off to find disc brake conversion set, pretty sure the engineer will want to see them

rears that is? Just go for DC2 rears, with abs plugs an all.... Only thing u will need is a bigger BMC+Booster from DC2 PM

the booster and MC are fine, the weak link is the prop valve as it's too high as drums need more pressure than discs, so a bit of work ahead for a weekend

its been almost 6 months now since i done the conversion, no problems at all, pads are all fine and the rotors, no cracks at all, but other wise, the RTA bushes are starting to show signs of wear, small cracks or so, gonna replace them soon

For a peace of mind, should probs machine the rotors and get fresh pads, and also check the wheel bearing as u dont wanna b tearing down the hub months later down the track just to replace the bearing, and also the RTA bushes

And hopefully, by the end of the year gonna go 282mm rotors an Ek9 calipers :D

I'd go the hard race bushes (or a spherical bearing rta arrangement), I'm not too impressed with Honda's rta bushes, they're bit under engineered.

I'll post some pics when I install my rears

cleaned and vacuumed SR3s + stock seats I pulled out a couple of weeks back (had like weird sheepskin stuff on them from covers, but nothing a little upholstery cleaner couldn't fix :))

Also weighed stock EK1 seat = 14.5kg with rails (approx.) This is about 4kg lighter than an SR3. I'd say the majority of the extra weight is in the heavier EK9 rails.

Recaro SR3 = 18.5kg with EK9 rails (approx.)

EK1.6LCIV
28-05-2011, 08:59 PM
race seats sometimes are generally heavier as their gains out weight them being heavier

compared to the stock ej8 seats I had, if the sr3s weighed 5kgs more it wouldnt matter, I'd just shave it off somewhere else as their benefits are worth it, being rebuildable also plays a huge factor

once all the minor details are done and installed, dc2 shifter, rear swaybars, then gonna move onto the major stuff like rta, definite gonna get hardrace gear

was witness to the assault of a young lady last night in my car.

Just came out of Novotel Wollongong after having coffee with friends and my cousins gf saw a girl with a guy over the top off her pushing her down on the ground of the car park, screaming at her - telling her if she hits him back he'll hit her back wrose, putting his hands around her neck - I couldn't see cause had reading glasses on so changed to driving glasses, dialled triple zero, reported location and requested immediate help.

Then the girl got up and walked away and the guy went in the other direction (lost sight of him behind the trees), and it looked as though she got her phone out to call a friend and that was the end of it; then the guy came running across the carpark and bailed her up on a tree - I lost sight of them behind a car in the carpark, and at this point I could here her screaming and yelling - so while still on the phone to the cops I got my 12 or so inch maglite torch out from under the drivers seat to go and see if could help (they're probably about 30 metres away at this point) and as I was going over, thank God for late night car meets - 4 or 5 car loads of modified cars with about 15 or so guys came past (they could see what was going as well from where they were) and got him the **** off her.

Left the details with the cops so see what happens - she had a few cuts on her lip and the poor thing was so shaken up - she must have been no taller than 5 foot four and weighing no more than 50kg. Apparently she'd been in the r/ship with the guy for 3 years.

pretty sad...

On order are some tanabe springs, hardrace bushes and linkages for the front sway bar which should be interesting.

Heres the diy i did, was pretty epic, still need to do the clock and the auto shifter sourround(the lit up section next to the shifter), i tried to acetone it and it wiped off the P R N D etc so ill have to find another one or 2 and work out a way to get the amber off without wrecking it lol.

Thanks, i think it makes it look a bit more modern and updated so im happy. Ill be working on the Digital clock next week to try and get it white and/or brighter so ill take some pics when i do and chuck up another DIY or edit my first one. im assuming there is a bulb or an led that can be replaced to brighten it then id probably be acetoning or sanding and polishing the amber cover till its clear but if you want to keep the amber just replace the backlight with a higher powered led.

Painted my stock steel rims and wheel nuts last week too, they were a bit rusty and old looking so thought they could do with quick respray. Just preped them with a wire brush to remove the rust then a quick wipe down with wax and grease remover followed by 3 light coats of Matte Black engine enamel.

