ive got access to these seats, if i had time i might try to fit my rails on, but that wont be for at least another 3 or 4 weeks !

and if they do.. might keep the seats in there..

but dont count on me to experiment coz knowing me i "wont be bothered"

America is your best bet.
They have the most support for the B18a however depending on what your after you can use certain parts from other b series engines.
Spending big on the B18a wont get you very far and your wallet will be alot lighter.
Just read up on the pros and cons of that motor and you will see what I mean.

TODA AU has "vtec Killer cams" for the b18a, might have the gears also.

Rods are easy to source, just depends on the quality/strength your after?

another qs where in NSW can i buy a catback 4 my da9 or anything close to it?

I would say custom with a muffler of your choice is your best.

That said I do believe Tanabe, OBX & Skunk2 make a c/back for the DA's.

Another option which I'm unsure of is a Modified CRX c/back.
I imagine you would have to extend the length of the after cat
pipe section, as well as measuring the muffler/exhaust section that
runs across the rear bar.

I'm keen to find out if this is possible, though I don't have access
to either car atm to see if a modified crx c/back would work.

Anyone out there with access to a DA9 & CRX that could kindly measure both
systems to see if this is possible???

another qs where in NSW can i buy a catback 4 my da9 or anything close to it?
you can get a hks one off ebay from the states, but shipping is a killer.
I have a custom pressed mild steel one with a stainless tip of my choice, that didn't cost an arm and a leg, and I'm pretty happy with it. but then again, I could've payed over twice that much, and had a full stainless madrel bent one with a cool name brand.
the aussie dollar wasn't quite as good when I bought though so maybe it's a more viable option now ... probably cheaper then a locally built custom mandrel bent one

yoyo, i am gonna buy a b16a. not b16a2/1 or whatever i dunno, dont know much infomation about it. but its a good price and genuine 56,000kms. doesnt come iwth dizzy or anything just a complete engine. what else do i need to finish the setup onto my da9?

All 89-93 DA9's have the same curb weight yeah?

According to the Redbook

the 89-91 weighs 1122KG & the 92-93 weighs 1112KG.

Is this true or just a typo on Redbook site?

string
16-04-2008, 06:27 PM
I wouldn't believe Redbook or even the manual. Mine (89-91 chassis) weighed in at 1060kg with around 10L of fuel, spare tyre, no heater-box or air-con of any description. So ~1075kg might be a fair estimation with no fuel at all.

you dont need to change to obd1 harness. skip this by getting your ecu swapped or chipped. Only go obd1 if you are opening up the engine or adding forced induction eg turbo/nitrous.
I say all this from my own experience from an engine swap and not from what i have read of the internet.

i have same experience and would have to disagree, IMO. the obd1 is a easier ecu to tune and program then the obd0. there is much more flexability with the obd1.

also on that note, in no contrast of making a sale. honestly (i forgot i had it spare). i have a obd0-obd1 conversion harness. real cheap. pm me for more info.

if u look at the standard engine mounts they have holes around where it joins... (yes) u just fill them with sikaflex then leave them in the sun all day and put em in later... this in turn makes them solid rubber mounts like what u see on that website...

can u use the factory b18a dizzy on a b16a?... because b16a dizzys r bs expensive however i mite know where i can get a second hand one...

Otherwise on ebay try find a msd or even a aftermarket dizzy for a b16 i got a MSD coil and rotor cap to replace stock coil for 120 bucks delivered which is a good buy i think....

and wont the g/box be the same as a b18a (if its going in a da9?)

string
18-04-2008, 09:28 PM
Yes you can but you'll have to grind off one of the attaching legs to make way for the VTEC solenoid.. Then you will still have to bolt it up with only one bolt. It didn't leak for me.

Samm928

i asked adrian from toda, he said i would probably require OBD1 as the OBD0 vtec ecu is hard to source. vtec wont kick in unless i get a OBD0 vtec ecu which is i think the CRX JDM 89-91 i think. which is hard to source.

engine mounts remain the same.
gearbox remains the same.
*ecu i gotta change from my knowledge.
dizzy has to be changed as its non vtec dizzy. aftermarket dizzys and stuff im not so sure about but i'll do my research tonight.

any else i might need to know ? if you can, point form please =)

Seeming as the CD5 Accord lip fits the 89-91 front bar (with modifications).

I assume the a type R styled lip for a CD5 would fit the 92-93 front bars with no cutting etc.

(apart from the drilling/screwing side of things)

http://i11.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/d5/6f/efdb_1.JPG

Right or Wrong?

