, but looks messier :P
Nice just thought id recommend it incase you havent thought of it before, if your not after spl it allwos you to get better sq for the price your payin :) if you already have a 2 ch depending on the quality you could run some front splits off that and buy a mono block for the sub which would leave you more for the splits and deadning, just an idea :) if your set on going 4 ch focal have a set great 6x9's that would work for rear fill and you wouldnt have to mess around trying to mount 6.5 inch splits in 6x9 holes(assuming you got an ek hatch dunno what the coupes or sedans run yet sorry:o), most people either love or hate focals so give em a listen before you buy but i love em, only speaker i buy for car audio :)
Thanks mate i was going to run the wire seperate but the plug is actualy attached to the door so youd have to drill through metal on the door and get an extra grommet for the door so i figured the plug would be better to drill, on alot of the other cars ive done stereos on there is a grommet at both ends so you can just feed the cable through or the plug is in the middle with a grommet on the cabin and door end so you just feed it though and bypass the plug in the middle, the ek1 was different and more time consuming tho :(

ok well it wasn't really today, but here's some things I've bought for my lady over the past couple of weeks...
Koni yellows/GC coilover sleeves with a set of extended top hats
http://imgur.com/GgRxM.jpg
http://imgur.com/TzJU4.jpg
Enkei J10 17x7 and D1 spec lug nuts
http://i.imgur.com/rfCzJ.jpg
Personalised plates - surprised they were available
http://i.imgur.com/gNYTJ.jpg
only issue is that weksos accidentally sent me the wrong spring rates (kind of GC's fault, kind of weksos for not checking because it's written clearly on the outside of the box from GC) so I have to wait god knows how long for weksos to sort it out and get me another set. Installation will have to wait. Wheels too - wanted to get it all knocked over in the same weekend :(
Picture me, receiving this awesome package I have been waiting weeks for, then opening it and going "I AM DISAPPOINT :("

Yo Alvis where did you find your Mugen Wing from? Would love that on my EM1
yeh to cut a long story short I only found out after a year that I bought it that the guy from Honda-Tech sold me a replica wing (badges are genuine) - he claims he didn't know and got it from his supplier in Japan, so I think it's an aftermarket Japanese one or something... anyway i was pretty cut when I found out... tried to contact him and he told me yeh yeh I'll give you a refund but nothing, nada, nil. Oh well... live and learn I guess.
You might be able to find a couple of genuine ones on Honda-Tech but they're asking like $800+ shipping to Oz. Else, just get yourself a replica :)

430F/350R. They sent me the "off the shelf" ones which are 340/250. Pretty big difference, no way was I gonna settle for those. It's an unfortunate mistake, but it happens I guess. Just sucks that it will take >2 weeks to fix it probably.

Header wrapping makes a huge difference also! All you need is some fender washer bolts to bling the rest up (I can get you a set of 20pcs) ;)

Look good! Yeah man I will have to try my best to get it looking professional. I'm
Not all that keen on the painting around the dohc vtec on rocker so I'm gonna have to sand it off after painting it lol
Yeh man just sand it down a bit first to get it flat with a solid block(so it doesnt round the edges of the letters), then paint it and sand the paint off with a solid block when its dry. Easy as :) If you wanted a different colour on the DOHC VTEC thats a bit more work lol :)

Lol nah want oem colour on it so silver base. I will give it a go! Thanks for the tips once again dude lol are you a mod yet :P so many helpful posts
Lol i havent done that before but ill pm you how id do it if you like, if your just going silver whats wrong with just sanding it back to metal as thats silver coloured? saves you the effort of painting it twice :) If your doing 2 layers and most of your engine will be black id think about black vavle cover with red DOHC VTEC that would be a good combo IMO but each to their own :) Lol narr im not a mod yet, only been here a few months so bit new for that id say lol.

is the car more prone to understeer or over steer now??? Iv found even with a thicker sway bar, its not always the way to go with coilovers, than again, you gotta sort out the spring rates vs swaybar thickness

Yesterday was engine oil and today was gearbox.
Went for Castrol VMX80 and the fill plug was a bitch to remove, as I didnt have a suitable ring spanner and there is little room for a socket
Big difference in smoothness changing gears which surprised me as the old oil looked in good condition with no foaming.
My sister owned this car since new and always got it serviced at the main dealer, so now I'm wondering what gearbox oil they use as the Castrol VMX80 is such an improvement.
Also changed the plugs, fitted NGK ZFR5J-11 and that improved acceleration a bit.
Tomorrow will clean the throttle body

My EK was overheating today, Think one of the radiator hoses has burst of below the I.M. Took it to a workshop so we'll see what they say. Fingers crossed nothing serious...
Ordered Hasport engine mounts, New torque mounts and a replacement cat.
Filled all the locks(doors, ignition and boot) with graphite powder.
Cleaned and checked all the door and boot seals.
Cleaned and silicon sprayed the boot/hatch struts.
Washed the seatbelts with hot soapy water then risned them with hot water to fix the retractors.
Cleaned floor mats.

Interesting i wasnt aware of that :) Seems like a good idea tho :)
did you take the seat belts off first? My driver side seat belt is affected by this problem..
You can take the belts off but i went for the lazy way first and tried to clean them while they were still attached and without removing any panels.
I just grabbed a bucket of Hot water(as hot as you can go without burning your hands) with a few drops of concerntrated dishwashing liquid and a clean cloth and sat in the car with the bucket on my lap. Then you pull the belt out as far as it goes and put as much of the belt in the bucket as you can then start rubbing the belt with the cloth soaked in hot soapy water.
once you have rubbed down the whole belt i just wrapped it around the drivers seat and handbrake to keep the belt out so it would dry faster. Once its dry if its still not retracting wash it with hot water and no soap to remove any excess soap.
If your still having problems after that you can silicon spray the belt to help it retract.

are they the two front mounts?
I installed innovative recently but left those front two in there.. A bit of redundancy I suppose..
GW! Hasport mounts look great! What compound urethane did you go for?
Yeh the torque mounts are the ones at the front of the engine, it would help to leave them on there but i had OEM ones filled with polyurethane that were too solid and transfering vibrations to the cabin so i removed mine :)
Thanks they look alot better than the old ones i recon :) I got the 62A rated ones, Vibration is less than i thought it would be which is good. I went from mounts filled with sikaflex 255 ES to these and they seem to be softer surprisingly.
