DA9 Radiator.

Guys, we have a b18cr in an ED9.
B18's have 32mm radiator hose inlet.outlet.
our b16 ef8 radiator is blocked beyond repair.
have replaced it with a normal ED civic/CRX radiator.
Problem is that all the ED radiators have a 28mm hose inlet/outlet.
I've been told that the DA9 radiator has the 32mm outlet/inlets and also fits the ED/EF CRX chassis.
Can you DA9 guys please go out and measure your DA9 radiators for me please???
I want to have confirmation before I go out and buy a DA9 radiator.
Rep given to helpful information.

thanks

you only need eg6/dc2r lca's for DC2R suspension not DC2. DC2 rear suspension is a straight swap (NB: da9 rear dampers are alot longer than dc2 dampers).
Both DC2 and DC2R front suspension requires the front drop forks from a dc2r or a dc2 to be fitted to a da9.

also i took my bumper and lights out today to extend the intake and in the wheel well there is part of the intake sytem i think that doesn't connect to anything exept a hole which leads to the filter area but looks like some sort of filter for water or something?, its shaped weirdly can someone tell me what it is. sorry i can't really explain it

Rayle
20-09-2010, 11:33 PM
I'm pretty sure the procedure is different detailed to that on g2ic. The bumper supports for the USDM and AUDM are different, if you look at the 4th pic in the teg tip you can see what I mean.

It should be much easier than that (not that I've done it myself), hopefully you can just buy a 92-93 front bumper with supports and just bolt it right up. I'd like to know too...

SL33K
21-09-2010, 11:33 AM
It's really easy to do you will need the 92-93 support and brackets as the 90-91 support won't fit in the bumper and the brackets are different.

espionage85
21-09-2010, 12:13 PM

wrecker is your best bet. if i remember correct ( it was 4 years ago when i did it on one of my DAs) the only difference in the brackets is the dept of it. bolt placement is exactly the same.

my guess is that the brackets r on the bumper? or are they separate?

Rayle
22-09-2010, 06:06 PM
It's the brackets that the bumper attaches to, where you place the bolts behind the indicators. Those squarish metal things that are bolted to the chassis in front of the radiator that your bumper bolts to.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong..

that is right.. i think you need the deeper brackets.. from memory they are about 2 inches thick or more..

if you use the thinner ones... maybe 1 inch thick, when you instal the bumper it would look pushed in like youve had an accident

i read somewhere that you can get good power increase by getting bigger injectors, this true? and from what ive read you would need a chipped ecu as well...sorry im still learning bout engines so no clue atm

stevo716
25-09-2010, 01:19 AM
u usually only get bigger injectors when turboing , or running silly N/A things like porting allowing more air in so u need more fuel, plus u need to tune it
alone as a mod wont do anything

I just bought another DA9 today....

should I feel guilty? such a DA whore now!

not sure yet exactly what I am going to do with this one, it has a head gasket leak or cracked head or something, 1 dodgy CV, crunching gearbox and rear wheel bearings are gone, apart from that though it is all good!

couldnt go past a $700 bargain though, it even has rego for another 10 days!

tossing up whether I should replace the engine and box and fix it up a bit then sell or totally dismantle as a parts car. I am definitely taking off the hatch struts, taillights and interior to put on the other 2 cars but we will see what happens with the rest.

quick question,
how do you guys mount a single din cd player in your DAs?
ontop or below the tray?

because my deck and tray aint sitting right lol
both slightly sagging and when i hit vtec the deck moves because i have nowere to mount it

any suggestions?

doesnt move at all,

what i did was take of the bottom of the original cassete deck (bit which is held by two screws at the back) and glue that to the mounting sleeve of the cd player, so it sits exactly were the original sat. btw its a bitch to get off but worth it

you should make up a bracket that screws to the back of the unit and then in to the frame that goes around the back of the DIN area.

Just use a thin metal strip that you can get at any stereo install place ( maybe supercheap?), they even have holes pre punched.

I am sure I had a writeup somewhere....maybe its a some 100 page back when i did my projector fitment i wrote something about it. I used a hair dry and have to be patient when u take lenses out.
using hair dryer or heat gun will make sure you won't melt anything else unnecessary. but that means you can only lift up a section of the lense at a time.

I am not sure exactly what you are after, but if you need a front wheel bearing just go to CBC Bearings and ask them. The part number is HO125A suits DA9 Integra, and should be about $65 each.
I have a spare but if I read correctly you need 2, plus i would be unwilling at this stage to part with it in case I decide to fix up the red car.

BTW- I believe Honda ask about $160 a pop.

If you are going to do all that then you might want to go the whole hog and do the swap properly-

http://technet.ff-squad.com/how-to/5lug.ef-da/

This is NOT just a bolt on swap, if you bolt on then you will have camber issues that cant be corrected by just a simple kit, lowering does help a lot though

So disappointed, my DA9 failed roadworthy for the second time. First time there was a shitload of issues, this time there are two:

A clunking noise from the rear end. This might actually have been tools in the spare wheel compartment moving around, otherwise it's probably bolts torqued incorrectly.