As there a heap cheaper to purchase than the DA9 Type R styled lip.

lol, you're not disagreeing about anything.
To run his b16 swap effectively he can stay obdo instead of obd1.
I was merly stating what can run his swap.
Besides both ecus need to be chipped or opened up to use them for ROM tuning anyways.

lol due to the convex shape of the underside of our DA's (mainly caused by the exhaust) the ride height depicted is not street drivable, as the only place you could drive this height is on a track or a runway.

You couldn't take that too the track. Insufficient suspension travel, unless you plan on cruising around at 60kph.

got a quote the sticker...coz of the 2 colors...will be $30 bucks....approx size is 10cmx20cm can choose color with white background.......

btw...2 nites ago..decided to play with the dash....changed to all RED LED...it was too dim....
then last nite....i took the filter off the stop of the dash that shines the light onto the needles to give it color....but it became too bright like this..and the aircon section is still too dim
it felt so stupid....
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01377.jpg

then tonite...i thought...argh..just wanna make it look all bright and new...so changed the aircon to white...needle to white..put original filter back on but left the back of dash red...and
WAHLAR
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01378.jpg

BUT now i have 1 problem...almost all bulbs on my cars are LEDs...interior...indicator...brake...parkers...ex cept HIDs....but coz of all that...and i think the car electric circuit design is old...whenever i press the brakes...the parker and interior dash will turn on with the brake light..hahaha...but its not bright..just very very dim....but noticable..very annoying...dunno how to fix..any electrician can gimme a hand on wot resistors i need? i tried calculating...totally forgotten about physics and don't understand it anymore....and jaycar don't wanna help me either...

DA9jeff

just double check your connections, if the leds work then the voltage is okay- but no led will cause the brakes to link to parks etc that is definately a bad conection.

is there a write up possible for changing all the DA9 dash lights around like that? i know how to do most of it, but if i can get a guide telling me where screws are, bulb sizes (t5 and t10) needed and where, and this filter and such? would be good to know.

how did you know when your fuel pump is on the way out?

atm when i hit above 4000rpm by tacho starts bouncing between 1000 and 8000 rpm but when i dont accelerate it drops to an accurate reading
it also backfires, misses and looses alot of power at or above this rev range

and if i hit the rev limiter or close to it my car will stall and will take 5-10 attempts to start it going again

www.g2ic.com

they only have write up for dash...thing is there are bulbs that i doubt u can find (eg. the swtiches for the hazard and demister uses this extremely small bulb and i doubt any companies makes them.)

but for the dash...it uses both t5 and t10... if u go to auto barn, buy 1 pair of T10, then 1 set of 5x T5, thats all u need to change the dash and the aircon section.

there are 16 screws in total, i m too tired to undo mine to show u again, but if u cant find it on the g2ic forum let me know i'll take some simple pics to show u where the screws are

could it possibly be ur main fuel relay.... that mite explain the not starting again its coz ur relay gets hot and the contacts become weak and wont turn the fuel pump on....

mine does it...

mine does sorta the same thing on start up and when u drive round for the first few minutes it looses its response and takes a while to accelerate... i dont really no what it is.. any ideas

i changed my fuel pump (to a warlboro coz of the up coming upgrades) and didnt change the prob i think its related to that main relay... but there 120 bucks new.. ebay in us have them alot cheaper

here are a few pics of where u need to undo/find the screws:

2 screws here:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01380.jpg

pull the plug off the switch and use a screw driver to pull out the cover, there are 2 screws under there:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01381.jpg

pull both the plug out and use a small flathead screw driver or a blade would be better from the bottom to pull the whole face out, 2 screws in there:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01385.jpg

use blade to peel this clip out..1 screw in there:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01386.jpg

remove this panel and u'll find 2 screws under the cover on either side of the steering wheel:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01387.jpg

finally u can choose to pull out each of this switches to unclip the wires at the back first coz they are very short at the back (just use a screw driver to peel it out from the bottom or u can undo them when u unclip the whole dash off:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/SpoonDA9R/DSC01388.jpg

careful of the airvents...be gentle or u'll snap the clips holding them onto the dash...specially the one on the right

after u take this plastic cover off...there is only 4 screws that is holding the dash which are right in front of ur eyes, but there are 3 cables u'll have to slide ur hand in to undo.

this is best i can do without taking my dash apart again...