Agree. SR3's are so much better over stock, I never thought they'd be that good, but Honda define them as 'semi-buckets'... well according to a Type R history video I have. They're never going to put full race seats in a production spec car like a Civic/Integra... For dedicated track cars something like the above makes more sense...

Put my dash back together after failing to change the amber clock to white. It doesnt have a replaceable bulb/led(that i could see) and the plastic cover is completely amber, cant polish it off. Its sort of annoying me having done a white led conversion but being stuck with an amber clock so i might look into moulding and casting a clear resin or plastic cover but i think that would cost to much, if anyone knows anything about casting clear resins/plastics let me know. Also Alvis if your still having a problem with a dull clock swing me a pm as i may be able to help, i noticed something while i was messing with mine.

Also fixed my Exhaust gasket leak, bought some of those n*power headers and the gasket that joins them blew out so i repaired it with some Ultra copper untill i can be bothered ordering another gasket. Bit annoyed that the hot exhaust gas has cooked some of my black header wrap white but i suppose i can always spray them black if it bothers me.

17-06-2011, 01:25 PM
CAI probably better, with a whale penis I would say unless you cover up an exposed air filter in the engine bay with a box or the like, you'll make your engine response/power worse

I had a fine day yesterday polishing and waxing my car (and my buddy's Mazda 3). The Adriatic Blue Pearl on my Civic was heavily oxidised, and had turned into a dull solid deep blue colour. As supercheap autos is having a sale, my buddy and I got the $30 rockwell polisher, and I used 2 coats of Meguiars ultimate compound on my car. The dirt, grime and oxidation was removed very well and the colour returned to a gleaming gel-like blue. Then put on a layer of Meguiars deep crystal polish (on sale for $19) for the glaze to really come out. Covered it with Turtle Wax super hard shell.

The roof's clearcoat failure was cut through very hard by the compound. It cut through the paint and spread it out over the white clearcoat patches and turned them into a light ash-blue colour. Topped that with one layer of polish, and 2 layers of turtle wax for weather proofing's sake. This morning the car was covered with tiny bubbles of dew drops all over, thanks to the wax. Previously without the protection, the dew wouldnt bead, and instead spread across the body and then evaporate through the day. I'm happy with the results from all the buffing, polishing and waxing.

Fyi, I bought the civic 3 weeks ago from a dealer for $4500 incl rego and rwc. It had clocked 169k in the odometer. The car has clearcoat failure on the roof, and the body throughout has a few dings and paint scratches. Until yesterday, the body had a lot of water stains, bug and tree sap, road grime, oxidation as well as bird poop damage, but the UC took care of all that!

Spoon lowering springs are great - can pick them up for not much more than $400 delivered. Good option if you can't afford coilovers all in one hit as per me. They work fine with stock shocks. Here's mine:

looks good mate - if you look closely enough you can see the difference.

Install was about $100 from a good friend. I was worried about ride comfort as well, but the ride isn't harsh at all. They're a progressive spring, so comfy around town (not squishy like it used to be bouncing around corners) and they firm up when you drive it with some spirit into some corners, so best of both worlds really. You wont' be disappointed and you know Spoon do their research...

I will eventually get new shocks, but what you would want to do first is get a Pedders check to see how everything is underbody and go from there. My shocks are still good to about 90,000kms (no leaks etc) so I'll change them up when I put a few more kays on the car... but perfect for now :)

Meguiars Plastx works quite well too if your not doing it by hand(use a DA, rotory or powerball), you dont need to use sandpaper with it if your only removing oxidized plastic so saves you a fair bit of time, only time i sand headlights is when they are deeply scratched or have damaged clearcoat.

Mmm... well from what I can find no 96-00 Aus spec Honda came with leather seats:
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?28672-EK-GLi-vs-CXi&

There was however a premium version for the Canadian market, which had the option of factory leather/heated seats. So, either your car is Canadian or they've been re-trimmed I'd say :)

Genuine Shift Boot Cover, Gear Knob and Hand Brake Cover on Plus installed some Cup Holders!

Put some new Rubber on my White BuddyClub P1 Wheels and mounted them. Had to put 10mm Spacers on the Rears aswell cause the rim was hitting the wishbone.
Dont have any photos yet cause my car is filth so no point in taking photos.

