Mods:
- K20 Oil pump
- Baffled sump
- 50' VTC
- RBC - Ported and honed to 70mm
- 70mm Throttle body
- Pod-on-a-pipe intake
- Toda headers
- 200cel cat
- 3' cat back
- Tuned by Adrian
Adrian did get it to 160kw, but there was some slight pinging, so he put it back to 156kw tune. This is the reason I get him to do ALL my tuning... because he tunes the car to be driven, not to make power.
Also, as you can see from the torque curve, it makes the same torque across the entire power band... so while you drive it, there is no major spike in power, just nice and smooth.

So much win right there mate, excellent work! I'd be so proud of that. Must be a lot of fun to drive.
How does it compare to the K20? And the what is it revving to, 7800 orso?

I am. And considering that I had a hand in part of the work, even if it was only cleaning parts, holding stuff or tightening bolts, I am proud of the fact that I can stand back, look at the car and say "I built that". It's very fun to drive. It's predictable, and you can put your foot down, in any gear, at any RPM, and it just pulls.
Comparing to the K20... The K20 didn't have anywhere near as much torque below 4k as the K24, and there was a big change in power delivery after 4k. The K24 just keeps pulling, it's really smooth. Yeah, rev limiter is set at 7800, but I try to shift at like 7500.

Awesome work man, love it. I think it deserves it's own thread! I want to see more!
There's no better feeling than doing the work yourself, that's for sure. It's satisfying as hell. I'm planning on doing this exact same swap except into an EG... Can only imagine how much fun it will be!
Keep it up mate, good to see it done and done properly

Thanks. Previously my best time was a 14.7 when the car was almost stock. So with this set up I would be hoping for a low 13... MPH would def be in the 120 region.
wow 156kw atw... thats crazy. very impressed with his tuning, he got just short of an extra 20kw over mine... :(
I always have Adrian do my tuning. He did say he was still learning the k24 and that when he gets back to Sydney, he was going tho be ringing a customer with a K24 he tuned to tell him he had learnt a bit with my car.

Good power but I doubt u would hit 120 mph down the quarter lol. That's almost 200kph u need atleast 250kw atw to hit that trap speed.

Im no expert alex but i think my power curve looks a bit more fatter due to a bit more down low (although he's probs making more power throughout the rev range anyway, just his power graph is much more peaky looking.)
And in terms of torque i'm making more down low but he's making more up top, mines a bit flatter looking too.

The late model k24 engines tend to make more power. Was that a AUTO motor or manual motor i supplied you?
We have a EP3 with k24 only difference is 2.5' exhaust and stock k24 oil pump and its making tad over 150kw atw. So adding k20 oil pump and 3' it should get close to the power you got out of your k24.

Looks like a good drive 45SET. Went for an hour drive myself yesterday around the tyres-rawson-walhalla area down here in the baw baw shire. Recorded 30 minutes of it, only for the camera app to freeze and corrupt the file when i got home -.-
Started to replace my drive shafts today... I use the term 'started' because it's a right C*nt of a job when everything is fused together from age. God bless the old VN crumbledore occupying the other half of my garage. Took a hammer or two to its quarter panels :D
Also, frak the screws holding the rotor in. Frak them with a 12mm drill bit, POS.

With the right tools its not a hard or long job at all. Use a heavy hammer for the ball joints, a long pole for leverage on the hub bolts, and an impact driver for the rotors!

25-11-2011, 11:10 PM
Aye, figured those ones out pretty quick. First time doing these, so the first shaft took longer due to learning. Second one [driver side] shaft just does not want to budge, got everything else off fine, much to my surprise.
edit: the impact driver just wrecked the heads on the screws, they're quite soft.

what do you mean by it doesnt want to move? If it doesnt want to come out of the gearbox, instead of prying it from one side, use two points to pry and it will pop out easier. Also make sure pry away from the seals

Towards the West of Brisbane its just Mt's, so taking up 2 hours of time isn't hard. I did stop at 2 look outs for 10-15 min to take in the sights and sounds... and to let the car cool down :P Cruising through a mt range in 5th, but still having enough torque to pull you up a hill is a funny feeling. I also LOVE the burbles my exhaust makes above 4.5k RPM.
Drive shafts can be a pain in the ass, but we had more trouble putting them back in rather them taking them out... but I can see how an older car would be harder.

Normally I go over Nebo, down Glorious, then out to Mt Mee.
I didn't find any issues. I didn't push it too hard as saw 4 cop cars from my place to the base (5 min drive). I want to go out to QR... notnleen on LakeSide just yet.