Other one is a perished 'linkage' bushing from the rear suspension, I'm guessing this is the pivot bushing connecting the LCA to the chassis. I'm going to get all of the LCA bushings pressed out because I don't want to spend 12 hours of my life burning the rubber out and then hacksawing the shells, anyone know a machine shop in the SE suburbs of Melbourne?

Need to buy another fscking unregistered vehicle permit too...

nope just bolt the whole rear on. it will change the offset slightly i believe, as the DC2R has a slightly wider track (hubs sit wider)

fronts are the harder part.

Also- you only need a fuel pump if you are upgrading to much higher power or the pump is getting old and cant push the pressure anymore.

I went through making this swap, good not so long ago (car had just been slammed on itr front knuckles).
you want to get a new pair of front wheel bearings to suit da9.
then you get the front itr hubs machined to suit your new da9 wheel bearings.
and then press the itr hub/da9wheel bearings onto your standard da9 front knuckles.
this will give you an oem alignment at standard ride height.
oh yeah and watch out for gutter rash, this widens the track of your da9.
brake proportioning valve doesn't need to be changed, but the master cylinder does if you want real nice pedal feel.
rear you just bolt up the itr trailing arms and you're done.

Hey all,

Thought I'd throw this open to the forum as I need some opinions. I'm currently riding on Koni Yellow/ Ground Control combo with camber kit and looking to add a bit more to my suspension.
These are the options I'm thinking of:
1. ASR subframe brace with 24mm rear sway (approx$390US ex deliv.)
2. ST combo front (24mm) and rear(19mm) sway bars (approx $280US ex deliv)
3. Some form of front strut bar + just the 19mm rear sway from ST with no subframe brace (approx $300-350US ex deliv)

What do you reckon is the best bang for buck here? Is the front sway worth doing at the same time as the rear? I wish I was made of money and
could just go for the obvious - buy all of them! lol. Opinions appreciated, even more so if you've run any of these parts before.

Thx, Joe.

FR33K

I was running exactly the same set up... although I dont have experience with all 3 combos above, i did find that a quality front strut brace + rear sway made a real noticeable difference to my handling

jforsta
19-10-2010, 12:41 PM
Cheers appreciate the feedback. Yeah cars feels really nice once its in the corner but would be good to minimise some of that initial body roll on turn in. I'm guessing the rear sway would help that?
And a little extra stability in the front could be found from the Front upper strut?

Would the difference be significant between say a Megan racing (cheapo) and Cusco Front strut? Oh yeah... did you upgrade the front sway too?

Thx mate.

Spoon DA9R
19-10-2010, 02:45 PM
if u want less roll then u need both front and rear sway bar.

strut doesn't stop ur car from rolling..only stops ur car from flexing while its rolling
strut will make the steering and the turn in tighter
sway will keep the car flatter

string
19-10-2010, 05:36 PM
Leave the front swaybar stock and upgrade the rear. Roll resistance at either end will reduce body roll, and adding it at the rear will help reduce some understeer.

Strut bars are one of the worst bang for buck mods you can do.

Hey Jon,
have you changed out the MC for a DC2R one? Did you swap the whole Booster/MC combo or just swap the MC? I have just upgraded to 282mm fronts and it does feel slightly mushy at first but when you press the pedal a bit more it bites really well. I dont feel that modulating the brake is an issue at all either.

Just wondering if it is worth the hassle of getting in there to swap it all out (tis a bitch to access)

Hmm thx for the advice guys. Maybe I'd be better off investing a little more in the rear sway ( asr with brace perhaps ?) and leave the front sway and strut for now?

How big do you think you can go in mm before a subframe brace is required?
ST have a 19mm
Progressive make a 22mm
ASR offer a 24mm with subframe brace

Thx for the tips ay.

A-man
31-10-2010, 06:47 PM
sounds odd bout the wheel man have u got oil in ur p/s?

ur second prob sounds like ur master cly might b buggered. u can try bleeding it but im pretty sure its stuffed

the master cly has a tandem setup inside so it runs 2 clyinders for the braking system so 1 goes to the front 1 for the rear if one fails you will loose half of ur braking system sometimes they bypass inbetween each other. so try bleeding it otherwise replace the master cly... unless u can see it leaking somewhere again unless being there its hard to say...

ive had one i did for a mate his would go straight to the floor sometimes but would come good if he kept pumping it back.

I've had brake booster issues with both my DA9s and got similar symptoms. I couldn't justify fixing it as the brake boosters were $700 a pop for new ones and I don't trust second hand brake gear. I just put up with it. When my master cylinder went my pedal just dropped to the floor, before that it had a rock solid pedal then about 6 months later I started getting the squishy pedal, I just learnt to live with it.

Which will be illegal. But my point was more why spend $450 (probably closer to $600 after shipping) on the replacing the hatch, if you've ever lifted one without the glass in it they weigh SFA. If you're that concerned with dropping weight by all means replace the glass with perspex, that will give you a decent weight reduction, but replacing steel with CF will make so little difference.

Also considering how nose heavy the DAs are I'd be more inclined to try and lose weight upfront, before I started trying to take it out of the back. Unless of course your just doing it for the strip, but then you'd be much better off spending the money else where.