To come is install a light around the cup holder section cause its so freaking dark there at night and might invest in an EK9 Steering wheel.
I think ive made my Daily pretty nice haha :)

Changed rear engine mount and thermostat on my EK4

So it seems car wasn't really running a thermostat at all notice in pic thermostat was modified to allow coolant to flow constantly (eg they cut off the bottom bit) which is why my car took forever to warm up. But now with new thermostat installed I've got a problem. Car warms up fine, temp needle sits around the 50% mark and even when I drive it around it stays on the 50% mark but as soon as I hit VTEC the temp needle starts to surge all the way up nearly to the HOT bar!! :( and will only come back down when I stop booting it and drove normally for a min or so, I assume temp drop is due to thermostat finally opening. I know thermostat is working because bottom hose is warm, And I've also checked cooling fan works and comes on when it's supposed to.

Anyone have this problem before? Should I try a lower temp thermostat or is the problem elsewhere. Car never over heated before I changed from non existent thermostat to a CPC thermostat rated at 82 degrees C

^^^ did you bleed the cooling system of air after you changed your thermostat?

Yeah I did so its definitely not air in the cooling system,

Today I drove the car for about 15 mins changing gear well before 5500rpm (not going into VTEC) and not once did it show signs of overheating I thought hmmm maybe problem fixed it self over night

but at the end of the drive I hit VTEC in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears and surely temp gauge started rising all the way 2 bars from HOT! and would only go back down after i continued to drive normally for 2-3 mins

I'm stumped and lost for ideas, its as if the car heats up dramatically during VTEC and the thermostat isn't opening in time to allow the hot coolant in the engine to circulate back to the radiator.

This obviously wasn't a problem for the "constant flowing back yard modified" thermostat. Because before I changed it, I'd drive the car hard on VTEC and not have any signs of needle movement, this is because the hot coolant would constantly be cycled through the radiator which is why car took forever to warm up!

Its just regular spray can from bunnings. Just need to do 2-3 coats, which i guess is the norm when using a spray can. Plus its on steelies, so i didnt really need special paint for it. I could always do another layer if it fades. I put 4 layers on just to be black black.

Awesome job with your CAI too! Im sure te same paint you used for it should be alright for your steelies. But like i said, normal spray can can do the job for steelies.

thats a clean looking d series bay, nice work!
Thanks mate ive been using the d series to practice painting and hiding wires so i got some experience for when i do an engine swap later on down the track. Ive been enjoying working on the ek, great car for diy'ing.

Put my headers back on after waiting for a week and a bit for a gasket from the US. Blew out the gasket that joins the 2 piece headers together on a mountain run on mount Nebo.

Heres a pic of the block i used and the type of sandpaper, its abrasive emery cloth 100 grit, got it from bunnings and the sanding block was purchasched from super cheap auto.

Moar painting engine bits, this time im trying plastic, moved onto painting the timing cover and oil dip stick. Decided to hide some of the cables around the drivers side strut tower, will try and clean up the passenger side at some stage but its full of AC and PS lines so dont think i can move them too easily lol.

Thanks for the pic and advice, I'm very impressed and really really liking that brushed alloy look - much better than what the stock looks like - excellent looking engine bay too :)

Yeah Ek4 :) Um 190xxx on the clock, a little high, but it was well maintained, so should be pretty right. It's stock as a rock, which is good, at least i know some fan boy hasn't thrashed the Shit out of it xD

Probably due for a major service, so I guess just get everything checked out if the previous owner hadn't given it a 200k service.

Hey - also noticed you say you have a 95 EK4 - any pics you can show us?

95? i thought all ek's are 96 - 00, lol, or was that the build date?

Hmmmm its weird, cause mine was built in 07 at one of the USA honda plants, yet it was sold here with 1998 plates

Lol thanks mate ill put up a DIY tomorrow, need to take pics of the switch in the daylight. Its just a panel of leds hooked up so that when the head lights are on and the glove box is open then the glove box lights up, can have it hooked up so its on Accesory or constant if you like but i only use it when i have the lights on so this seemed like good way to do it :)