@GSI I'm running the clutch from the same seller you bought it from, I proberly wouldn't recommend it - buy from authorized dealers I.E Jdmyard, autobahn, supercheap, JDMaccessories can help on them to.
The one I'm using is feeling quite light and shudders when take off is lower then 1,500 rpm however this is properly due to being a stage 1 racing.
The clutch is fully worn in and is working/engaging just fine but something still tells me that price is way to low for others out there.

awesome clutch and fly combo. not hard to drive, but launches real quick!

That one posted on ebay is 4 panel, the genuine wink mirror has 5 panels, so just take note of that. I had one on my old EK, cost me about $80 from the states, it takes some time to get used to but really improves your vision by a lot.

today i disassembled the FITV, and blasted it, the IACV and the throttle body with carby cleaner, dried it all out, reassembled and threw it all back in. also made a new throttle body gasket.
the engine feels nicer up and down the rpm's and starts smoother now after cleaning everything out, but it still has that intermittent hunting idle issue when it gets hot (sometimes when cold but mostly in the heat). i've been over all the vacuum lines/injectors/manifold/brake booster/throttle/charcoal canister with carby cleaner many times to find no leaks and reset the ECU with no success. all i can think of after all this ruling stuff out, is either the new intake/manifold is messing with the tune, or it's the PCV valve, apparently when they have issues they can essentially be a vacuum leak in itself (read somewhere on hondatech). I replaced the PCV valve with a new fuelmiser one when i installed the S2 manifold and Injen CAI, and before i changed all that (during my build thread, doing gearbox and other things) it was ok so maybe I have a faulty one? :/

nah lowering on 15's wouldn't be more difficult, it just means that you will have less ground clearance with a minimal gap as opposed to the same size gap on a larger wheel. however this can be countered with a larger sidewall tyre.
on that subject, costco are selling and fitting bridgestone adrenaline RE002's at a bargain price man, so if you dont have a membership when the time comes you can come with me and my gf because she has a membership there. :)
the only difficulty with lowering springs is that it's crucial to pick the right one, keeping in mind that they are not adjustable, will sag lower with time, too low will blow your stock shocks, and when you go pretty low you want them to be reasonably solid to reduce your chances of bottoming out.
act_gooner
29-01-2012, 11:24 AM
WTF, Costco sell tyres too? Haha crazy. Yeah I know all the disadvantages of just going with springs, but might add shocks to the setup later on when I have more money. Everythings hypothetical atm.
How much is bargain price? I got some cheapy silverstone tyres on the front now and tbh there is hardly any difference to my old Adrenaline RE001's. You working today Tim? Gonna pick up some of that oil you were suggesting.

Learning to offset..

Recently lowered the teg about 2.5" and its sitting pretty nice at the front.. Only just a few mm from the inner guard and tag, could do with some 3-5mm spacers just to get it sitting out..
Whats the go with spacers, i know there illegal but i heard anything over 5mm needs bolt-ons otherwise there inst enough thread on the lugs? Also fairly dangerous?
I has time to even modify the guards slightly if spacers are not the go..

They do look alittle off putting, but needed cheap tires urgently. Tyre shops where i lived didn't have much in the way of smaller ones at the time.

Apart from the legality of spacers, even 5mm is reducing the amount of thread the nuts have to hold on to, to a dangerous level. The other reason is that you lose the centering spigot on the hub, unless they have been machined to include it (most unlikely), that engages with the centre hole of the wheel.
Longer studs are the best option with spacers that are machined to include that centering spigot (both to fit the one on the hub and to provide one on the outside for the wheel to fit onto)
Relying on the studs alone to centralise the wheel is not a good idea.

If you mean the rings (hub adapters) that are used to make up the difference between the centre holes in the mags and the hub centre spigot, no, they won't do it.

with any kind of spacers itll be wise to get the wheel studs extended (not to mention getting the right kind of spacers as hondapop mentioned earlier)
that is if you value your safety and others on the road

no I mean the ones that are like a new set of studs that bolt on the old ones with it's own metal hub. however I think they only come in larger offests like 25mm.
they can also be used as stud pattern converters.

Ah, those ones. I was aware of them as pattern/pitch adapter, but yeah, they'd have to be pretty thick to be strong enough to hold the stems of a new set of studs and bolt up to the existing hub. Never really considered them as much more than a dubious gimmick.

get away from me.
if you were thinking of getting them though, i'd go for function forms instead. better reviews and cheaper than Pro-S. ive got them on my daily EG, bit stiff for my liking but that's cos i'm used to king springs.