Spoon DA9R
22-05-2008, 11:52 AM
i have thought about that.but taht would make the dash too bring...its like when i took the this blue filter out, the whole dash glow in red..it was too much

LaZaZaL89
22-05-2008, 12:34 PM
Damn, maybe a "weaker" neon might work?

Spoon DA9R
22-05-2008, 01:21 PM
thing is if u put neon on the top of the dash to replace the 2 bulbs that shine from the top (its purpose its to provide light for the needles as the needles are kinda fluorecent white so refects forever color shines on it), its really hard to get the proper amt of light right. when i took filter off, it look cool for the first nite when the whole dash glowed, but 2nd nite..it became really annoying.

but give it a try...never know may turn out fine! shows us a pic after its done

LaZaZaL89
22-05-2008, 01:34 PM
Yeah, my problem is, my 2 bulbs are dead, and I can barely see my needles at night :O... So im trying to come up with a decent looking solution... Ill try get a neon to stick in there and see how it turns out.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and thought i should post my question here.

I just bought a 1990 integra ls and i've been told by the seller that the gear box is stuffed and needs replacing. How much money am i looking at in order to replace an old gear box for this car? has anyone done this before?

any help would be great! thanks.

i'm planning to call hanny's performance for a quote tommorrow, i think they're my specialised local honda fixers ?

- also he said the two front CV's needed fixing, any idea on this?

sorry im not so car smart xD

any ideas on the cost of replacing the gearbox?

thescotty

probz like 400$ maybe less maybe more... unless u get a good deal ay?

sangbui
28-05-2008, 10:20 AM
ahh thanks,

i just called hanny's performance and i spoke to a guy named robert and he told me to replace a gear box would require him to find a second hand one costing($800) or get a newone($1200) and than to install it ($350) totalling around($1150 - $1550) i think this sounds a little pricey but i've never replaced a gear box before so i dont know.
He also told me the cv joints would cost $200 each.

so what do you guys think about the pricing? is it cheap too expensive? is there a better place to go? i'm located in sydney south west area around fairfield-cabramatta region.

thanks for your help!

average price for a b18a LS man gearbox is about $800 and that inc. changeover.

not true... quality of the material of the rotors matters. how they react with heat etc... determines how they perform... or not

Usually when the gauge plays up its the thermostat.
Changed mine and the temp read fine again.

Forgot.
You can get ryco or other aftermarket brands but its best to stick with a genuine one from Honda.
I have the receipt somewhere. If I find it I'll let you know otherwise just give em a buzz and ask for a price.
Eastern Honda at Doncaster is 9856 1333
Ringwood Honda 9262 6666

You can test thermostats by putting them in hot water to see if they open.

The thermostat is on the lower radiator hose not upper - what you've circled is just the water outlet of the head. Unfortunately it's a lot more difficult to get to.

check to see if the thermastat isnt scored on the sides ... it could be getting stuck...

its usually pretty easy to inspect. also make sure u know what temp the thermastat is opening...

there usually 10 bucks from super cheap its a easy job ive done it recently

that would be mine i think well im on another distrubutor/coils and my tacho is disconnected because my mechanics think its giving feedback to it causing it to skitz but my tacho and ecu have been all checked out outside of the car its running ok atm but its loud

running no mufflers with just a cat on a 2 1/4 system because the muffler was about to fall off so i got the hacksaw and cut it off

i fixed the problem..the dickhead repair guy put to much coolant in, pratically no water just coolant...so thinking thats wat screwed the thermostat up, so i didnt have to replace it i just chuck alot of water in the radiator...cheers for helping

1200 for a gearbox and labour sounds about right.
average price for a b18a LS man gearbox is about $800 and that inc. changeover.

You serious? I bought both my tegs for 1k, each, as wrecks. 172k on the manual 140k on the auto. I'm yet to see a stock wreck go for over $1200. Surely you can pick up a decent condition manual for $400 or less.

Fitting I agree with, an front wheel drive box will be pricey.

fwd g/boxs r easy to put in.... i did it and new clutch in a day
on a da9

so the thermastat was fuked because of to much coolant and not enough water???

so was it ur coil that was broke or ur dizzy?? (ignition module?)

where did you buy them as wrecks? auctions?

Yeh I bought them through pickles and fowles auctions. I think theres a grey DA9 with a rear hit in a melbourne auction soon. Google for their sites, their web pages are pretty good.

A fwd gearbox is not easy to remove in comparison to rwd. And remember a day is 8 hours of labour at $40 an hour thats $320 and good luck getting a mechanic for under $50 that knows his stuff most are 60 - 70 up here.