On an unrelated note did you ever end up selling your Da9?

well jon_51 wants everything he can get his hands on lol..was just a half kidding suggestion...just that i've thought about it myself in the past..but i agree with u..i could never justify spending that much on the back end of the car when the front is where the diet needs to be targeted

his current car is almost complete...other than engine/box, front/rear cf bits, maybe a front lip in the near future, front and rear strut, ...most other handling bits had been done :p

but its on its way out and instead of buying a 2nd hand box for $700 without knowing the history i thought id rebuild mine with different ratios with this:

Y1 (EF8/9 JDM CRX SiR – Close ratio LSD cable box) Honda genuine parts:
2.052 - Gear, Countershaft 2nd - $185
Sleeve Set, Synchronizer (1-2) - $385
Nut, Hex., 23mm - $15
Sleeve set, synchronizer (3-4) - $315
Sleeve set, synchronizer (5) - $220
1.416 - Gear, Mainshaft 3rd - $165
1.103 - Gear, Mainshaft 4th - $165
0.870 - Gear, Mainshaft 5th - $165

in my EG im running a b20vtec with s4c EK9 box, and apparently these are equivelant ratios^

Hey guys, has anyone ever purchased anything from a fellow member and never received the product after payment?
I bought $500 worth DA panels off here and got basically nothing that was useable, guard was bent, bumper cracked, wiring cut off way too short on the hatch plus the guy even took all the bulbs out of the lights. Also driven 6 hours to newcastle to pickup a rolling wreck to find he had stripped everything else from it and the radiator was cracked and most of the panels were stuffed. One of these members is still active, you know who you are.

I don't trust anyone on a car forum.

Easiest of all would be a B16A from a DA6, everything bolts up, only wiring is a bit different and they come standard with a cable gearbox. not sure if it is a huge improvement though, you lose torque but gain revs and top end power

espionage85
22-11-2010, 08:02 PM
b20 non vtec, should cost no more than $1500 installed
massive torque..
i have a b20/b16 vtec and i hardly even get into the vtec zone because it has so much torque

edit: short ratio gearbox helps alot also

Got a friend with a CRX DELSOL JAP SPEC sitting there it is a 1.6cly vtec. Not sure what kind of motor never took a good look, the gearbox is gone but the engine is fine.

JapSpec Vtec engine.. im gona assume wil make my DA a rocket his willing to give me the engine, Just curious anyone know differences and problems i might run into?

I have a YS1 Cable Gearbox atm and installed i just got the standard b18a

ull lose torque, somethin u might want considering da is heavier than crx, but the gearbox will bolt up if u use the ys1 clutch and flywheel,
long as the engine is a b series, there all pretty conbatible, prob is ys1 gearbox is long ratio and will be crap for a b16, so basicly itll be slower than what you currently got

you can build your own box

The Y1 was the best cable B-series box from the SiR CRX with the closest ratios.
But the final drive is 4.266...
The YS1 has the same ratios as EK4/9 Civic VtiR/Type R incl the 4.4 final drive...

Either way, we can help as we've done this job before.
Ballpark quote is as follows:
Remove & replace gearbox charge is $400 - B-series honda
Dissasemble, clean, inspect, assemble gearbox - $250
Sundries (OEM MTF06 gear oil, sealants & disposal of waste products, gearbox seals & crush washers) - $150
+ Any extra work charges are additional. (Repair of existing parts etc)
+ Any parts required are additional

Here's a quick price list for you if we supply the parts:
Y1 (EF8/9 JDM CRX SiR – Close ratio LSD cable box) Honda genuine parts:
2.052 - Gear, Countershaft 2nd - $185
Sleeve Set, Synchronizer (1-2) - $385
Nut, Hex., 23mm - $15
Sleeve set, synchronizer (3-4) - $315
Sleeve set, synchronizer (5) - $220
1.416 - Gear, Mainshaft 3rd - $165
1.103 - Gear, Mainshaft 4th - $165
0.870 - Gear, Mainshaft 5th - $165

YS1 (92~93 JDM Integra – STD ratio LSD cable box) Honda genuine parts:
2.105 - Gear, Countershaft 2nd - $185
Sleeve Set, Synchronizer (1-2) - $385
Nut, Hex., 23mm - $15
Sleeve set, synchronizer (3-4) - $315
Sleeve set, synchronizer (5) - $220
1.458 - Gear, Mainshaft 3rd - $165
1.107 - Gear, Mainshaft 4th - $165
0.848 - Gear, Mainshaft 5th - $165

Now before you get excited,
The down side to all this is most of these parts are back order out of Japan.
Some only being made to order as the boxes are so old now.

M-Factory also make the following aftermarket parts for your box.
4.928 Final drive gear
Carbon-Lined 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th Synchro Rings (Brass ring only - no hub & sleeve)
Magnetic drain plugs
& can supply all bearings etc too
(PM e240 for M-Factory products)

Hope that helps

im going to as mine it gone, no more 3rd, or 5th
so i thought i may aswell go all out n do the whole thing
